BTW I haven't read the book in #14, it might be that the economist has just perverted what I write about, so read it with a discerning mind and caution....it is not yet available in this beautiful city I reside in...it might be available in the concrete jungles of the barbarians.... later

g'night all

Could we please stick to interacts on the movie?

I was taken a bit off guard but this film actually

made George W. look good!

On the other hand, the troubling part was that Cheech

and Chong appear to be tame in comparison to this duo.

Overall, Muslim stereotyping was also partially addressed.

And it was all done while pushing the envelope of

bad taste.

I Have been blocked by Chowk Staff from posting new ilogs or gallery items, when I go to write an ilog it takes me to the list of ilogs, a dead end. This is outrageous, I demand that my right as a member poster here be restored, my articles that were censored released and the section where ilogs are posted opened up for my gems, immediately

Three years after I have been writing these things on Chowk, and at least 8 years after I penned them in my published articles, this Economist merely repeats the same- good to note that people through various avenues are coming to the same logical conclusion:

Rogue Economics
Capitalism's New Reality
Loretta Napoleoni

Rogue Economics offers a fascinating view of how terribly wrong things have gone. Loretta Napoleoni's book is an alarm, warning us to wake up ...more
—John Perkins, author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

Description

Respected economist and syndicated journalist Loretta Napoleoni shows how he world is being reshaped by dark economic forces creating victims out of millions of ordinary people whose lives have become trapped inside a fantasy world of consumerism. The world has become overrun by organizations, both private and public, which have accumulated vast fortunes and enormous political influence by regulating, containing, and manipulating the market to their own advantage. From Eastern Europe’s booming sex trade industry to China’s “online sweatshops,” from al-Qaeda’s underwriters to America’s subprime mortgage lending scandal, Rogue Economics exposes the paradoxical economic connections of the new global marketplace.

Yesterday I heard her interview on the BBC World Service on my SW radio, she compared the discription to the Matrix- an analogy of global insitutional domination by the US elite that I have been using for a long time now.....

Re: # 3
BJ...

What a glorious day it would be - when every Amrikkan becomes familiar with Harold and Kumar!

Ans: If US people do not know what is India and Korea, it is their problem...Why you bother about it?

A popular joke...

A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: “Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?”

The survey was a huge failure.

The reason:

1. In Africa they didn’t know what ‘food’ meant
2. In India they didn’t know what ‘honest’ meant
3. In Europe they didn’t know what ’shortage’ meant
4. In China they didn’t know what ‘opinion’ meant
5. In the Middle East they didn’t know what ’solution’ meant
6. In South America they didn’t know what ‘please’ meant
7. In the USA they didn’t know what what ‘the rest of the world’ meant!!
The honesty part you can replace with Eeastern Europe and Russia also. They are equally corrupt like us.

The root cause of the suffering of the US masses and the enrichment of its elite is a militarized political economy- the fallout can easily be blamed on the immigrants and xenophobia and fear easily fills in just like it fuels militarism

ranjit writes "Otherwise we will simply be reacting to the symptoms without understanding the root cause. "

The US elite borrow on behalf of the US public to fill the coffers of the ultra rich, achieving thereby a gini index showing near complete inequality. The militarism keeps the US afloat as a competing front to government expenditure through social services. It is either one or the other and the elite have preferred militarism because it is more profitable for them and helps the ultra rich while keeping the people afloat. The US govt spend more discretionary funds on the military/defense than its spending on all other areas COMBINED. What the US needs is taxing the rich to finance social services and redistribution to the poor, and achieveing an equitable distribution of wealth and income. That wont happen because the government in the US does not decide in favor of the common man unless the very existance of the system is threatened and even then post WW2 they have preferred to start wars, which are not started for the heck of it or for particular end related to the military campaign, rather continuity is sought, wars for the sake of wars

can't wait for the DVD..movie's already made money..

"Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay," the goofy stoner flick that opened at No. 2 with $14.6 million.

The success of the first "Harold & Kumar" sequel also showed audiences are not too sensitive to laugh at post-Sept. 11 topics like terrorism. The movie premise begins with the pair getting in trouble trying to sneak a bong on a flight to Amsterdam, then escaping the U.S.-run prison for alleged terrorists in Cuba.

"I don't think anybody takes this too seriously," said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.' president of theatrical distribution.

The sequel cost just $12 million to make and is already close to beating the entire theatrical take of $18.2 million for the first "Harold & Kumar" movie.

"Hopefully we'll do somewhere in the $40 million range," Fellman said.

THanks mr. Ranjit. I will check numbers assuming some assumptrions. Trillions may be over inflated. But I will work numbers. Thanks for your response

Madani sahab,

Your idea has merit. The problem is that the US government is broke with huge budget deficits and long term debt. It is in this situation thanks to the stupid war in Iraq and other miscalculations in the past several years. They are borrowing from foreign lenders like the Chinese to keep day to day operations going. How are they going to afford buying equity in so many houses in the country? It will require a trillion dollars of borrowing which is infeasible. Even if they manage to borrow somehow, can you imagine its impact on interest rates and US currency?

The proper solution to this situation is that US needs to pull out of Iraq and shift the military expenditure to the civilian sector in terms of building the infrastructure (road, bridges, tunnels) which is crumbling. That will create local jobs that cant be outsourced and result in a superior infrastructure that will boost up the economy. Secondly they need to seriously curtail the healthcare costs which are just killing the economy, especially since the US has a aging population of the baby boomers. So radical changes are necessary to dramatically lower healthcare costs, most of which are artificially inflated - it costs $100,000 for a heart surgery, which is ridiculous by any standards. Thirdly, there is a huge need to save manufacturing jobs in the US by providing better tax incentives and providing good education/training to the people. No country can have a good economy if it doesnt produce stuff. If these steps are taken, the housing, credit and other issues will take care of themselves. Otherwise we will simply be reacting to the symptoms without understanding the root cause.

Re: # Mr. Ranjit and others who have understanding of economics and housing. I have request to give your comments.

Usa economy is locomotive of world economy. Shadow of American slow down is affecting all nations and poor people globally. I thought USAG (USA Govt) can help the people having loans on their houses property to some extent by owning some part of house.
Several million houses owners can not afford high payments as interests adjust up.
It is noted by numbers about 95% house owners can be helped if about 15% equity burden is reduced. USAG can borrow huge money and lend it to these people in distress without paying them but to loan holders. NO MONEY SHOULD BE GIVEN FREE.USAG can hold as their equity in those houses. It will help to stabilize housing market and hopefully give jolt to American spending and world economy. When prices start rising as going inflation will help greatly in few years when these owners sell houses USAG can collect its dues along with interest
.Most House owners will find it beneficial and will be grateful. Those who do not want to give due share back to USAG should not be helped in fairness. Same way banks can be helped like city bank (shoukat aziz fame) be given capital to recover and then own their some % of stock and ownership. When GOVT puts money it should help people and banks but then USAG should get back share after recovery. In next 18 years at present inflation rates at 4% the house prices will double without real "appreciation". This can be good way to help and without making irresponsible.
Something USAG needs to help all world economies. Why USAG does not do similar thinmgs to help world. ( there must be valid reasons I am sure).
It intrigues me. Hopefully real IIT MBAs and good grads like mba lahore type reply. It will be very helpful to all people in world. wHY usag NOT TAKING LEADS WHAT ARE DANGERS ? tHANKS
Please do not respond to nobodies kindly and waste your time. You can not teach some people , they are beyond hope.
Good day everybody

[part of the mainstream, fitting right in with the hormonally challenged, who are often not just mowing their grass but indulging in other varieties of its use.]

I have always felt that underneath every Amrikkan cowbody, there is a vegetarian yearning to breathe free!

Ras sahib, you seem to have missed a golden opportunity here.

You could have given this movie a twenty finger thumbs-up!

You could have urged the vast chowk masses to go see it.

Just imagine, what a great thing it would be if this movie became a major hit!

Everyone going to see it.

Major recognition for the two actors - until those become household names!

What a glorious day it would be - when every Amrikkan becomes familiar with Harold and Kumar!

Who would NOT like it if Harold and Kumar were to become well-known?!

Or, at least one of the two did!
