Re: # 52; tahmed sahib

what I said was based on many population based studies; all well authenticated

the sex thing was an innocent joke only directed at you; the moment, as it happens, is long gone

dr cheema #40: i think cobra (#43) has already answered your question.

Let me add to that: after you have had sex, you dont trouble speaking clearly, or thinking clearly. You dont start driving from one edge of the road to the other after having sex either. Hope this clarifies.

As a doctor, you should not be making scientifically absurd remarks like "it has been proven that drinking makes you live longer" e.g. while the french and italians live longer and they are also wine drinkers, as anyone familiar with statistics will tell you this does not establish a causative relationship. And indeed, while the alcohol industry will never points to this, contrary examples are provided by the high mortality among the heavy-drinking russian men.

The ill-effects of alcohol are not just short-run (e.g. the above-mentioned slurred tongue, inability to walk straight, as well as the mind going bonkers providing pathbreaking scientific insights of the kind Hamidm was providing) - you dont need to be a doctor to know about the serious damage to the liver over time. And the social ill-effects (spouse abuse, ruined careers) are serious too (in russia, alcoholism is considered a major cause of its poor economic performance).

So - dont encourage people like Hamidm to continue their self-destructive habits that provide them with immediate gratification at the cost of their own well-being and of their wives and children. Leave that to the multi-billion dollar wine industry - which, like the cigarette industry that has sent millions of people to an early and painful death, is perfectly capable of marketing gimmicks like the "Marlboro Man" (who, btw, died of lung cancer himself!!). You, as a doctor, need to be more responsible than the drug-lords of the alcohol industry.

Re: # 47; nkg sahib,

yes you have a point there. in moderation, alcohol (especially 2-3 units of red wine) a day is shown to increase lifespan and prevent coronary heart disease.

saying that, it is all about being sensible. i hate 'drunkenness' myself....a few drinks with mates without getting out of control is not altogether a bad idea...each their own.... as they say

Re: # 7
Kulharee...
"Hamid Saab, would you rather get a buzz on Colt45 here or wait for the most exquisite single malt Scotch in the afterlife? Would you rather be intimate with a few here, or wait for 72 most gorgeous chicks in the afterlife? The choice is yours. I would rather wait. Fruit of patience is very sweet."

Ans: Are you sure, there is any such fruit?
You only get one life. Enjoy it as much as possible without harming nature or anybody....

" I feel ALCOHOL SHOULD be FORBIDDEN to all it is poison worst than cobras bite."

Ans: This is seer stupidity. Alcohol is used in medicine. Please enlighten me about the harmful effect of alcohol?

Re: # 45;Madani sahib,

I have been rude and not said thank you for the two bandishes in Maru Bihag you sent me; enjoyed it thoroughly sir.

The first (shorter) one had a beautiful ‘humming’ of ?sitar in the background; sounded very similar to the didgeridoo but less overpowering on the whole; went very well with the ‘utaar char-hao’ of the voice of the artist and the tabla. The second (longer) was even more captivating. The sitar was just divine and provided a very complimentary background to a beautiful voice, especially towards the end. The tabalchi kept up well too. All beautifully put together; I am grateful you thought about me sir.
You also asked me about Cymbalta; it has nothing to do with India, to my knowledge. Its active ingredient is Duloxetine, an SNRI (Serotonin and Noradrenaline Re-uptake Inhibitor); Serotonin and Noradrenaline are normally secreted at nerver terminals in the brain; body ‘recycle’ them in a way so there is just the right amount. When there is less than that amount, one can be depressed. SNRI drugs stop the body from degrading these chemicals, hence creating an abundance; this causes the opposite of depression – mood elevation, that is. Generally well tolerated; long list of side effects but in majority of people very few, if any. As a group these drugs are quite safe, although I am a surgeon so will ask around amongst my general practice colleagues.

Thanks again; I have sent this also to you as a PM.

Re: # 37 Thanks for saying good words. Some time we feel like left out discards back home and we know we are not fools but still that slavery in our makes us feel well to react with people who have achieved some thing.

With best wishes for all and good day.

Is 2.5 billion enough for you. Life has been procreating for last two billion plus years, according to modern science.

Cobra yaar, men must have been drinking for about the same period too, don't you think?
