Pavo...
"Charas was Halal in any case..."

Alcohol is prohibited and canabis is allowed!!! Canabis have direct pshyco/neuro effects and can damage nervous system permanently. Alcohol, specially after food, is quite good....

masadi: What would I do without you to guide me, O Moses Masadi!!

And yea, O Moses, thou speakest the truth about the devil who would lead men astray..why, only yesterday mephistopheles, appeared in his red tights, eyes burning like coal, and told me I could see the Great White Goddess Helen of Troy in return for taking possession of my soul for all eternity.

This seemed like a good deal to me, so I signed up. And I must say that little bastard kept his side of the bargain, and in no time I was face to face with..the Great White Goddess Herself!!

I started worshipping her right there and then, murmuring the sacred words:

Was this the face that launch'd a thousand ships,
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium?
Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss.
Her lips suck forth my soul: see, where it flies!
Come, Helen, come, give me my soul again.
Here will I dwell, for heaven is in these lips,
And all is dross that is not Helena.
I will be Paris, and for love of thee,
Instead of Troy, shall Wittenberg be sack'd;
And I will combat with weak Menelaus,
And wear thy colours on my plumed crest;
Yea, I will wound Achilles in the heel,
And then return to Helen for a kiss.
O, thou art fairer than the evening air
Clad in the beauty of a thousand stars;
Brighter art thou than flaming Jupiter
When he appear'd to hapless Semele;
More lovely than the monarch of the sky
In wanton Arethusa's azur'd arms;
And none but thou shalt be my paramour!

g'night

p.s tahmed: look deep into your own soul and see what you have become by unconditionally worshipping the white man and selling your soul to the devil....yeah think about it and you can thank me later for reminding you to do so....

hamid writes ".... thanks for revealing the hypocrisy of the afghans...."

No hypocrisy can top the foreign policy hypocrisy of the US elite, the "freedom and democracy" pushers....

hamid, sage of the sewer rats writes ".... you fool! ... the man has been living in kabul for many years"

You have been living in the US for longer than he has been living in Kabul, yet your caricature of the US public and US society is far removed from the reality that social surveys and statistics reveal. His caricature is based on "whim (and self) guided mega over generalization", all santized by another mega generalization to top the first one by claiming that its only "human"- meaning "globe over" all through history past, present and future.....now do you see what a goddamned absurd post he made?

pavocavalry: #88 I was going to point out to you what masadi has already pointed out - that "womanizing" and seeking other bodily pleasures is certainly part of being human, but it is the animal part of of being human.

You need to at some point to focus on the other part - namely, what differentiates humans from other animals - namely, the ability to think rationally. Until someone does that, he remains not part-animal, but complete animal.

Pavo writes "to add further the average afghan likes to drink and to womanaise .its human ..."

A totally ignorant comment. First you have no clue what the "average afghan writes", you haven't picked a random sample and then asked them about their likes and dislikes. You have just witnessed and talked to a few that happened to run into you and generalized in a most unscientific manner from that. Further to drink and womanize, in other words to maximize your pleasure (instinct) without concern for consequences is not "human", it might befit an animal who is further retarded. Humans are unique in self reflection, coming up with social norms and values and channeling their desires through them to produce uniformity and organization. The brain moreso than the di** defines what is "human"...idiot

Army apologist Leadenwinter writes "The very word "alcohol" is derived from Arabic, as it was Abassid muslims, (the scientist Jabir ibn Hayyaan) who actually invented the distillation of ethanol fit for human consumption.... the word "khamer" as mentioned in the quran was held to strictly refer only to fermented grapes Part of the circumstances which led to such discovery was was because the word "khamer" as mentioned in the quran was held to strictly refer only to fermented grapes rather than any other beverage."

A most absurd rationalization trying to legitimize the use of synthetically produced intoxicants by refering to the Quran. The origin of the word Khamr is khamara which means to conceal or cover, and refers to intoxicants that cover or block (Sakara) the senses. It does not only refer to grape (and date based which he doesn't know also existed at the time) wine but to all varieties including synthetically produced intoxicants, further the origin of the word Alcohol, even though it is Arabic had nothing to do with the connection this person is fictitiously coming up with, Alcohol was mostly used for medicinal purposes in medieval Arab society when produced through the distillation process .

Now, as the Quran clearly states its harms are much worse than its benefits and that is what we find both biologically for the individual and socially for a society.
Here is an old article http://alcohol.rationalreality.com

Just because you cannot control your desire for escape does not mean you should try to legitimize your own weakness and then drug dependency and addiction through the Quran. Your example of "Muslims have used it througout history" is also quite pathetic, since the largest numbers of alcohol avoiders in the world also happen to be Muslim. If drugs like Cocaine, heroin etc were legalized today and started selling on every newsstand, their consumption would definitely go up, and in the case of alcohol so would the assorted problems associated with this substance which includes as part and parcel of its nature, substance abuse given its addictive nature...

Dear Naeem Randhawa

By your own admission its clear you were the odd one out, while others were enjoying each others civil company there you were smug and disrespectful of their right to enjoy.

to add further the average afghan likes to drink and to womanaise .its human . even some talibs i know personally and who were my sub contractors on USAID projects in Helmand and Ghazni did not mind a drink.Charas was Halal in any case.Its Afghanistan's national past time.I must add that in last four years 95 % of guys i had hard drinks with were afghans.they said their prayers also and were not rich but also drank their alchohol.mind you i am living in Afghan area and walking on the street.i was never confined to any compound with rules and curfew regulations.also it is interesting to note that no khalqi or parchami minister of 1978-2002 has any dirty money as the so called mujahids have.drinking has little connection with honesty.

i have lived in kabul since 2004.not in a compoun but in a house near shahr e nau.i have found that most afghans like to drink.if they cannot afford foreign stuff they buy industrial alchohol called navazh do shash manufactured in state run factory on jalalabad road . a half litre bottle was 100 afghanis in 2006.This 96 % is heavily diluted and can last for two days to a week if heavily diluted.In 2007 after furor raised by jihadis in parliament the factory was closed .many afghans make desi sharab called " Wattani" in farsi.In police nearly 45 to 50 % people drink.charas is a favourite one and very cheap.US Army and NATO forces are not allowed hard liquor but only beer and wine but they do manage it.Supreme the duty free shop offering very reasonable alchohol rates was banned for most countries excluding some diplomats in October 2006 after propaganda by talibs/hikmatyar for all countries except some diplomats.
I found the pakistanis generally unadventurous not going out of compiunds.But in 2004-2005 i did have some american friends who ventured out defying the curfew and went everywhere.now in 2008 generally most foreigners are paranoid and not leaving their compounds.off course i do not live in any compound as i have my own company.
