Most Injuns (except maybe Kashmiri Pandits) are a very heavily mixed lot and it wud be difficult to put anyone as definitely one race or the other.

However, when someone says "...I consider Partition to be a mistake as well...", it may imply that the person may regard the identity is outcome of a mistake. A kind of identity conflict Zeena may have encountered, more than discrimination, and feels, and takes it more seriously. Many presumably like, you and certainly I have a different approach to such a conflict.

As far as I am concern parition is completely an non-issue something happened before I was born. It has no consequence in Today's India, and should be so in today's Pakistan too. Something Zeena implies.

I'm not going to dwell on the past here. Too many of us like to do that. It is done, it is a fact. I belong to Pakistan, and now America, and dwelling on what Jinnah did or did not do, or Gandhi did or did not do, is rather pointless. Life is not long enough to dwell on things that we had no control over.

I do not agree with Zeena making genetic - when it is not well understood - traits as a basis of identity.

Making religion as a basis of identity is quite redundant in my view, because religions only value is withing the confines of a persons mindspace (not even outside in the entire personal space). Zeena is a doctor and athelete - as I understand from here - these too are her identities. I do not know what she gets by insisting genetic traits as her identity.

More identities the better as I see, as they may not dominate then and probably indicates attainment or success. Although, it is important to have an identity, without an identity it is difficult to imagine what a person would be.

I do not know what Zeena's reasons are "not Indian", "not desi", etc. as basis for anyone's identity. I never thought "Not ..... " can be an indentity.

I consider Partition to be a mistake as well. But for better or for worse, I am wedded to my identity as a Pakistani, and I am sorry but I no longer read posts which vilify Pakistan and the Jinnah. It helps my shelf life here at Chowk not to do that.

Those comments aside, it just conveniently slips simple people's minds that there is something of a racist chauvinist nature in certain remarks. You seem to defend Zeena, majumdar, in her portrayal of blacks. It is ironic, no doubt your defense of her against someone trying to obliterate a country's identity, while you defend her racist remarks. What is this if not an attempt to obliterate a group's identity?

Please read Beej bhaiyya and his likes carefully. He considers the process under which Pakistan was created as illegitimate, he considers Pakistan a mistake, he abuses MAJ (pbuh) day in day out as a vampire. What is this if not an attempt to obliterate a country's indentity.
