Really moving piece. And I loved the way you tied it up too. Your observations and conclusions struck a chord with me.

Re: # 7
I think dance has two dimensions
1) expression of human desires in a permissible manner
2) provision of an escape valve for pent up energies
Both can decrease violence in the society. First by providing a form of expression for desires which will find expression in one form or the other, dance provides an expression which otherwise will find ways in socially unacceptable ways. Second it channelises human energy into an enjoyable and harmless form, instead of violence.

I completely agree with your observation regarding the last para. Due you think that if I had properly built up the arguments for the last para and produced a sense of continuity, it would have been all right

Any physical activity which involves rhythmatic movement of hands and legs (may be part of sports or art) is good for mental health.

Is dance WITHOUT subtle carnal desire therapeutic for dimminishing agression .....Kathak martial arts dance etc You dont think so.Theek
Carnal desire is basic instinct without which everbody can be frustrated
I am all for all form of dancing but plz dont make a surrogate for the real thing .This is the very intent that scares the non dancers when asked for a dance !

the last paragraph needs to be refined. There was a dissonance between this paragraph and the the ones above this.
Otherwise a great piece...

Tariq sahib,
will you please ignore my previous pir Naqshbandi? My new pir, Maulana Toofani urf Mullah Toofani will soon grace us with his presence and will agree with your article.
Until then, I can say that as I read your article, several emotions and thoughts bubbled up. Your article reminds us our feeling of invincibility at a young age, of how a gentle reaching out to another human being can leave a lasting impression. And finally, about dance. Indeed, dance can often unite the body, mind, and soul.
Thank you for this article.
Warm regards

A very good article until the last paragraph when it descended in typical fashion into hystericd, thinly disguised disgust at Muslim societies and trashy psychobabble.
Still, the first 3/4 of the article was good. Hope you get better from your partial paralysis.

Hope you recover Tariq sahib and 'get down on it' dancing the 'bhangra'--a vigorous folk dance!
