I dont get this, doesn't really make any sense.
I've come across this musician and her videos before, no offence but her videos/songs are vile and in bad taste. She has an 'Indian' name, I thought she was Indian.
She says she has never been to Pakistan, yet she is playing up the ''Pakistani'' identity.
She made some video with a ''grating on the ears'' sound, and in the video she flits through a variety of costumes, from writhing around in a bikini to a a full on black burqah which conveniently is raised up a ''little'' from the ankles to uncover her tanned, toned legs (a la marylin monroe in the seven year itch).
Pakistani females can be successful and taken seriously (wll if she really IS pakistani!) she just needs to respect the pakistani culture a little and maybe we'd respect her as a musician.
It's like its ok to be whatever when its all going well, but things screw up ''oh its Pakistan's fault'!
Give us a break!
I'd reaily support her if she could ACTUALLY sing. Sad truth is she cant.

Not that I am a fan of hers, I think she has finally come to regret the gimmicks she had played to get to success (if she ever was successful). My question is that when she is trying to make a comeback into the music scene (cleanly) yet again with the new album Ataraxis featuring songs like Jogi (http://www.imeem.com/deeyahmusic/music/nu3tHAsA/deeyah_jogi_clip_featuring_bob_ james_nils_petter_molvaer/), can we really call her a Pakistani star.
SupersizeMe: Yes, she is a Pakistani. The name was chosen by a nanny of hers who was a Hindu and helped her mother through pregnancy. She later died, but the name Deepika stuck. Why is that whenever people hear or see something their minds can not associate with Pakistan, we tend to find excuses to link it to others. My name is Arun, I am not a Hindu or an Indian but am a Pakistani (perhaps why I chose to write this article).
Kaptain: I was hoping NFP would comment here. I am new to writing music-related stuff. It would have been good, if he'd reviewed this.

She has performed with Pt. Siv Kumar Sharma!!!!!
At night, just before sleeping, listen to Pt. Siv Kumar Sharma/Hari Prasad Chowrasia/Ravi Shankar...definitely you will get nice dream...It's like fragrance from blooming lotus (early morning), very mild but sweet...

This is exactly what I wanted to express here. Every one has seen her hip-hop jhutka and mutkas but we fail to recognise the true star. And I admit if she sings back to the ragas and show less skin she would be accepted.

The first rule of Dhimmitude is to show gratitude towards muslims for turning you into a dhimmi (and not killing you!!).

Arun dear,
"Pakistan, a country she says is "her blood"."
Well how about shedding a few tears on Clifton beach and donating some blood on her next trip to the Motherland?
Ah, the pangs these foreign-items feel!
