Here is a classic example what could work in any other country will not work in pakistan. Giving away energy efficient bolbs will not make any difference to the paki electricty peak demand.
In pakistan 30 percent of teh elcetricity is stolen, they have a word for it, Kunda connections. In some parts of karachi, the theft is as high as 60 percent. For tehse people who do not pay for electricity have no incentive to reduce consumption. With teh gas and kerocence prices going, which cannot be stolen like electriocity, the demand will only increase.
With 30 percent stolen, there is no way that electricty generation in pakiland can be economically viable. The few will have to pay for the theft, and with hight tariffs, incetives for theft increases.
This is a viscious cycle for pakistan, in a country where murder ios not a crime per the book....let me check what teh book says about e;lectricity theft...well electricty is not mentioned in the book, it is not stolen with hand..cannot even chop the hand off.

KARACHI, July 4: A large contingent of the police assisted by the Rangers moved into strife-torn Lyari on Friday evening in an effort to establish the lost writ of the government in the locality.
The gang war between the groups of Rehman Dakait and Arshad Pappu has been raging in the area for years and has cost hundreds of lives. Scores of innocent passers-by and bystanders have been caught in the crossfire between the warring criminal gangs. Subsequently, several parts of Lyari have virtually turned into no-go areas.
///////////////////
If parts of a major city like Karachi are no go zones for teh police, why should any one pay for electricity...just asking

A perfect case of lack of planning and politicizing the issues.
We have got such a precious resource in the form of glaciers, mountain streams and fast flowing hilly rivers. The terrain is particularly suited to build economical reservoirs and derive the static heads to run the turbines. It is only recently that WAPDA has resorted to various small-scale projects in the northern areas when the demand supply gap is rapidly expanding.
The adhoc policies and the culture of working for short term personal gains have brought us to a point of no return. With the gas reservoirs depleting, SNGPL and SSGPL under immense pressure, oil prices increasing and no initiatives as far as renewable energy is concerned, we can only expect the things to go worse when we are predicting a double digit increase in the demand of energy per anum.

Helping Pakistan - new tourist opportunities
Ahmadmadani,
Here is a good idea you can take to the paki politicians.
The distruction of the only ski resort in pakistan and the talibanisation of swat valley has many a pakistanis upset and dispapponted about teh tourism future of pakistan.
Hidden in the bad bews, not many noticed is a very good news.
Taliban in peshawar publically executed two alleged american spies and there was a crowd of tenthousand to watch this. Pakistan being an isalmic country what the taliban did is per the book, and one should not forget that in the good old taliban days, soccer stadiums in kabul ised to be full to watch such killings.
Now that the taliban are in power in NWFP, pakistan can promote this as a majoe tourist attraction.
More than a decade ago, when I visitied suadi, my host offered me a trip to the main mosque there on a friday to watch the killings, which I refused. But in those days, teh front rows are reserved for the elites of saudi and now I understand that the saudis have stopped thsi practice.
As a true islamic country of teh TNT variety, it is time that pakistan shows of its islamic credentials and make the islamic killings a major tourist attaction.

Again, in NWFP its not Talibans governament. Its ANP/PPP governament, both of which follow socialist philosphy. Second, its the stinky Indians who are playing there dirty games otherwise Taliban have refused any incident since May. Bottom line is Indians do smell like rats and dogs. Oh I forgot they also worship them too and get guidance how to stink from their favorite snake.

mkamd,
What are you telling, do you mean that there was no public beheading two weeks ago???
At times, even for paki it is good to accept the truth. What does the book say about truth...well there is no truth other than what is written in teh book. Well now I can understand you, it is not in the book, so it did not happen.

Again get your information correct rather than just jump on every news you hear on cable news. There are several small groups which have emerged in last 2 years. They are doing this disturbance. Nobody knows who is doing their funding and how they became popular in 2 years. They are misguiding illiterate and innocent crowds with emotional blackmailing and fear tactics. These people think that whatever they are told is according to Islam. On the other hand whatever they are doing in tribal area is not even close to Islam.

By the way, some nergy saver bulbs emit above normal levels of gamma radiation that can cause burns and cancers. So be aware.
