Viewer sahib,

All of my imprints from memory of being treated as a 3rd class citizen come from Pakistan.

Are you a Mirzaee by any chance?

Regards

Re: # 74

I agree.

Dawa-i-Dil's argument using wording of "prejudice, looks, 3rd class citizen" carry no weight or value.

All of my imprints from memory of being treated as a 3rd class citizen come from Pakistan.

Re: # 72; dawa behen

there is a multitude of reasons for 'migration' of people ... it is an ever present phenomenon throughout the known history of man ... a lot of misconceptions I am afraid!

Re:
I have great respect for you if you really have these nationalistic feelings.

My story, unfortunately, tells me something else.

Though now living abroad for about a decade, I, perhaps luckily, never felt being treated as a "3rd Class Citizens."

However, unfortunately, I certainly remember being treated as a "3rd Class Citizens" a few times in my own home country: Pakistan.

The first time I had such a feeling was when I have to encounter a lady education councelor at the American Education Centre in Islamabad. I certainly remember her face and would like to slap her if I have another encounter.

The second time it happened when I went for lunch at the mess at my workplace in Pakistan and a man in khaki standing outside told me to leave as some General sahib is going to have lunch on that day. His eyes said "civilian bast*** to be out."

Re: # 60

We have financial problems , but who will make up all this mess, some Mars creature no, we Pakistanis. If we start running from the country, it will be a coward act of leaving the battle ground as only courage less people run bbut courageous stay and face the difficulties. Financial crisi is even severe in US Europe today so running will not do something miraculous.

BTW, despite of all haardships, honour and dignity is not ruined as it is on J F Kanady or Heathrow, being naked, checking mobile history , calls, asking about any religious scripture carrying, and detain at airports for 5 5 hours. Racial looks, remarks, prejudice and above all living as 3rd Class citizens. My salam to such life !

Please have a look at "Dr Asim Hussain, new HEC chairman": www.interface.edu.pk/students/Oct-08/HEC-new-chairman.asp

Can someone try to find if this man (Dr Asim Hussain) has a PhD? Because of his coming from the profession of medicine, it is common in this area that people having MRCP, FRCS, FCPS etc may also be appointed as the chancellor of a medical university, which is a post he occupies presently.

Will it be fine and justified for thousands of PhD candidates sent abroad by HEC for their PhDs that this person is appointed as the new HEC chairman, who may not have a PhD himself?

One may then argue that if in a previous tenure PPP can install Jehangir Baddar as the Federal Minister of Science & Technology, who in his earlier career used to be an ex meter reader for electricity, then in its present tenure PPP can appoint any man from street an the new HEC chairman.

"Dawa behen, Never mind your detractors. We want to read more on Pakistani Muslim scientists. Pls post."

Re:

Oh, indeed, Dawa behen please post as much as you like about Great Pakistani Muslim Scientists, living as well as dead.

Contrary to the impression conveyed by Majumdar, I also enjoy reading such accounts of geatness as they provide ground for good entainment & laughter that I direly need after a heavy lunch. Please go ahead with your sincere efforts.

Ahmedmadani in post #59 writes:

"Our high education has no hope as professors at most prestigeous univ carrying name of QAMA Jinnah find all time to produce all "political essays" here on regular basis"

Re:

Forget about "Higher Education", in fact even our "General Education" has NO HOPE because such and such BRIGADIER (no to mention the name) gets installed by military for his life time as the head of an academic institution.

Not the generals in GHQ, nor this BRIGADIER knows that his appointment is doing the greatest damage to education in this country.

When a professor, who has sound integrity, comes along and starts talking about this corruption in academics, he is quickly blamed of having been contributing only "political essays."

Have you got enough IQ to understand even the titles of Hoodbhoy's technical writings?

If you think you have, please make a survey in some chronicle of physics research before coming up with your non-sensical comments.

in #56 dawa-i-dil writes:

"This is just of 10 months of 2008 , only of SSE , not of IT and Manegement , there are alot of papers there also
http://sse.lums.edu.pk/facultyresearch.htm"

I wonder and ask what might be the real objectives of this much bombardment of information, combined with a lot appearing on web, about the SSE and its faculty members.

Is it to gain quick respect and reputation for this new research school opened in Lahore? I am afraid, this much bombardment is only going to damage SSE's reputation. After all, any genuine reputation and respect (on the international scene) can only be gained by hard work and via a painful process.

Can one of the memebers at the SSE come up to justify, on some rational ground, this cheap and quick way of gaining some attention? I argue that this strategy can do more damage than good.

However, in case someone thinks that this is the best and only way to impress fellow Pakistanis about the recent huge research achievements of SSE then I don't have else to say.
