"Man, the last time I checked myself I found out that I am a male by birth!...:"
How much relieved am I!! You, with your vitriolic tongue, being a female would have destroyed my concept about women.

Jap-pee-in-the-pants,
I never worry about your women bent upon taking off everything on screen. Pakistan can never equal India in this Kamasutra way of life anyway.
It is your folks who need some 'hijab', some 'sharam'; but then satan's models don't care about virtue.
Mind the gap now before you get run over by an Indain Railways' engine.

Re #56, 57, I think there is some veiled logical philosophical explanation of this Purdah for women in Islam. The reason the piousness is stressed as a result of Purdah is perhaps a Purdah is meant to be a repulsive infectious disease from which every man would like to stay away.

What an iditic inerpretation of Islam! Does the writer of the letter in questioin means that it is permissible in Islam to harrass the women which one does not consider to be noble?

Questions about rights of women
THIS is apropos of Raqim Haque’s letter, “Women’s rights (Dec 23), in which he says our religion asks our womenfolk to cover themselves when they go out of their homes so that they may be recognised as noble women and not be harassed.
Does Mr Haque wish to imply that women who do not cover themselves properly are not noble? Women in the West do not cover themselves properly but are never harassed on the streets, firstly because of the stringent laws and, secondly, because for the western men it is not a big deal to watch women not fully covered.
On the other hand, in Muslim countries like Pakistan women are harassed on the streets even if they are clad in burqa.
//////////////////
the above is a dawn letter to editor of today.
IN PAKISTAN WOMEN ARE HARASSED EVEN WHEN CLAD IN BURQA???
what a country to live in?

The silver lining in these clouds of doom is that they have exposed their true colours. As a nation there is an increasing consensus that we need leaders who restore the self-respect and identity of our country. Thus it just maybe the end of despair and the beginning of hope that we will choose leaders whose values and character are based on substance and not mere style; whose actions speak louder than words; and who have the vision and passion to restore the dignity and sanctity of the country.
from dawn of today.
yes pakistan needs a new leader, another military man is the right choice.

A courageous writing indeed as writing truthfully in Pakistan is a crime, and a serious security risk.
I wonder why not these Jamaat/Lashkar 'mujaheddin' go to Israel which is massacring Muslims of Gaza these days.

Re: # 52Just as it is a fact that Pakistan is not a nation populated only by jihadis, India too is not a nation where the saffron clads are running amok everywhere.Yet it suits the media and political powers to project these images of the other country.Hysteria and hate is easy to stoke in the face of such a uni dimensional picture.

Bhatti Sahib:
Very well written.
While you addressed it only to fellow Pakistanis, in my opinion it is a must that voices like yours need to be heard on the Indian side of the border too, especially at times like these.
When there is justifiably a lot of anger in the public, and with media trying to feast on war hysteria, it helps remind Indians that Pakistan does not consist solely of loony jihadis. And that India must choose a response that does not involve weakening the position of those Pakistanis who do speak out today against those loonies.
In your own opinion, what is/would have been the right response from the GOI to this incident?

#42, NO you miserable moron okhla, no more playing the US game of genocide and barbarism. We will not fight our people, we will not follow the US line and we will call a farce a farce as is the GWOT. The people who need to be expunged from Pakistan are shallow Western stooges like you, the rest of the citizens need to be given ak-47s that will be paid for by selling the lands and tanks possessed by the Pakistan Army, before we tell India and the imperialists to "bring it on". Now go to hell

You have managed to raise the issue that no one seems willing to address....ÿes those causing mayhem in Pakistan and in Mumbai may be non state actors but who created them? Clever juggling of words is unlikely to get Pakistan off the international hook.Nor will it help Pakistan address its internal problems honestly.

jayp, yes i know a war is inevitable...is there a timeline?

Re: # 44
A war with pakistan is inevitable as the world will not be able to live with the pakistn of today. There will be more attacks like 9/11, lonmdon and mumbai types. Finally, india will have to take the responsibility, like what the US has done in the case of afghanistan etc.
Essentially there is no way that pakistani govt or for that matter the army can stop the jihadis because it is a religious function and many in the paki army support the type jihad waged by laskers.
Lat there be no doubt, irrespective of what the likes of tahmed says, the lasker version is the true religious jihad and no, absolutely no, religious person has come out against that.
Resizing of pakistan is the only option that teh world has got.
