There is also a certain irony in the activism of those liberals who protest the bombing of schools in Swat but never before have been troubled enough to campaign against the fact that thousands of school buildings lie empty around the country in the absence of teachers or enforcement of a decent curriculum, some right outside the cities we live in. Most have also accepted gender-segregated schooling as a necessary ‘cultural’ requirement.
In other words, it is only when extreme action is taken that our social conscience awakens temporarily only to succumb to an apolitical death. Meanwhile, we pretend that this extremism has taken place in what was otherwise normalcy. Also ignored is the fact that such social change emerges within a broader political environment that either sanctions or prohibits the momentum of such movements.
from dawn of today///////////////////////
The educated pakis the ilks of ylh, urstruly etc never cared to talk about the situation before swat.

Actually Major Amin is correct: RAW (or the Russians? Iranians? Somebody) is suppyling the Pakistani Taliban with some extremely sophisticated communications equipment and other military hardware. I was talking to a friend of mine in the Army and he was adamant on this point; had served in NWFP and had seen it himself.
Major Amin: I've heard that the Indians, in principle, have offered the US several divisions for use in Afghanistan and that the Indian Defense Attache who was killed in Kabul was instrumental in these discussions with his Afghan counterparts. Any details on this would be appreciated.
Regards (offering an olive branch here....)

arjun....
"that's straight from the same place ijaz gul got his indo-israeli radar in kyrgystan being used to jam the communications of allah's army..."
means allah's message is not reaching to Pakis properly due to this indo-israeli radar (or jammer)!!! but allah/halla's messages can only be demodulated and decoded by mo, the 7th century barbarian....had the pakis acquired instrument/capability, what mo had claimed?....so, there is substance in Paki claim that, they are beakon of light of ummah....

He said that what Mr Gates had said about the US plan was a unilateral decision which was not binding on Pakistan.
hey pal..your inability to do anything about it is what makes it binding..

Unilateral US decision not binding on Pakistan: Rabbani: Drone attacks
By Iftikhar A. Khan
ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: The Senate was informed on Wednesday that the government had not been informed by the United States about its decision to continue drone attacks in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Speaking on a point of order raised by Professor Khursheed Ahmed, Leader of the House Mian Raza Rabbani rejected the claim of US Defence Secretary Robert Gates that a message had been conveyed to Islamabad about Washington’s decision to continue the attacks inside Pakistani territory.
“Till the very moment no written communication of this nature has been received by the Pakistan government from the US administration, he added.
He said that what Mr Gates had said about the US plan was a unilateral decision which was not binding on Pakistan. If any operation was required it would be carried out by Pakistani security forces, he added.
Mr Rabbani said Pakistan being a sovereign state would not tolerate any aerial or territorial attack and the government was well aware of people’s sentiments. Sons of the soil, he added, would lay down their lives to defend the country if a need arose.
/////////////////////////////
The poor rabbani, he is not aware that teh drone ttacks have been going on for more than a year, and he is correct many pakis have laid down their lives infront of hell fire missiles.
For once, a paki politician has said the truth.

From wiki, the casualty figure from musla side and russian side in afghan conflict stands like bellow-
muslas-1mn
russians-15k...
now, if the exchange rate between a russian and a musla is above 67, then russians lost heavily......
