Captain.. This is a very informative article.

It is very likely that the Taliban are in direct engagement with the international drug mafia. This would provide them critical independence from their earlier paymasters : the Pak army. This would also mean they will be willing to engage in violent crimes for monetary rewards.

Two incidents make sense :

(1) The occupation of Swat, which is severely against the wishes of Pak army (the strategic interests of Pakistan are served as long as the Taliban infest Afghanistan, not the interior of Pakistan) was probably done to find a safer haven for the cultivation of poppies as the earlier areas are under threat from the NATO offensive. The kind of brutal terror that the Swat Taliban is engaged in is definitely reminiscent of the doings of drug mafia in Colombia or Mexico.

(2) The Mumbai attacks, which are clearly a ploy (or an excuse) to divert the Pak army onto the eastern frontier could have been truly been arranged for by non-state actors .. which are the international drug mafia. They definitely have the money and skill to engage in such an operation (though the training and mental brainwashing could have been done in close concert with the Pak army)

US wants its cut on the opium trade just as
USA used money from sale of arms to Iran through Israel
to fund Contras in Nicaragua.

Re: # 18

nkg

Lower prices on exported items translates into lower revenues, same anaogy can be applied to lets say exports unskilled workers from a poor country such as yours or mine, now if the hiring country scales back their demand for labour and reduce wages then of course remittances will decline. Thus the negative economic impact.

Pakistan is the gateway for many things, Mohammad Bin Qasim, Alexander, Mughals and in modern times for the marauding taliban. Do let us know if u want more, we have plenty where they came from.

Re: # 15
RF...
Here is my query...
even if you flood the market from the same source, how come it effects economy negatively?...may be per capita profit will be little less...or opium was pumped into market from different sources?
I have the perception that Pakistan is main gateway for narcotics and india is scared of Pakistan more due to its association (now a days it is islamic terrorism is main one) with narcotic import from Karachi to Mumbai and Gujrat....

52 militants killed as ’copters pound hideouts in Khyber

Saturday, February 07, 2009

By Nasrullah Afridi & Ashrafuddin

BARA/LANDIKOTAL: Retaliating to a suicide attack in Jamrud targeting an Afghanistan-bound convoy taking supplies for the Nato forces, security forces used gunship helicopters to pound militants’ hideouts in Khyber and Orakzai agencies on Friday, killing 52 people.

Khyber Agency’s Political Agent Tariq Hayat Khan claimed that 52 militants were killed in bombing on Chapri Ferozkhel in Khyber and Serai border areas in the adjoining Orakzai Agency. However, no evidence was provided about the deaths of such a large number of militants.

On their part, the Taliban militants refuted the claim and conceded the death of only one of their men, Shakir, belonging to the Shalobar Afridi sub-tribe. Taliban commander Nazeer Afridi also denied the government claim. He told The News that the figure of the militants’ death was exaggerated.

/////////from jang of today////////////

Yesterday was teh kashmir day, the day pakis will be happy to have the kashmiris also to be bombed like the swatis, subjected to crime like the karachiates, swarmed by beggers like the islamabadis.

When will the paki generals accept that what they are doing in swat is a sham, no taliban is getting killed as teh isi provide advance info. It is only bombing of empty houses which are any how made of mud, which they come and rebiuld in a week.

paki are pathetic, and teh worst part is that the poilticians are telling the yanki pols that something is being done.

Obama, call in teh B52s, the jihadis will only learn from daisy cutters. The entire alquida moved to swat after daisy cutters, move them to islamabed by teh same B52s.

How can such gibberish be accepted by the Chowk staff is amazing.

Dear Writer, Mullah Omer (MO) and his cabal stopped heroin trade in Afghanistan for one extremely important reason, ECONOMICS.

Opium market was flooded and prices had experienced steep declines, thus the need to control supply.

Story of Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakil is much worse ( for India). They are still extracting money from Mumbai, investing on Mumbai Urdooo movies, north indian goats watch these movies enmass to make it profitable. The profit is pumped back to Dubai,Pakistan to sponsor next jihadi attack...

Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt etc... are part of this underworld network and they even tried to kill Hritwik Roshan....
Do you know, why Amitabh Bachchan shifted his loyalty towards SP from congress, when Congress lost election in Maharashtra?

Gohar left Karachi again for a few months and when he returned, he created yet another group. This time, their modus operandi was to target homes in Nazimabad and Gulberg. From 2007 till 2008, they committed a number of successful robberies and made away with million of rupees, of which Gohar’s share was between Rs0.5 to eight million rupees.

After making huge sums of money, Gohar got married again and also constructed a house in his hometown. His remaining accomplices, Asim and Lodhi, moved to Dubai and Malaysia respectively. All of this just goes to show how easy it is for a dacoit to become a millionaire in the prevailing lawless climate in the city.

//////above is the story of two robbers in karachi, from jang of today. The interesting part is that two of them, one is in Dubai and the other in malaysia. This appear to be a good approach, make money by crime in pakistan and move abroad, no wonder the crime rate of pakistanis is high in all countries compared to other immigrants.

Madness in the mountains
Friday, February 06, 2009
The militants who control most of Swat have gone mad. They have now threatened to kill lawyers and judges, as they represent a system that they oppose. Instead of the Constitution and code of law, they wish to impose their own version of Shariah law. What kind of order this would bring can be judged from the evil that seems to be a militant hallmark, unmistakable even when an attempt is made to disguise it behind a thin veneer of false morality. It is this morality that Maulana Fazlullah and his men resort to when they make their threats over the illegal FM radio they continue to run. The latest such threat has been made to the lawyers, with the Swat Bar Association warning all of its 300 members to stop attending the regular courts or risk death. And such threats must be taken seriously given by the brutal manner in which the militants have conducted themselves in the valley. In fact, in the same report which spoke of the threat to the legal community of Swat, was a sorry tale, given by a person none other than the region’s police chief, of how the militants had recently gang-raped and killed four women in Kabal – and a total of nine in all in recent weeks.

Out of fear caused by this terror, leaders of the legal community in Swat have suggested enforcing Sharia.

//////////from Jang of today////////////

The news is interesting, the bar association has suggested that they will work for the taliban and enforce sharia.

I recall that you tube clip by ajaya, the paki general was giving a pep talk to teh soldiers and all that he could say was that the taliban are telling that others are not true muslims. hence they have to be fought. There was no mention of constitution, rule of law, nothing. It is a jihadic war to preserve islam.

That well and truly explains why in kargill the captured indian soldiers were tortured, mutilated and killed. Paki army is a jihadic army and can only fight the kafirs.

the paki army cannot win in swat, the taliban vlaues are the same as paki army values

4. Abudullah Abdullah, ex foreign minister from northern alliance.

Among few others this culprit is a candidate as pointed by USA to replace Karzai(of Helmand).
