Re # 9. Masadi Sahib, I agree. It should have been published in the Cloumbia Journalism Review. I am glad you read it and gave your stamp of approval. Thanks.

The bit about the Arab press is so true. The control on the "print media" is centralized in the arab world. People are dumbed down and hence are self involved. The newspapers in english language are even a bigger joke.
Just a note: Dubai is not a country. Its not even the capital of the country and the press here now is controlled by the more prudent and oil-rich father capital so that no one can print how bad the things really are.
In comparison to that I do find respite in some of the pakistani newspapers available online- that's when I am not busy sms-ing, google-ing or wikipedia-ing for information :)

Bhatti Yaar, this was a lighthearted joke. Should have been published under ‘semi-serious satire’. God, you guys are so sensitive. Of course I am biased toward the New York Times. Don’t look for messages when there are none. Even jokingly, I was comparing Pakistani press with other and I feel that they are doing as good (or as bad) as their counterparts in other parts of the world (bar NYTimes).

Lala Kulharee,

Overall quite an interesting article; but it could have been much better if you were a bit more focused on scope of the article.

I say scope because at the start of the article it seemed that your focus is Indian Sub Continent's print media. Then you went on to include UK, and I thought that you are talking about Common Wealth (like old Brits); then you went on to scratch Arabs, and that is where you lost your message, if there was any to begin with. I then hanged my hopes with the nail of global review of print media by you but as it does not include print media of Far East, Continental Europe and all of the Latin America, this piece is anything but global in its outlook and scope unless, of course, like a good Indic (thanks and sorry kaal), your world only consists of US, UK, Middle East and Indian Sub Continent.

The second problem with this article is with your objectivity and partiality. After discussing the state of print media in various parts of the world, you ended up in lauding US print media (NY Times) without building base for it in your article; and the icing on the cake was that you discussed and concluded print media of various places, but took the exception with Pakistani media to give your golden advice in the end.

Sir ji, this approach is exactly like the journalists of Pakistani Newspapers (predominantly of the Urdu variety), who go on saying that all the fault lies with US (without giving arguments in support) and then take out their anger on India....... sigh...seems that you can take a Pakistani out of Pakistan but cannot take out Pakistan out of a Pakistani...

Press if from printing press, a mechanical device that is no longer used. It's all electronic now, including newspaper printing. We should substitute print media for press.
I hope you find this thought as scintillating (or not) as your article.
