Re: # 8
I just said that in English a glass never sits on the table...even in urdu it would translate "glass jo table per betha hua tha"...maybe "lying on the table" would be more appropriate??? but as you said

"There is nothing wrong with glass sitting on the table."

Anyways at the end of the day you are the translator and the final decision is of course yours...

raiya-23:

The last line of this story is as follows:
"Shafqat felt as if he had received the bullet and his dead body fell in her lap."
Shafqat didn't die; he felt as if he had died and "his dead body fell in her lap."
Your comprehension is too literal. There is nothing wrong with "glass sitting on the table."
Be well,
Mohammad Gill

you translated: "it will fill this glass that is sitting on this table.”

a glass never "sits" on the table...it is just "on the table"

plus the story i think lost some of its vivid descriptions in translation...it appears kind of prosaic...i will have 2 read the urdu one 2 confirm

why did he die in the end??? isnt the ending kind of far fetched???

Re: # 5

Ama yaar Partha, being lazy and sleepy is so much more fun than being alert and awake. I recommend you try it too!

This is a showcase male-hate article that makes no pretences that it is nt really so.

WAKE UP, LAZY MALES! SPEAK UP!

A bit of a melodramatic ending but a sad and true commentary on human hypocrisy nevertheless.

Great selection from the master storyteller and an excellent translation.
