This is with reference to the news of Baitullah Mehsud’s death. It’s a welcome news for whole Pakistani nation and give a sigh of relief for the country that the Pakistan’s number one enemy is dead. I want to congratulate the nation and appeal to the armed forces to clean up the rest of pockets of resistance to make Pakistan a land of peace once again.

Re: # 18
here is what you missed which is covered in the amnesty report, let me also correct you that ahmadis still suffer todate, not just 70s, I am not able to find a report by human rights group where recently couple of ahmadi kids are arrested and are in jail for quite few months now and also a professor from chakwal was attacked in his house, they try to cut his throat and stabbed him while shouting "you are a qadyani therefore we came to kill you", he has survived but after hospital, they put him into jail for being ahmadi, while no action has been taken against attackers.
*Geo Television Discussion Justifies Murder of Ahmadi Muslims
The programme was broadcast on 7th September 2008. On 8th September 2008 Dr Abdul Mannan Siddiqi, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Mirpurkhaas, Sindh was murdered whilst working in the local hospital. The very next day on 9th September 2008, Seth Muhammad Yousuf, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Nawab Shah, Sindh was also murdered. Both of these victims were killed simply due to their membership of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Both murders took place in broad daylight.
March 14, 2009: Brutal murder of Ahmadi hubsand and wife doctors in Pakistan. Dr Shiraz Bajwa was 37 years old and Dr Noreen Bajwa was 29 years of age. They enjoyed extremely good reputations both professionally and personally, and were extremely popular amongst their colleagues. Although they had faced threats for some time due to their being Ahmadi, neither of them ever reacted to the provocation that they faced.
March 13, 2009: Fifteen Ahmadis charged in Pakistan under the infamous Anti-Ahmadiyya Law 298C. Why? Because a non-Ahmadi wanted to hire some shops owned by an Ahmadi adjacent to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque. The Ahmadi owner refused the offer, as was his right to do so. This non-Ahmadi very conveniently went to local Mullah who filed a case against Ahmadis for "posing as Muslims".
as a pakistani, it disgust me to read such things. and these things do not go public, and are covered up well. why? forget thier sects, they are human beings first, for god sake let them live and practise what they want to, who are we to judge and then kill? to murder someone who has not harmed you in anyway, will never get you the paradise that mullas makes you dream of !!! wake up for god sake and try to teach yourself.
peace for all.

teshah writes "the very Constitution of Pakistan turned into a 'Takfiri Fatwa' by ZAB. "
At least he was able to get you a democratic constition and that Fatwa thing was American manipulation that he tried to counter as we saw those thugs used the Army and "Islam" to oust him. Give him credit for being the only true leader this nation has seen.

okhla writes "Time and again such incidents take place with impunity and remarkable alacrity. "
In America they do but occur as an exception in Pakistan and the remarkable alacrity is found in the justice system in the US that sends minorities to deathrow, a polite form of lynching that is practiced in this so called "civilized" country. On the other hand the holier than thou hypocrites advertise any and every transgression by their adversaries even as they hide their own dirt....

The recent incidents in Gojra are a grim reminder of how existing half laws can be manipulated for personal and political ends. Besides loss of life, property or the reputation of the country, it also reflects an opportunist political system in which strange bedfellows can be espoused for political expediency and where rule of law can be applied selectively. Worse, it exposes false claims of the provincial and federal governments over constant surveillance of banned militant outfits in Punjab.
The entire trail from Jhang to Gojra, Mian Channu and Shantinagar is littered with similar incidents of religiously fanned hatred spearheaded by banned militant outfits. Time and again such incidents take place with impunity and remarkable alacrity. It is to question why the local administration is caught sleeping and why no preventive measures manifest themselves in pre emptive actions.

Well done dear but what about the Hadees I quoted in my post at #46 and the very Constitution of Pakistan turned into a 'Takfiri Fatwa' by ZAB. No Sir the situation seems to be hopeless as no one dares to catch the bull by its horns. We are doomed as the Gojra mayhem, I am afraid, is likely to be repeated on the national scale, and then on the international one with the 'fanatico-nuclear bomb', unless the world awakes and realizes that:
"By raising the Taliban bogey, politicians and officials will succeed in diverting the course of judicial enquiry from the real issue. And that is religious hatred rooted in the laws of the country waiting to explode at the slightest pretext. The Gojra tragedy is in no way linked to the Taliban terror. The author of the laws of hate and the father of terror in the borderlands, however, are one and the same man."

General ZIA responsible for institutionalizing intolerance, bigotry and hate in Pakistan. The laws and policies that were undertaken by General Zia destroyed a lot in Pakistan, and the negative effects of his policies are being felt to this day' it is during Zia’s time that one sees conscious efforts by the state to use religion against moderate, democratic elements and to also foster violent non-state actors. Now while Zia has been dead and buried for a long time, his policies still haunt us. The jihadi groups that flourished with state patronage during Zia’s time are the ones that today either fight alongside Al Qaeda and the Taliban, carry out sectarian and ethnic attacks or target innocent Pakistanis through suicide bombings. Let us also not forget that one such jihadi organisation, Laskhar-e Tayba, and its “charity” wing, the Jama’at-ud Dawa, planned and executed the horrific Mumbai attacks that not only harmed relations between India and Pakistan, but also shamed us internationally. It is a big challenge for any government willing to take on the intolerance, bigotry and violence that have been injected into our society. But one hopes that the government will at least make an effort; Prime Minister Gilani’s announcement that the government will review and amend the Blasphemy Laws is a good start.

In a series Pakistan is witnessing heartfelt and painful tragedies in the name of religion while no school of thought, religion or sect on the surface of earth teaches its followers to kill, behead, kidnap the opponents and loot and set their houses and belongings on fire but this everything is happening inside Pakistan under the leadership of very few so-called religious pseudo scholars and their organisations in the name of religion and Islam. After Zia's dictatorship Pakistan went into the era of continuous extremism. People were introduced with heavy weapons whish were spread around the country. Shia-Sunni so-called violence started and hatred amongst different groups created. People in millions have been killed and disabled. Afterwards what Pakistan gained in positive in the democratic governments of Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif were distorted by another dictator Musharraf.

you are a minority to feel the pain of fellow humans, and the dismal human rights record of your berthern.
Many educated Pakis in the US are no different from lalu phalu jahils in Gojra, they celebrate or become mute and blind at events like this. Or, they start barking about Hindu/jewish conspiracies.

ITEM ONE
Got the following email from a like-minded friend:
["... I felt somewhat better after reading the Punjab Chief Minister's statement in a newspaper regarding the Gojra mob terror episode. Read the headline statement of Shahbaz Sharif in the following URL (You may need to copy the URLs and paste them in your browser).
http://express.com.pk/epaper/PoPupwindow.aspx?newsID=1100685925&Issue=NP_L HE&Date=20090805
But then I found the following poster published on the front page of the very same newspaper just a few weeks ago. It summarizes the declarations of a conference held under the same Chief Minster. Read point # 2 in the poster.
http://www.express.com.pk/epaper/Article.aspx?newsID=1100661217&Date=20090 703&Issue=NP_LHE
I never had any doubts in my mind, but for the optimists among us, this should serve as a painful reminder as to why carnage in the name of Islam is here to stay with us for quite some time!..."]
ITEM TWO
ISLAM for the ENLIGHTENED and MODERATE MUSLIM
The following link is for a radio station in LA where Dr. Syed Asar ul Islam gives lectures on Islam and Quranic study.
Asar ul Islam was two years senior to us in school and today he is a neurologist and neuropsychiatrist in the US. He is also a devoted Islamic student and shares his learning with his audiences on Shalimar Radio. In my recent telephone conversation with him (about two months ago) he sounded optimistic and full of enthusiasm about the future.
He and I have had our divergences of opinion, but I respect his views.
Following is the link for Radio Shalimar.
I invite all of you to listen to this program and hear Asar give a refreshing view of Islam. (turn your speakers on) The lecture is about three quarters of an hour.
