We are gifted with natural terrain and rivers with suitable slopes and ideal topography for hydropower generation at enormous locations in the North. Its a pity that we are still producing only 34 % of our power by this most economical and environment friendly natural resource.
Our uncalled for reliance on thermal and rental power plants has lead us to a serious cash crunch. It is such an irony that we are dependent on furnace oil ( a source of energy itself ) for inefficient power generation which is neither economical nor environment friendly. The only thing it ensures is to put incredible burden on our import bill.
Alternate energy can only contribute marginally and cannot be developed as a chief source to supplement our energy needs.

Initial investment in WInd Energy is very high...Otherwise, it is very useful...Furthermore, these unconventional energy tapping should be backed up by thermo-electric power generation ( Coal/Gas burning or Nuclear)....

Syed Badruddin
You have made a worthwhile suggestion. I do hear about some wind farming projects in Pakistan but I am not sure if alternative energy could resolve the present crisis.
