Dear Dr.
I apologize for my vague response. My personal "spiritual"
experiences led me on a path for answers. What is "IT" that I experience? Is "IT" a medical condition? Or, is "IT" God?
My search has included reading many books by some great philosophers and theologians. I have read books on the para-normal. I have dabbled in psychology and sociology. I have studied people, their history, culture, and beliefs. Archeology fasinates me, because Holy books, (the Bible and the Koran), are used to map out geological digs. For me that proves there is more to what people deem as myth or legend. The destruction of the Egyptian libraries is a great tragedy and an injustice to all mankind. I have also listened and read debates between evolution and creation. I have satisfied my curiosity on evolution and dismiss it. I also dismiss religion as it is too political and has been used to deceive many people. My search has been difficult.
My answer is two-fold. There is a physical truth (reality)
and a spiritual reality (the ultimate truth). I concur, to those who believe (in a Higher Power), no explaination is necessary. To those who don't believe, no explaination is possible. In conclusion, for me personally, whatever "IT" is,I trust "IT". "IT" is peaceful.
Sincerely, Sky

With great respect I will attempt not to sound biased in my personal answer. Spirit: Supernatural. The metaphysical essence that transcends physical and mental understanding.
Spiritual people are hard to understand mentally. A natural person says, "If it doesn't make sense then it's not true."
The natural man does not understand the spiritual man.
Some choices a spiritual person makes does not make sense to a non-spiritual person. Those who are natural or non-spiritual, try to understand everything in their minds. But the spiritual person discerns things by the spirit.Again, soul is mind, will, and emotions. The two should compliment each other, but instead the mind becomes a battlefield.

Soul/Psyche? I believe they are one in the same.
The understanding I have from the Bible is: Definition for soul is, mind, will, and emotions. We don't "have" a soul, we are a "soul". Personally, I think people confuse "spirit"
with soul.

Re#33, drsohail,
What happens to mind at the time of death? Does it 'leave' the brain? When we talk of unity of body and soul it implies inseparability. They cease together and are resurrected together. This is the original Hebraic concept. Soul/body duality is from Greek philosophy.

dear khurram...i was anxiously waiting for your answer for clarity. i do not know about rahul but now i am more confused. when you talk about unity of body and soul at the time of resurrection, then what happens at the time of death. does not death mean soul leaving the body?
affectionately

#26, Rahul, yes that is the mainstream christian definition and it implies a disembodied soul.
But, there has always been a concept of unity of body and soul and in this case bodily resurrection means the resurrection of both and not a reunion.

dear bhs 75...thank you for your honest response. based on 40 years of my readings, personal and professional life experiences and introspection i have come to the conclusion that there are as many truths as human beings and as many realities as pairs of eyes in this world. all genuine religious, spiritual and secular traditions have one thing in common...humanism...respect for humanity. i respect human beings even when i disgree with them. as a psychotherapist i help my patients to decrease their human suffering and create a healthy, happy and peaceful life for themselves, that i call green zone living. i have written a number of books based on my philosophy that you can find on my website
www.greenzoneliving.ca
i also realize that we have two choices when we interact with people, we can judge them like priests do and declare them sinners or we can accept them as mystics and saints do. i like to accept people for who they are. i do not need to agree with them. we can always agree to disagree. so i accept you and respect your faith whatever it is as it is meaningful for you and i hope you can accept me with my imperfections. no human being is perfect. after we accept and respect each other then we can have a genuine dialogue. please share with me your faith and philosophy. who were the writers that impressed you?
all the best

Dr sb. although bulley shah wrote it in a spiritual sense and these people had no interest in the material world.
what is on my wall does refer. to the current picture of our society, but then challenging faith is something I would not call being 'intellectual'.
I do not hate anyone, but when you denounce or question your faith and stay on it while keeping things which are linked to the faith, that is hypocracy.
you must use your practise to heal the socially ill & not deviate from the faith cause either you have it or not. do you have a doubt about your religion?

love for all...hatred for none
i believe the whole humanity is one family, one tribe and our enemies are our distant cousins. do you agree with that?

Dr. sahib hangs out with so-called-muslims-turned-atheists, some marks can be seen in his writing as well.
Surely Dr. sb is also standing on the verge of a pithole where the brain skips the boundry between faith and logic.
yes, Fatiha is appropriate.

#26, it does not the particular in connection to the whole as in the holographic interpretation of the universe can reestablish itself through the brain/soul connection- in other words the "book of every person being handed to them" on resurrection day according to the Quran

Khurram,
If "Resurrection is the religious concept of the reunion of the spirit and the body of a dead person", then how does belief in resurrection invalidate "the idea of a soul independent of body"?
