TAJ MAHAL
(With Apologies to Sahir Ludhianvi)

Sweetheart! Let us rendezvous somewhere else …

Taj Mahal may be a symbol of true love to you

You maybe greatly impressed with this royal roost

My Love! All this monument of so-called “love”

One can touch and feel the scabs of slavery.

You who is so impressed with this royal castlery

Should have thought of stingy houses around you and me.

Bajillions of folks have been lovers in this world

Who dares deny their love weren’t true

But they didn’t have the means to advertise their love

For they were as poor as you and me and our dog named Boo.

My Love! They may also be greatly in love

Those who chiseled these marbles into Taj Mahal.

But their symbols of love are nowhere and anywhere

And no two lovers have ventured to rendezvous there!

This marbled calligraphy advertising an arranged love

A feudal king with absolute power and obscene wealth

Has insulted the love of poor people like us!

I like both stories. Reading pleasure is in the eye of indiviual reader. Why are the other readers arguing? This writer is Hindu from her name. She never mentioned Jinnah. It is a story from Europe. How do we always bring it to Pakistan and India? Thi is story about world's humanity, war and peace. I beg others to look past their own prejudices to address the humanity as a whole.

Nicely written but "Nabil & Fatima" was more captivating, a better way to put it would be, as a written story, it got you imagining the series of events like a movie does.

Cheers

A touching slice of life tale. I remember watching Admira Bosko photograph on BBC when the Sarajevo war was ongong. For readers there is a film called Romeo and Juliet of Sarajevo based on Admira Bosko affair and death. Stories like this remind us of the fruitlessness of war. Shakuntala has said it admiringly. Peace to the dead.

I so enjoyed the previous story by Rao and this one is as good and excellent. This is one of best writers for chowk. He is developing the theme of inter culture and inter religious empathy and in a distinguished manner. The post before me is wrong. The author's point is not separatism, it is more harmony and peace. To author, write more, you have command of style and language.

This is reason, why incompatible species/groups/cults/religion (call them what you want) must not reside
together. Great statesmen have always recognized this. Jinnah was ABSOLUTELY right; to give an example.
