hullo kew,

i would like to add my tupenny`s worth to your short history of sufism and qawwali, with specific mention to the movemement that lent subcontinental sufism its musical edge. i refer of course to amir khusro and his years with hazrat nizamuddin awliya in 12th century old delhi. khusro`s development of hindvi and blending of dhrupad with persian music made popular this music form; and all qawwals bar none first acknowledge his contribution. incidentally, your 14th century reference to the spread of the chistiya silsila and khwaja garib nawaz is off by three centuries.

I agree that the next Nusrats will be recognized
before CNN and Rolling S. cover them.
Even Nusrat was recognized before his international fame for what he was.
He bacame ``popular`` afterwards. Even if a single kew
recognizes, it`s enough. As was the case with
Nusrat, the Kews and a few un-Kews recognized
the reincarnation of enduring ancient harmonies.
