Extremely captivating! Not alone for its idea and lingo, but also for the fact that it provides a glimpse of caliber that obviously shouldn't have ever remained 'closeted'.
I am so glad you carried on forth.
Best wishes

Oh wow! so much talk about so many things in such little space, you must be a magician. Further to the encapsulated article about so many topics the comments add an even more spicy tone to the forum, even if I wanted to I cant stop laughing out loud when I read:
"#63 Posted by shahmurad by the way what is your email and telephone no?.....mine is 0333-2119602 and i m DR.SHAH MURAD from gulshan iqbal karachi."
Without exaggeration it sounds exactly like standing by the chowk(without the chowkidar of course).
It is certainly an article that pulls a reader back to it more than once just to be sure what I think I read is really mentioned or am I hallucinating.
Best wishes

What a BEAUTIFUL article! I have actually read this one several times, and in the future will keep on doing so, because everytime, it brings such an invigorating smile to my face... absolutely celluloid content. Top notch stuff! Wow. I can`t help but continue with exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!

hey saima, great article and considering that it was published two years ago is really an eye opener, as the world is the same, pakistan is the same, hardly we are going towards real progression, and if we are then i am sorry to state that its minute in a sense that its not that visible to a layman`s eye :)

I wonder what you are dear Saminashah up above the world so high. How can one talk to you without having been introduced to you. I am not sure about your sex even though your name indicates that you are a female or have been one once. In any case I am interested in you and your articles which are perfect chowky style. But please come down to earth. The Pakland is standing at the crossroads (or it has been so from the day one), from Quaide Azam down to Zia and now vacilating moderate Musharraf. We are a confused nation having no sure ground to stand on and the abominable mulla is taking advantage of it by his shear stinking animalism helped by his terroristic outfit. So please write also about the mulla`s blasphemic laws and the halafnamas one has to submit to these demigods.

[I want to talk about Buddhism and Descartes. ]
How about Islam and Ghazali?
[I want to speak of Iqbal and humanism. ]
How about Farangi_Kush and Fundamentalism?
[second most corrupt nation in the world. (why not first?...I feel almost cheated). ]
Not any more, thanks to Nigeria, Zaire......
[I want to ask why is it that we don`t know how much we love something till we lose it ? Is that what will happen with Pakistan? ]
Democracy? Tiger Peak in Kargill?
[and I want to hear what you have to say. I want to learn from you and grow. ]
How about first finishing the business of growing land area of Pakistan with the inclusion of Kashmir?
Five years ago, everything present was five years younger.

i have been for man years an admirer of muslim thought, poetry, architecture, and some concepts of Islam (like equality, etc), though i am not a muslim myself; indeed i am a son of hindu parents who escaped from karachi, like muslims who escaped from this side, during the insane carnage in the wake of the partition.
during my several years of stay in dubai, i came into close contact with many pakistanis, some of whom are my dearest friends even long after my return to india. and the pain of not getting a visa to hop across to karachi and lahore is too much.
that pain is compounded by even more as i see pakistan taking what i consider to be wrong steps. this has to do not only with army rule. which is one manifestation of the symptoms, but even more in the attitude of pakistanis. the spirit of self-analysis is not there in enough quantities. and the general mood of criticising the failures in the indian experience (which of course exist) while conveniently ignoring the larger successes made by us, is sad. of course there is sometimes the discrimination at lower levels of life against people, but it is not aimed at muslims or christians or any ethnic group as such; but whoever is in power or greater numbers anywhere tends to discriminate against the smaller, and not infrequently it may be the hindus too.
Witness then in this scenario that we can not only have had a muslim president, but currently the richest indian in the world is a muslim, azim premji of wipro, based in bangalore. in cricket, films, and virtually everywhere, no difference to us, indeed we are proud to say so. in fact, anyone, jain, buddhist (the dalai lama lives here), anyone indeed, is a great person if he does something good, not just because he is born a hindu, muslim, sikh, you name it. because he delivers.
that is why i liked your meanderings saima, because from your article it is clear that you think, and that`s where it all starts no, at thinking? thinking there was a problem got archimedes invent the screw, just as modern scientists are using their thinking to fight heart disease etc. bye!

everyone knows that pakistani economy is going through recession and indian economy is booming. how many people know that even in the darkest hour of pakistani economy, per capita GDP production of pakistan is twice than india and per cpita income is three times. the biggest problem with pakistani economy is not that we are a poor people. the biggest problem is this that government is not able to collect 90% of the taxes.

SHAME ON YOU ALL.
One hundred children have been raped and then killed brutally afterwards. How come the Police did not know nothing about this heinous crime. It is been 48 hours or may be more and the main accused is still at large. In Pakistan anyone can buy anything in the open market? Why the accused was not checked when he was buying drum load of acids? One should have some kind of permit or license to buy these big quantities of chemicals.
We have not heard or read any statements by Interior Minister who is directly incharge of law and order in this country. SHAME ON GEN.(R ) MOIN-UD-DIN HAIDER. HE SEEMS TO BE TOO BUSY IN OTHER CRAP HAPPENING POLITICALLY IN THE COUNTRY. HE SHOULD RESIGN FROM HIS POST.
WHAT ABOUT THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE WHO NEVER LET A DAY GO BY WHEN HE SHOWS HIS CONCERN FOR THE POOR AND THEIR PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY. WE HAVE NOT READ ANY STATEMENT BY HIM ON THIS COLDBLOODED MURDERS. ONE HUNDERED FUTURES HAVE BEEN KILLED RELENTLESLY.
WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE POLITICIANS FROM LEFT AND RIGHT WHO ATTENDED THE FUNERAL OF CE’s FATHER FOR A CHEAP POPULARITY AND FOR WORSHIPING THE RISING SUN. HOW MANY POLITICIANS HAVE GONE TO THE HOMES OF BREAVED FAMILIES FOR CONDOLENCES AND SHOWING THEIR SOLIDARITY WITH THEM.
SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. ALLAH BLESS PAKISTAN AND PAKISTANIS TO GET RID OF THIS PANDORAS BOX.
