Ahsan
Like your sentiments,I experience the same here everyday with the Pakistani community. And it is also true with the Lebanese, Palestinian, Bangladeshis, Afghanistanis, Saudis, Indonesian, Malaysian, Chinese, Bosnian, Croatian, Tunisian, Algerian and even British anglo saxon expatriats, you name it and I will include it here, communities. Every one of them talk about Australia as a moral, cultural, religious, social and ethical cesspit as compared to their own country but willing to live here for their children sake. I work with all these communities. I guess such wide spread occurence can only be termed tribally instinctive.
Another 20 years down the track when this cadre is dead and burried, their children will grow up to be decent Australian, American etc and will have no ties which will inhibit their mental elevation.
good to hear your point of view

I find my self in agreement with my brother Ahsan Ahmed. Surely the point with a girl and a guy is a slap in the face of all of us who still want every luxury and still cant face the truth.

dear ahsan,
this isn`t trash. sure you`re trashing things, but it isn`t trash. you have verbalized the feelings many have, and you have done it honestly. as for the somewhat abrasive style, it`s just one more way or promoting debate.
first, since you haven`t been here very often or for very long your feelings are purely surface reactions. i feel the same way about most of the things that you do, but having lived here all my life i have also see the other, more pleasant side of life here which i why here i am and here i will remain.
i understand where the `what has this place does for me that i should feel proud of it` reaction comes from. this place hasn`t done much for you because you haven`t given it an opportunity to. it is not paradise by any strecth of the imagination, but it`s not a true hellhole either. what we are is a nation in it`s infancy, fresh out of labour, struggling to find our feet. sure america has more opportunities and is in many ways a better soceity, but it`s also been around a whole lot longer. do you think nations are born perfect? consider the time, the lives and the effort involved in making great nations what they are.
one of the wonderful things about this country is that there are people here who are willing to make that effort.
i feel bad for all those people who tell you how you should feel about this country, they sound quite silly but, as someone mentioned earlier, dont listen to them. and if the green passport is something you would like to forget, so be it. happy re-inventing.

You seem very confused, and angry. Perhaps you are trying to find your own identity. Try as you might, you will never be completely American, or Pakistani. Not that that is important.
Why are you so worried about Pakistanis telling you how to feel about Pakistan? If you don`t like it, just ignore them. There is no reason to put them down.
You give your own reason for not understanding Pakistan, when you state, ``Now, I was born in Pakistan, but I’ve never lived there. I grew up in the Middle East and moved to the United States when I was 16.`` So I doubt you will ever understand Pakistan.
Pakistan has given you one thing, i.e. a passport. You would not have been able to live in the Middle East, or become a naturalized American had you not had that passport. So don`t put it down. It got you this far. You should look at people from Palestine, who don`t have any passport, and see how many problems they have.
If you don`t like someone, ignore them; don`t put them down. That shows your own weaknesses. I did not like the working conditions in Pakistan (due to many of the reasons you have mentioned), so I left and came to America. But that does not mean I have a right to bad-mouth Pakistan. The same holds for you.

Here is one point of view which you may or may not
appreciate:
PAKISTAN
P assionate is this embrace of freedom
A uthentic in its vision of nationhood
K indness is the Indus, tears of happiness on a parched land
I nspiring the beauty of the snow capped Karakorams
S alient is the diversity, total appreciation a difficult task
T ested are the limits of a peoples` romance
A utographed by a new generation of Sufi mystics
N inetynine names of god on there lips

very good,
explain this to all south asians.
only when induvidual people and countries stop bothering about neibours and keep their relegious belifs to themselfs and concentrate on self improvement and community growth there will be a chance for better country.
my oppinion about religion is, it is only a part of life it should never be life it self.
too much religion will become a drug overdose and will harm life it self

Mr Ahsan is a typical ``ABCD wanna be`` ...
born in Pakistan, lived in Middle east and moved to the United States ! Did you know that first of all you dont even qualify to become the President of the United States and even if you did ... ``not in a million years``...
What is with us anyway ?? Ghar chaye kitna ganda ho ghar ghar hota hai ... their our problems in Pakistan and yes United States is a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY ... but the vitality of the United States was not sapped by colonialism ..... we have problems because no body cares enough to solve them ... and others like you are too busy with ``their beautiful fiancee) .....
By the way mashallah my family lives in Pakistan and funds my education from there ....
Maybe Mr Ahsan just shares a set of values different from other Pakistanis ... I mean he spoke about sexual preferences didnt he???????
