Everyone, just has to write back and vent their anger on you...after reading the first couple of replies, it isn`t hard to understand why Sheryar...hates Pakistan. I hate Pakistan too. I was born abroad, but unlike Sheryar lived in Pakistan for five years. In those five years, I have had my family tied up at gun point and robbed of over $250,000...and when the thieves got caught the police seemed to ``forget: about the money; I have experienced people who have such realms of apathy that it cannot be found anywhere else in the whole world. They cheat, steal, beat up whoever for whatever, men wear tighter jeans then Garth Brooks but berate a woman who even wears jeans. Then the rulers they are no better, uneducated freaks who have left the country in ruins. People`s money has been literally stolen by the freezing of foreign bank accounts...and the government is willing to use that very money for frivolous reasons. I for one, am glad that Pakistan lost the WWC final, for that money would have gone to give the players houses, cash, plots instead of feeding the poor and investing in businesses to create more jobs.
The life in Pakistan is great, people drive around in $100,000 cars which they paid cash for thats true, they have servants at their every beck and call, thats true...but would you rather have that or the personal security, satisfaction, and feeling of accomplishment which you can achieve abroad. I had ample opportunity in Pakistan to run my father`s textile factories once I graduated from college, but I refused the life of driving the fancy cars, the servants, the totally fake rich upper class of Lahore, all in search of honesty...all in search of a community were people ``keep it real`` that I only found in the states.
Yes I hate the cab drivers and the gas station people almost as much as the people in Pakistan. The problem here, is that we should educate each other...thats were we can succeed. Uneducated people simply give everyone else a bad name and they ruin what could have been a perfect situation: Pakistan.

Ahsen Ahmad,
You sure have stirred up a hornets` nest. You have succeeded in bringing many new respondants out of the closet. That in itself is an achievement. So much venom is pouring out against YOU, it must be very flattering! Truth hurts. And you`ve hurt these people bad (no wonder some of them are after your blood). For that (hurting feelings, that is) I think you may consider an apology. However, you need not apologize for have stated certain sad facts. You gave your detractors a much needed excuse by unwisely using improper language (four-letter words) in two places. O, ho, that gives them all the justification to boil you in hot oil. Also, you slipped when you went on the rhetorical recounting of the virtues of the US. Sure, they are going to point out all the ills of the US society, yet conveniently excusing their homeland. I wish you had not sung the virtues of the US, it simply gave them another excuse to detract from the real issues you brought up.
Good luck. Next time, perhaps you`ll be a little more subtle, then the real dumb ones won`t even get it. Really, you didn`t have to rub it in so hard.
Re: ALL ---IMPORTANT---
It is distressing enough that personal insults are being thrown at the author without engaing him in a mature debate. But most disturbing of all is that fact that an implied DEATH THREAT has been issued to the author (fataquie #59) and no one has somuch as raised an eyebrow. This is unexceptable. I urge the CHOWK STAFF to trace this person by his ISP ID and report this matter to the FBI and to the competent authorities of the state of this person`s residence as well as to this person`s ISP. This is the worse form of ``unacceptable behavior`` and we must take such threats literally and act upon them. All the readers and the Chowk Staff will be legally and morally responsible if this person were to actually act upon (or attempt to act upon) his sick and twisted ideology.

First of all I must admit that I don`t like it to sound like a personal animosity or vendetta but some clarifications do need to be made....
i told u to read the articles carefully and then attribute something to me...apparently u didnt and in ur desire to be oversmart u r distorting things....Fatique in re#59 talked about all that what u term``i know what u did last summer``...so I was not the one who threatened or something...plz u urself get ur eyes and brain(if there is) checked.....[and I am sharayar, not shahrayar....as u write...now tell me who has a problem with his eyes!!!!!]
and no I dont like sitting in crap..it`s just that I believe we..I mean Pakistani`s should work in clearing the mess and if one can`t..he/she has no right to degrade us and be sarcastic...yes...they should enjoy in their heaven..the tropical islands and stuff.....
and neither am I from some madrissah as u deem me to be..[however even if I was that doesnt make me a lesser human being]....
I m glad that my ``jazba`` is quite clear.....and plz reply only if u have a solid arguement...those sardonic and sarcastic replies of u[supposed, coz u seem more a royal circus comedian and a yes-man] dont impress me much......

One may not agree with all the author has to say, but some of the replies to this article only bolster certain of the author`s claims. The theory that we Pakistanis as a group are intolerant of different opinions is not all untrue.
Someone once said that: ``Nothing is sacred`` and followed that with ``Everything is sacred``.
Pakistan is not sacred. Pakistan is sacred.
Pakistan sux :)

Hello Ahsan,
Kudos to you for mustering up a pathetic backing to your article. There are people in this world who still support you, i feel sorry for all of them.

Solitude # 60
I think your friends don`t understand you. I, however, agree with your complaint.
Chotu # 75
I meant `faith` as building block of human behavior – not religion
The point is not whether pakistan stinks or not. We can see, hear and read. But we love it in sickness and in health. You hate it just because it does not have as much to offer to you as America. It is the Ahsans reply 44 that irks me.

My friend ! our eagerness to build a country that is beyond help (your opinion)is a sort of Jehad on our part. We don`t leave our country stranded in bad times and in need.
Instead of playing your positive role, if you leave your country just b/c things aren`t looking good to you then take my advice and book a place for yourself on ``MOON`` b/c things could go wrong anytime anyplace.
Another important thing, don`t use bad words for anyone b/c it represents ones family background (no offence).

``Assimilation: Applies to the conduct of an individual who, intentionally or unintentionally starts imitating the mannerisms of someone else. A person exhibiting this weekeness forgets his own background, national character and culture or, if he remembers them at all, recalls them with contempt. Obsesseively, and with no reservation, he denies himself in order to transform his identity. Hoping to attain the distinctions, and the grandeur, which he sees in another, the assimilator attempts to rid himeself of percieved shameful associations with his original society and culture ...``

Mr. Ahamd,
You wrote,in your aritcle and in your e-mails as well, that most Pakistanis do not have communication skills. I think it`s the other way round. I think most people who gave their opinions, responding to your article, used correct grmmar and humor as well. Whereas you, on the other, had been using ``average`` to compare two population subgroups, that is, Pakistanis and Americans. For example, in your article, you wrote many times ``an average American.....and average Pakistani``. If you ever had any schooling at all, you would know that ``average`` and ``mean`` kind of terminologies are used when you are comparing STATISTICS. When you compare attibutes such as ``an average American.....and average Pakistani``, you should use ``generally an American.....`` or ``usually an American.....``.
So the point is, of all the people who had been browsing chowk, I think you are the one who really needs help with his poor communication skills. Perhaps, if you stop using words like ``s h i t`` or ``crap``, you just might learn something about communicating with other people.
I think it`s never too late to enroll in English 101 in a community college in the neighborhood where you live, but I doubt that you`ll get admission.
