A good starting point. A reasonable speech. Peace between India and Pakistan is in the interest of the people of both countries. We surely do not need a sham democracy, and we definitely don`t want the reproduction of autocracy. We need to break our ties with our colonial legacy, and the rule of danda must be replaced by the rule of people in the true sense. Sincerely, Bilal Ahmad

The only disturbing part is bringing people to justice, apparently there are plans to charge NS with attmepted murder of the general. Vendatta and wich hunt lets the gini out. hope it is not the making of another zia.
The general has made the big mistake, revealing his assets, i hope he wont be stupid enough to ask others to follow. The general seem to have a martyr gene, hope it is kept under control by the ruler gene. If he asks others to follow, another coup is only days away.

All the right things were said. However, what is worrying is the absence of clear and concrete steps which have to be taken.
The process of confidence building is built on transparancy.
Transparnecy is sharing of substantial information.
We hope that within the next week a clear idea of who? has to do what? and by when?
best regards
Ijaz

The General made all the right noises. The sooner the Chief Executive ACTS as though the economy, not Kashmir, is central to the existence of Pakistan MAYBE there is a chance for this Nation State.

Overall it was a good speech, but we have heard these things before. I do join the COAS in his prayer. Accountability must be done but the key question is who will do it. Same is true for advisors. In the past as well targets could not be achieved because advisors were appointed on face value and very little time was spent in trying to find out who will be the right person.
My only advice to the general will be, that he can take as much time as he likes but the people picked up for the job should really be the right people, No cronies this time please.

It was an excellent speech.
General don`t cheapon your cause picking personal fights with Nawaz Sharef about landing of your aircraft.
IT is better to stay focused on your agenda and stay above the personal politics. This matter should not take the highest priority.
Please keep accountability for all military & civilain men who server under general zia as well?
Don`t appoint discredited individuals like Mian Azhar and Ijaz ul Haq. What they did they do when they had power?
What did they do to serve the cause of Pakistan.
We all like your program but your forgot education!
EDucation is key to the to any Nation?
We should have an educational system that we can be proud of and it is world class. We must have accountable system that may prodcue still good kids from the poor families unlike the current one where children of well to do and city folks could get education. Schools must annual exams where taecher keep or lose jobs base on the performance of kids as it is everywhere.
Please get focus on population control as well.
I am glad you mentioned the minorities. In recent we have treated our minorities very badly let us admit it especially christians & ahmedis.
It is such a shame when we subject a minority in Pakistan to worse acct. then anyother country does to its minorities. It is very unfair to Quadianis? What has being of any religion anything to do with being a good Pakistani?
We have had model minorities who have contributed to the betterment of Pakistan. Most of us living overseas feel ashamed when we see the forms that everyoen has to fill to get a passport?
Why are we turning a highly educated resource into a potential enemy? As long as the discriminatory langauge is there it makes us all feel bad and unlike what Jinnah had envisioned in Pakistan.
We need all of us united and working for the prosperity of Pakistan not divided by religion or regionalisms.
We all wish you the best of luck.

A wise start. All the right things were said.
But once again a word of caution. No personal
vendetta against the Sharifs and their supporters
is advised. We do not need a repeat of Z A Bhutto
in Punjab.
A lot of Pakistanis around the world wish the
General good luck. I hope that democracy is
reinstalled in a reasonable time frame. And 2 points more:
Just make sure that the Clinton visit happens
early next year.
And Pakistanis need the best
Ambassador in Washington that they can get.

The general very clearly realises that he is at a juncture of history, where it is a ``do or die`` situation for the country. There is no other way for the economy but to improve it. His goals seem to be logical and pragmatic. Though an extremely difficult objective under the present corrupted circumstances, but his prayer convinces me that he will be able to overcome the obstacles.
Good Luck our prayers are with you.

Please disregard my previous posting (Reply # 19), my revised and corrected version of the same should read as follows (I regret for my sloppiness):
According to the BBC, Pakistan is likely to be suspended from the Commonwealth. The secretary-general of the Commonwealth organization, Emeka Anyaoku, said that the heads of the 54 member nations would send ``a clear signal to Pakistan that undemocratic behaviour was unacceptable.``
It is indeed mind boggling why the Commonwealth organization failed to send ``a clear signal`` to Nawaz Sharif when he was violating all possible rights of the Pakistani citizens and using the coercive state apparatus for the consolidation of his dictatorial regime. Perhaps boneless and corrupt leaders like Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto, two champions of a sham democracy, are more acceptable to the British government (which covertly controls the Commonwealth organization), since they create a better environment for the uninterrupted transfer of wealth to the Western world.
Messrs. Anyaoku and Robin Cook: Is it really democracy that you care about? If yes, would you like to impose a Pakistani style of democracy in the United Kingdom?
Sincerely,
Bilal Ahmad

Congratulation Dearest Coup, But We Have Some Suggestions.
Heartiest congratulations at ur policies, these are the same targets that every loyal paki wants to do.
But we have some requests:-
i) U said in ur govt. plan that all these appointments shall be made purely on the basis of professional competence, merit and repute. At this point the whole nation will be with u but u need minuteness.
ii) We don not let the current religious leaders to play any role in the current situation, and we have a request to them ``Please be polite when u are delivering speech, heart and mind of any Muslim could not be conservative for anyone (either he is Muslim or not).
iii) As we all knows that we have a great respect and love for our coups, but we need the same responce from them in our normal life.
iv) We need the scrutiny of our all leaders, the previous, religious and ex-army leaders too,.....as we are reading surprising commences at the current situation.
AND AT THE VERY LAST...........
Its my personal humble request that(I am also a citizen of Pakistan) please let
Mr.Nawaz Sharif to clarify his self from the current charge or charges (if u are putting it on him).
So, wish u good luck in the way duilding new Pakistan.
Everyone from us will be with u if u will be with us.
May Allah the great give us courage, integrity and unflinching loyalty for our precious
home-land.

Anybody else notice that the prayer contains no reference to ``humility`` as a desired virtue? It is conspicuous by its absence!
Sincerity, honesty, integrity, vision, discrimination (``perceive the truth from the false``), wisdom, courage, and strength are all wonderful qualities that I`m sure will serve the General well. But in a position of absolute power, it is humility which is absolutely vital...

Good Speech. Echoing some of the concerns voiced before, speeches to follow (and hopefully plans to follow) will focus on developing infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and religious bigotry, as it affects not just minorities, but women as well. His end note on his personal accountability has great symbolic value and was refreshing to hear. Although, with fear and political cynicism, embedded in our psyches, I want the focus to shift quickly (even in end prayers) from ``I`` to ``we`` - to a more meaningful and concrete ``we``.

Well, in my opnion Gen.Perviz should `ve addressed
the nation in one language of his choice and translation of his speach should `ve televised by someone else in the other language if it was necessory,, it was really below his position
to act like that,, i am really estonished nobody from his advisores or close people told him about it, after this i `ve some serious doubts about the future of Pakistan, cas if a person doesn`t `ve even that much sence, how the hell he is gonna run
a country,,.ahhh.... i am disoppointed..

There is nothing new in the kashmere front. General PM was the first to admit in a BBC interview that pak troops are on the indian soil in what he termed as `aggressive patroling``.
Political, moral and diplomatic support for the mujahideen, the general says will continue, I have heard this some where befor, was it at the heights of kargil. no i was not there.
The deescalation of troops are only along the international border, well they were never escalated. Remember the aircraft wreckage, it was on no mans land, it took several days to establish where the wreckage was, obviously there was no escalation.
How i wished for a proposal for descalation along the LOC.
