Keeping in mind the header of this article, I would agree that the New Chowk`s outlook is very cute and well-organized(colors and etc).
I happened to test the responses on the right side and in doing so, could not agree more with Reply # 2. Well Said, Reply # 2.

Oh forgive me! How can I forget Biju Bawara twice? (I did a more detailed interact #8 on the Let`s talk about Bollywood board.) But I did say it was a partial list, didn`t I?
Jagdeep #14:
Tamas? Can you give some detail?
Pervez # 12:
Rudaali deserves a mention, but tell me more about Disha.

NISHANT (Shyam Benegal) and AAKROSH (Govinda Nihalani) were good off beat movies. I know nothing about GULDASTA.
*grin * at the risk of this turning out like a scene from a classic comedy, please return my respectful thanks to your `friend`.
Sameer #9:
I drew a blank on Sonu Nigam. Tell me about him.

Oh, keep them coming. What of Ash or Nandita? Some sober Chowkies don`t have time to check out gossip, na.

It is strange that nobody has mentioned TAMAS

On 4, I suggest you extend the principle to all military expenditures. We can then ask Clinton on ways to utilize the resulting budget surplus in both countries (since he seems to have had some practice with that in the US).

wow, a funky article again on chowk?
I have a few additional suggestions:
a. place a twenty year moratorium on marital sex with procreation in mind. all intimate encounters must be casual and gratuitous. if you want kids... adopt. get down the population and stop people staring up their own proverbials in one fell swoop.
b. have all members of any political or bureaucratic organisation on either side of the border swap children. permanently.
c. have the private ownership of arms punishable by frontal lobotomies and ritual defenstration with a blunt spoon.
d. set up soup kitchens that serve up ham sandwiches, beef burgers, salad and lite beer across both nations, with the obvious proviso, that if it placates your religeous sensibilities... pay for it.
and thats before we get serious. ;-)

I agree with you.
Action speaks louder than words.
On one hand, Indians are electing BJP. The rise of BJP is in no way related to Pervez Musharraf Government. It started asserting itself many years back with demolition of Babri Mosque. Riots in Bombay etc. And still it is the largest party in India. Pakistanis don`t elect them. Even before Kargil it was the largest party.
India is increasing its military budget and has increased recently to 3 billion dollar more.
Vajpayee disregarding the wishes of pakistani people is harping the slogan that he cannot talk with dictatorship. What India is doing with all Arab kingdoms. Why India licked the boots of Russia, a dictatorship for 40 years.
And everyday India is threatening Pakistan, and attacking on line of control.
Lets watch Indian movies and listen Indian songs. But does listening Indian song and watching Indian movies, makes a person blind to reality?
As far as culture of Pakistan. People are harping with full force it is an Indian culture.
Lets analyse. Culture of Sind closer to Bombay. So is India ready to give up Bombay so that these same culture people can live together. Baluchistan, historically and Geographically is more close to Oman and other Arab countries, so unite it with them. NWFP, historically is associated with Afghanistan. So unite it with them. And Punjab East and West are together. Is India ready to give up East Punjab to Unite with West Punjab. If culture is so much harped, what culture you are talking about. Bollywood culture in this region is hardly, 20-30 years old. And that is a Filmi culture.
Moreover, India has never been United, except under British. Before that there were independent regions, self administered giving allegiance to King.
Also the notion that it is a Pakistani propanganda forum is wrong. On a web board, all kind of people put their thoughts. The irony is that Pakistanis, have differing point of view.
And all Indians apeak the same language. Whether it is a justification of brutality in Kashmir for last 10 years, or supporting BJP Government. Do they think we are from Sikkim. Or as they demand loyalty from Nepal. They now demand loyalty from people on this board, otherwise it is a propanganda forum.
Twist of Indian mind is beyond comprehension.

temporal, Sameer, et al,
An interesting list of the Indian movie paraphernalia. I wonder whether failing to mention one of the best actors (from acting point of view), and the FILM that catapulted him, was deliberate or unintentional. If you have not figured out yet, I mean Bharat Bhusan and Baiju Bawara. Baiju Bawara is still considered to be a
classic - the acting of BB and MK, the melodious score by Naushad, and, yes, lyrics.
I am in a dilemma (though not ``torn``) between MI and M-e-A, both classics. However, I am leaning towards MI. The plot so realistic and yet so original (as to M-e-A, you know we studied in elementary schools about the sort of shananigans going on between the Mughul princes and their aides-could not remember a better word- behind the palace arches; do not think they had curtains, for when you are the rulers, hack, what shame and who are you ashamed of, nay!). The musical score (Naushad again!)of MI was superb, though I love that qawali competition song of M-e-A (Naushad once more!). The acting all around, esp. Nargis and Sunil Dutt, was excellent (remember that character Kanahiyalal!). To top that all was the direction and editing by one and only-nay, save RK-Mehboob. Besides lack of originality of plot, M-e-A lacked humor-evrybody is sort of posturing, too much mijaz and no hasiN you know. Overall, thogh, will agree the choice between the two is marginal, a toss-up! But, then, when I see Madhubala in that `Pyar kiya to darna kya` sequence, I am in a dilemma again.
Kant...
PS: A DVD version of Nikah is recently released. It`s an old one. Agha Salma`s acting and singing (TG, no playback) are excellent. Worth watching if you have not seen it.

Veeresh: My man, I am with you all the way. I think you have written an `interesting` and a provocative essay.
I am particularly in favour of your suggestion #9. But I feel that the agreement should be on ``home developed``, because we have begged, borrowed or stolen huge amounts of technology from elsewhere. The bombs, the rockets are ``domestically and indigenously`` made but were not //developed// locally. They must be banned. And I offer myself as a neutral observer, a supervisor of categorizing armament. Now, please don`t ask ``for whom would I be neutral``?

A friend asks me to mention ``Nishant`` as one of the classics, and feels that you can`t leave out ``Aakrosh``.
The best Pakistani film of all previous and future times, arguably, and unquestionably, will remain ``Guldasta``.

Temporal: I am impressed with your selection and the information you have about so many well known personalities in the film industry. Likewise, I also try to know as much as possible about this area. I am sure you will agree about some of the best indian movies were produced during the eighties which we both forgot to mention. The movies like Mandi, Bazzar, Lal Mirchain? and Manthan by a gang of very talented artists including Naseeruddin Shah, Farouk Sheikh, Shabana Azmi, Om puri, khulbhushan and Smita Patil. I like your selection of Sahib bibi aur ghulam, Mughal-e-Azam and Mother India. I would actually like to see these movies reproduced because they have such powerful stories. A remake of Mother India with Shabana Azmi playing the role of Mother and Naseeruddin Shah instead of Rajkumar or Sunil Dutt would be excellent. It is intersting to note that Madhubala still wins many surveys when asked,``who is/ was the most beautiful lady in the movies. Her acting in Mughal-e-Azam while singing, ``hamain kash tum se mohabbat na hoti`` is memorable.
My all-time best dance in a movie would be Sridevi`s in Nagina, ``Main teri dushman dushman to mera``.
Two well known Karachites would be Sippy of Sholay fame and Sadhana of Dulha Dulhan and Chalia fame. You should see these two beautiful movies of Raj Kapoor.
Here is a quiz for you; what is the real name of Sonu Nigam and what is his background?
Thanks again for responding.
