Calendarical Sense

For long now I have felt .... that if there was to be another Unifier for Pakistan other than Islam it has to be Cricket .... however like the coveted religion, Cricket too has become a source of Controversy .....

Pakistan`s ignonimous defeat in the 1999 World Cup final ... and their dismal perfomance eversince

has taken away from me something that I had long cherished ... and I am sure most Pakistanis cherished .... the national pride which we all feel when the commentator says ``Pakistan wins`` ...

Last year was particularly tough for me because I went through a nasty break up ... but what added to my depression and I constantly felt .. was Pakistan`s failing perfomance in Cricket ...

Chowkies` indifference towards cricket is Most displeasing ..... It is the best game in the whole wide world ......

What does cricket has to do with your problems, you ask? In one word: Kashmir!

Think about it.

Shoot out to the valiant Kashmiris in their Historic struggle for the right of self determination .....

and in passing shoot out to the valiant Pakistani team which has done us proud in the last 2 games in Sharjah

I hope most, if not all, of us know that the struggle of the Kashmiris to free themselves from the non-muslim rulers goes back to the 1930s /at the very least/.

Do read Sheikh Abdullah`s ``Aatish-e-Chinar``, an autobiography published in the 1980s. I should really like to know how many of us, engaged in the discussions on Kashmir, have read that autobiography as well as the history of the struggle of the Kashmiris to break out of the shackles of being a chattle of the descendents of one of the most crooked viziers of Ranjit Singh.

I have tried whenever I have gotten the chance to bring up the Kashmir ISSUE here in the US .....

and I hope people will one day ... and that day will be soon inshallah realize the dream of the Kashmiris ..... to be free of Indian Oppression ...
