Cigarettes kill millions of people each year. I fully agree that we should ban smoking in Pakistan. While we are at it, we could take away their guns too, leaving us a safe, smoke-free country. I agree that a military government can and should do this, before the scumbags (politicians) make a come-back.

Great Statistics,
May be the jihadists could be exempted from the smoking ban, they are unlikely to be part of the statistics you are quoting. On the way to heaven, let them at least have a few puffs of joy.
The statistics, the costs to the society etc. derived from the west are totally irrelevant to pakistan. The old and the sick are allowed to die in peace. Nearly 30% of the US medical expenses are on people in the last four days of their lives.
Let the poor bast//##ds smoke their way to the ground.

SMOKING
- The Chief Executive is a big time smoker himself. I would rather that he keep smoking than start fiddling with the nuclear trigger. This might happen if he decides to quit cold turkey.
- In Pakistan smoking among women is probably on the rise. Also cigarettes are the principal vehicle for substance abuse such as heroin and charas.
- I think the ban on alcohol has to go.

And oxygen is toxic.
The reason for alcohol and tobacco to be grouped separately from other deleterious substances, like desi ghee and red meat, is the fact that alcohol and tobacco are addictive. While red meat and desi ghee might be appetizing, there has been no conclusive evidence to suggest that they are indeed addictive. Physiologically speaking, of course. If you are going to present an argument, at least follow the standards of logic.
Apples and oranges for crying out loud.

great statistics and article; however there is a choice....as concious adults we should have the choice to smoke or not. I agree that underage smoking should be clamped on but at 18 if we can elect a goon to office then we should surely be allowed to kill ourselves if we chose. There should definately be smoking and non-smoking sections hereby indicating a choice...unlike the US where one feels like a pariah. Today tobacco, tomorrow alcohol? red meat is bad for us as is desi ghee...I dont see a campaign to eradicate production of those two. the world is pretty ridiculous, can we not make it even more so?
