Asif:

Two queries.

1: Who is a good Muslim?

2: Is a life long good human being who is a non-Muslim better or worse than a life long bad Muslim in the eyes of Allah?

regards

temporal...good point

judgement lies with our Creator not with human beings.

That I believe is the biggest problem all religious people face in this century. We all feel we are better than others due to our respective religions. In the end it is your actions and beliefs that will be decided by Allah.

Who knows....

* *5.If a man has bad (sinful) actions (‘amal) so be it, but Allah forbid that his Belief (‘aqeedah) is bad. * *

So Sinful amals are OK as long as you belong to the ``big league``? very interesting indeed!!

and What is a bad Belief?

To tell you the truth, I did not read further. This one gem was enough for me.

Do you have a problem saying zikar, roza, namaz, etc. What is this dhikr, dhikar, rubbish.

Hazrat Jamat Ali Shah looks like a buddy of Hazrat Aurangzeb Alamgir.

Get a life Naqshbandi.

Answer to your two questions which have full force & authority of the Quran-al Hakeem.

1)Allah alone is the judge.

2)Those who believe in One God & do good deeds have been praised by Allah and those who profess belief in One God yet are evil to mankind have been condemned & warned of Allah`s disfavour.

I`m glad you asked this question and I thank you for it.

``Adl hai Fatir e Husti ka azal say dastoor

Muslim aeen hua kaafir tho milay hoor o qusoor``

A L L A M A IQBAL

``Justice & Fairness is the Hallmark of the One who is Nature incarnate.

If a kafir follows the tenets of Islam then he can expect to be rewarded with hoors & luxurious dwellings``

thanks for the rememberances (zikr). There was an excellent talk at Harvard last week about sufism and Islam, speaking about Rumi in particular. The major point was that sufism can be best understood once placed in the context of Islam, even though the message is universal. i think these 40 sayings reflect that theme.

Temporal:

My take is that ``good deeds`` is like a vector (containing both a `direction` and a `magnitude`). Without direction, the magnitude of your work may be aimless...like dust before the wind. Without effort, you`re in the same place as you started, though you may be staring in the right direction. No sense in arguing which is better, when neither is any good.

As for who is a good/bad Muslim, Allah knows best...but He does give some clues in the Quran, ie furqaan (criterion).

tibor:

a little quick to judge, huh? only time can tell what`s gibberish or not. there are others with more literary depth that will agree with many of the sayings (in fact, those with more depth probably would agree!) It makes you wonder why Rumi is the best selling poet in North America of all time--many people, muslims and non-muslims, are finding some truth in it.

GFM:

agree with your point.

If Kaaba falls to ruins, it would make the task easier for love,

To raise another castle and bring forth a new design.

It is high time that we construct afresh a new order,

By cleansing our heart and remoulding our mind.

-Iqbal (also a Sialkotia)

Mysterious, simple but glorious is the history of Ka`aba;

Its beginning is Ismail, its end Hussain.

-Iqbal

Why are there curtains between the Creator and His creatures?

Drive out from the church the elders of the church,

I am weary of these mosques built in marbles,

Build me another abode of humbler mud.

-Iqbal

I`m dredging up my memories of O-level Islamiat here, but isn`t there a surah stating that `The Best of you is he who is of most service to your fellow man`?

And hey, nothing about chopping off the head of a child who disliked a fruit that Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) liked!

f-k #7:

My query #1 was a necessary prelude to the main query #2. It was specifically addressed to Asif as the author of this article.

I do thank you for proffering a reply.

As a general statement I concur with your views expressed in 2) in reply #7.

However, my query “Is a life long good human being who is a non-Muslim better or worse than a life long bad Muslim in the eyes of Allah?” remains essentially un-answered.

rgds,

t

At the blessed Sufi`s saying of

``The Holy Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam ,after veiling himself from this world, is, without doubt, alive and still upon his Prophethood (in his blessed grave)...``

I am in confusion. I recall being told that Hazrat Abubakr(RA), on hearing of the Hazrat Omar(RA) disputing the Prophet(SA)`s death had said

``For those who worship Muhammad, he is dead. But for those who worship Allah, He is alive and always will be.``

Either the Prophet is human and dead. Or he is not human and still alive. Which one is it? No wonder the Wahabis and the Naqshbandis have had a few, shall we say, minor, differences!

the sayings are a treasure. Can anyone take bayyah from a sufi buzurg? I`d be honoured to get a reply from the author himself.

Please keep up the excellent work.

Saying No. 5 instructs us to run away from those with bad beliefs in the same way as we should run from lepers. Not only is the analogy flawed but so is the message. We shouldn`t run from lepers because lepers are also God`s creation and need our love and compassion, perhaps more so than non-lepers. In any event, leprosy is one of the least communicable diseases known to man.

At a more abstract level, this saying is a perfect illustartion of the dangers of ignorance. Go sit with people who have bad thoughts my friend, you might learn a lot. After all, how true is your faith if you have to constantly protect it from the rest of the world? The great saints have been those who have embraced the imperfections of this world, not those who have closeted themselves away in a cave. As for me, I rest my faith in the belief that only by constantly testing my thoughts against all that the world has to offer can I be sure that I am not on the wrong path. Admittedly, I am not out there hugging lepers, but I only have admiration, not contempt, for those who do.

FROM ANOTHER SUFI,

Under pressure from the moderates of pakistan, the extremists constitute only 2%, the Ataturk and Sufi inspire CE has announced the following. From dawn

Blasphemy law: Old FIR procedure restored

ISLAMABAD, May 16: Chief Executive Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday announced to restore the old procedure for lodging of FIR with the station house officer (SHO) under the blasphemy law. ``As it was the unanimous demand of the Ulema, Mashaikh and the people, therefore, I have decided to do away with the procedural change in registration of FIR under the blasphemy law,`` said Gen Musharraf while talking to reporters at the PAF Base here on his return from Turkmenistan.

//////

The above law operates very much like the honour killing laws, the killing is declared as blasphemy related and no action is taken by the police. Poor sufis, let them rest at least in their death. I hope you are the same asif who defended the killing of a boy because he didnot like the fruit prefered by you know who.
