I appreciate your appreciation of Karachi. And you are right.

Basically the nature of Karachi started changing in 1986, not at the hands of Jihadist interestingly.

Karachi was a bastion of Jamat-e-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan till 1986 and was a very peaceful cosmopolitan city. When for the first time our dear Indian`s favorite Altaf Hussain started politics of hatred and ethnicity. (And as like attracts like, he is much liked by Indians). That started the Klashinkov culture and killings.

I have heard that things have changed during last one year.

But Karachi will never lose its cosmopolitan character, hopefully and continue to attract people from all over Pakistan and abroad.

In Pakistan, there is an area called Kafiristan and people are called Kafir. I think they are Kalash people. It has no wrong connotation and may be (which I don`t know and have not seen) in the text book in that area.

Kamzaat by the way is not an English word. And it is not necessary to say something. Actions speak louder than words as the saying goes.

Indian Embassy in Ankara is located on this major road/ avenue called the Jinnah Cadavesi ....named after Mr Jinnah....

Pakistan reciprocates its friendship for Turkey ..

there are countless monuments dedicated to Ataturk including one in Larkana and one in Lahore ... there are countless schools named after Ataturk ... and a whole residential block of Garden Town Lahore is named after him ... I believe that the headoffices of Jamaat e Islami are located there but I am not sure.

Turkey has had 4 coups ... well now we are going into the negative stuff....

Last year`s Turkey Republic Day celebrations were attended by 2 head of the states of foreign countries... the Pakistani and the Israeli head of the states...

It would have been funny watching Rafiq Tarrar the Bearded President actually listen to the slogans of ``Secularism is here to stay``....

The truth is that a lot of beardos in Pakistan hold Ataturk in great respect ...even if some of them done ....

Eventhough my ancestry is S.Indian, I dont care much for that food. If I ever want to go to Pakistan, the main reason would be for the cuisine. I`m not sure if you are Indian & Pakistani, but you are really blessed to have travelled (& eaten) at both sides of the border.

dost-mittar-yaar: Chole had been Rawalpindi`s specialty for a longtime. There is a place in Saddar, Rawalpindi, named Jahangira which must be the biggest open-air cafe in Rawalpindi-Islamabad. They are famous for roast chicken and chholey curry with raita and naan. Couple of years ago they opened another restaurant in Islamabad.

One of the problem I noticed has to do with using hydrogenated oils in cooking in Pakistan. In winter and in places like Rawalpindi-Islamabad open-air restaurants, the oil freeses quickly because of its higher freezing point. I wish they quit using hydrogenated oils in cooking. Over time each city develops specialities like Murgh Pulao in Lyallpur, kababs and haleem of Karachi, sri-paye and fried fish of Lahore. Islamabad althogh being a new city, has already known for few of its cuisines like balti gosht, chappli kababs and jalfrezi chicken. Then in the evenings you can enjoy kashmiri tea with gajar ka halwa all over the places.

It is interesting how each city develops certain markers of its distinct culture. In Pakistan, during Basant or any kite flying competition, there is always competitions between Karachi and Lahore made shrp threads (called manjhas or dore).

BTW, I think best chholey in NY are at Jackson Diner in Jackson Height, particularly over the weekends.

Actually ``KamZaat`` is two words. So shouldn`t the short be K.Z ?

Interesting that you`ve heard this being widely used in India. I`ve been in India since i was born 27 years ago and believe me, I`ve never heard anybody using it on me. If anyone called me with that name, I would have been justified and appreciated for breaking the teeth and kicking the ass of the caller.

BTW, do people in pakistan ``love`` to use ``K for Kafir``? I mean, are they so enthusiastic about it?
