I think what Sadhana is saying(with her usual thoughtfulness) is that our social wisdom is not on par with our scientific achievements. We screwed the planet`s ecology and the environment - do we also have to mess with its evolution?

You mention eugenics - you must also mention the medical and socio-ethical issues that are tied to this field (and it will be a while before the third world debates about them, if at all). Where do you stop with eugenics - you pick the color of your skin, the color of your eyes, your features, resistance to known diseases... what are you trying to create - Hitler`s dream race???

They are also known as Kalash people.

As far as my memory goes, they have good dances. Their pictures can be seen on tourism posters. etc.

As far as Nuristan, that is possible considering some PIOUS rulers in past, but I have no knowledge of it.

That article came from Dawn. I brought the Kafir bit in response to one Sarwari`s self-righteous ignoratn comment about India`s treatment of its minorities. And Pakistani`s here donot go about saying K for Kafir. Only some Urdu text back home does, according to a Dawn columnist.

Sadhanji! ``Disturbing``?!?

While I can see many dangers in the practice of eugenics, I can think of nothing more wonderful than the ability to save a life through genetic screening -- in this case not even risking another!

And I can think of many worse reasons for having babies that go uncondemned.

In the end, every new advance in medical science will being with it thequestion of whether we may play God. I suspect there were the same concerns regarding blood tranfusions when they were first performed. They was, certainly, opposition to the use of anaethesia in childbirth (by the Catholic Church - no less!) because it contradicted the prophecy that ``the Woman would be made t osuffer during childbirth``.

Ah well, maybe that`s another issue altogether.

I know of no major religion that displays outright contempt and bigotry for any other religion. They may put down or dismiss an earlier religion to emphasize and contrast it with the former -- but that is the extent.

Also, I believe what you are alluding to is the FAULTY of the practitioners of those religions. Hardly the fault of the gospel itself.

b) Maybe the Turkish-Pakistani similarities were why the Turkish PM SNUBBED a Paki invitation to visit the country on his way to India. And maybe that`s why he joined ABV in moaning about ``cross-border terrorism``.
