all i can think of after reading these vitrolic, bitter, useless posts is that i now understand that wars are indeed started by men. not misunderstood men, or silly men, or even well meaning men, but men who cannot see beyond their own petty interests and insecurities and feel compelled to colour all possible experiences with them.
a good person is a good person regardless of what religion they are. this has been said by others on this board, but those who pore over their computers in the vain hopes of finding yet another opportunity to prove that they read more papers and are better informed, have failed to develop on this theme despite having been given the choice to do so.
this tells me they are not interested in the issue itself, but merely in projecting themselves as good debaters, better hindus, magnificent muslims...etc etc. in such a situation my question is `who are you strutting around for?`, all the women seem to have deserted their positions out of disgust, and perhaps also the realization that this isn`t even a real battle. this is just a bunch of little boys sublimating childhood war games into adult interactions. `are you doing it for Brahma, or Allah, or Skipinder the Punjabi Kangaroo?` are you doing it for each other? are you driven by a need for approval from other idiots?
umairr...interesting post on the need for education to enable people to interpret the Koran themselves. should all muslim children be taught arabic then? otherwise how would you iron out the differences in interpretation?

I believe Hamidm`s post was sarcastic though in bad taste. We all know Hamidm`s real views very well.

Hamidm,
Honestly I really like your views on things in general. Unlike most pseudo-intellectuals, you denounce the status quo based on certain undeniable facts.
Understanding and educating one`s own self is continuous process however, as so many people on chowk tell me everyday. The study of Kemalism has perhaps set you on the right track but you see, Kemalism is purely a political ideology. Maybe its time to read Averroes?

Asma Jahangir is probably a true humanist and a patriot. Her work for the minorities in Pakistan is outstanding. My personal memory of her however is from her appearance on the TV show ``Sarhad: a dialogue between Pakistani and Indian intellectuals`` in which not only did she hold her own against the Indians ... but clearly came out the more convincing one in the end .. especially on the Kashmir issue.
Jiye Asma Jahangir!
Cowasjee for the President
Bapsi Sidwah for Prime Minister

thank you for that sabin - muun ki baat chin lee.
pullu,
remember you said ``Life for Men ought to be simple.. Khana,Peena,Sona aur Mona.``?
you could use the interacts on this board to prove why that ought to be so.

Hamid,
Name calling is uniquely Pakistani, a society where the entire relational minefield of matrimony can be thrown asunder by uttering the same word three times, one can expect a lot of name calling. The latest to fall victim to this is `sadna` who has quitt the chowk due to RAW accusations. You can call Asma CIA agent, could have been worse if it were RAW.
Then again lineage is another preoccupation of the pakistanis, tracing lineage to Ghouri is great, some has claimed as close relative of the prophet. These are important to pakistanis, so Asma is of loose morals and doubtful lineage also is a slander.
Asma is hated by the jihadists, she is against homour killing. The CE has shown his support for honour killing by inviting the killer for a phot opportunity with him. At last Asma had to lead a peace delegation to india. Peace delegation headed by woman, comprising only of women, by some one hated by the jihadists and the military. That sums up the priority of peace by the pak collective and there are head in the sand pakistanis talking about peace.
The article I posted is a good one, I should repeat it when ever a ylh utters the `` have you been to pakistan` line.
I know the chowk pakistanis hate Asma, she talks of things that many pakistanis hate to accept. Pakistan as a nation is in a terrible state, euthanesia is legal for countries. Time to think of 3NT.

CRIES OF YLH,
YLH had been asking me to stop my posts. Temporal at times have resorted to name calling. Otheres have said that this is pakistani board.
To understand these outbursts, one has to know the medium. Internet is an isolating technology, one can search for views similar to yours from a smogasboard of ideas and down load them and feel that your views are shared by many. There is no need to discuss or debate these ideas, sitting alone and chatting with a few can create the illusion of acceptance, discussions and conflicts can be avoided. It is this selection process that makes the internet lonely. It is like wearing electronic blinkers, to follow one own prejudices, appetites and parochial views, with out the mess of conversation and debate.
Types of YLH and temporals have at last located this heaven, they do not want their views challenged, the few on the chowk have defined their universe, devoid of any information that is in conflict with theirs. No Asma Jahangirs, no jay to quote her, what a bliss. This insightful understanding of internet i read in a news paper in Sydney, Australia.

urstruly,
this is my theory. i invite you to bring your considerable knowledge and expertise to bear on it..
the rhetorical cyclone caused by 190 (minus the number of relevant interacts) men breaking wind out of the wrong hole at the same time sucked my pacifier rudely out of my mouth and into somebodys elses ass. pinpointing it`s whereabouts is complicated because so many possible hosts are displaying the same symptoms (emotional constipation, verbal diarrhea etc).
i must now go about retrieving it for posterity from the fortunate posterior so i can go back to my apathetic sleep, would you mind terribly if i asked you to bend over? not that i`m suggesting it`s you..it`s just one has to start somewhere.

``Irani girls cover themselves completely during the Olympics.Moroccan girls where bathing suits during Olympics. Pakistani girls are in between. All three are Muslims.``
If you say so. All I want to know is which ones will keep us company alongwith the houris and the ghulmans in afterlife?

If you always find your lost pacifiers in such places then the reason for the bitter taste in your mouth is quite understandable.

Re: Asma Jehangir
Some time back (a couple of years) I was in Pakistan talking to a retired General and the topic of Asma Jehangir came up. Now, this man is a pretty devout Muslim--says his prayers fairly regularly, always has been a teetotaller, etc--and he said that she had to be the bravest and most principled Pakistani alive. Several other retired Army officers present agreed with him.
So, Ms. Jehangir has her admirers within the Army but, in all honesty, I must admit that he was of a generation before the current generals, when they still taught ball-room dancing and compulsory equitation at PMA, and the situation may be somewhat different now.

Welcome to Chowk.
Such articulation and eloquence!
Yaar maza aagaya! Like the rare forbidden fluids the ‘taste’ lingered long after I read the posts. Such pure joy to read unadulterated vitriol hurled with abandon none. And yet so focused and controlled. You have a way with words. Welcome once again and visit the gali kochays regularly. There is a dearth of eloquence.
And if you write, do contribute.
