Beware of Ariel Morons and Protect Your Children!

AAM-UL-FEEL; THE YEAR OF THE ELEPHANT

All day today I have been thinking about Mohammed Rami ad-Dorra. For some of us it might be just another name; the 8 year old who was murdered right in front of his father and the whole world three days ago.


Please forgive my jay walking today; I cannot focus my mind on anything. I have no idea where to start this post. The focus keeps on shifting from Mohammad to Commander Laila Khalid to firefly Nada Al Husseini; George Habash to Yasser Arafat; Hamas to Fatah; Amal to Hizballah; Popular Front to PLO; Yasmin Shaheed to Yehya Ayyash Shaheed.


I also think of the little birds like Mohammed; the Children of Paradise; Our 8 or 9 year old Ghazi Salahuddins, our Tipu Shaheed,and our Ali Asghars of this time. Who could have thought that these little Ababeels could bring the Abraha of this time to his knees with their slingshots?


Our little angels! we believe in you. Now that you are closer to Him, please tell Him not to judge us all from the few among us who can blow their trumpets and drums louder than our voices. They tell me that your Jihad is useless; it has nothing to do in this day and age. They tell me that, ``it is economy stupid``. May be I am stupid. Perhaps I ask stupid questions. When I ask them how many dollars it costs to buy freedom they laugh at me. When I ask them which stock exchange deals in ``self-determination`` they wink at each other. When I ask them which ATM dispenses off ``self-respect to a nation`` they look the other way. May be I am stupid.


They tell me His word is old and useless now. It should be discarded just like their old shoes and clothes that they throw out in the United Way canister on a sunny weekend. I wonder if they have thrown their mothers and fathers in those canisters too since they are old and fragile and useless too?


My fallen angels! my Mujahids! Tell Him that Abraha has brought his army again. Is it the year of the Elephant again?

It was touching write-up. I wasn`t sure if you were quoting someone or you were expressing your emotions. The latter point seemed more valid here as it affirmed the reader of your juvenile traits :-) On a serious note, it was indeed a thoughtful post.

I was similarly affected when I saw the picture of the little boy minutes before he was killed.

And I also couldn`t stop thinking about him and wondering what the world has come to.

And then I saw another picture of a two year old girl, dead in the arms of her father, thanks to the Israeli army.

And now I hear the ``Ariel Moron`` called Barak has issued an ultimatum to the victims of Israel.

And the US and the rest of the world watch the show.

Another Bosnia? Ethnic cleansing in the name of war.

It makes me sick.

Ariel Morons wear subtler garbs too. consumer-``choice``, ``national identity``, ``religious sentiment`` are their shields, while all they want is more control, more power.

Surely there are more than just a few. this whole world looks like it has given up its soul to them.
who seems to care anyway? people just want more fries, more ketchup, more burgers, more cars, more insurance...

Well one more time despite the fact that who started this bloodshed, all US politicians and media pundits are trying to save Israel`s face and blaming it entirely on Arafat. Barak is going to every cable and network station to give head job and propagate lies. Things are hopeless for palestinians, the ultimatum will not be accepted by them - which means more bloodshed for them.

If only US like many other countries of UN tried

to be fair, we would have chance.

Ordinary people will believe whatever media says unless it effects them personaly. I think greatest weapon arabs have is their oil,

with it they can crash markets and send their message to ordinary people.

Comment: Udayakumar`s piece is both timely and commendable. A mere protest, though necessary, is not sufficient to deal with the ruthless behavior of the Israeli zionists who control the mind, body and spirit of the Israeli state (particularly its means of coercion). We live in an unjust world and normally unintendedly condone its many faces. We can never protect ``our children`` (Udayakumar`s phrase) as long as we virtually fail to see (and show) the bigger picture in relatively normal times.

This article reflects an urge in us humans to symbolize the evil, so that we can beat it. This urge also prevents many among us from seeing value in Jinnah’s leadership and value of Gandhi’s spiritualism in politics of the day, because we get busy in beating. It converts passions of people like YLH into anger and frustration. It creates negative chain reactions in people like Rsaxena, Krashid and Jay. These passions and creativity can be directed into productive use, but the unfortunate result of creating such symbols is that for a long time to come, the productive use of passion and creativity is no longer possible, and the people suffer.

I feel sorry for the author’s sadistic sarcasm, if that is what it was in creating “Ariel Moron”. I would add that Ariel Moron is an urge. Ariel Moron is not a personality; therefore the author has failed to create a symbol. This urge is present in all of us, including the author. The author should ask the Creator why She did not spare him and made him into a super human. The author proves that he also possesses the urge by expressing his anger in this article (“Ariel Morons have an obsession with …. other such sh *t”; “Ariel Morons are bloodthirsty”; “At times, some places got a few more Ariel Morons than other places.”; “Nazi Germany, for instance, had a lot more of them than other places a few decades ago.” Is the author implying that there were more Jews in Nazi Germany, that would be a very sadistic way of expressing anger).

Allow me to point to interesting T.V. interviews, of two leaders who are directly affected. Ms. Hannan Ashrawi in this morning’s (Sunday Oct. 8) ABC’s This Week was very cool and very effective. She told that Ariel Sharon took 3,000 armed troops along on his Visit while another 2,000 waited outside (boy, he must be scared of unarmed worshippers). George Will who was persistently asking Ms. Ashrawi questions, went silent – literally dumb-founded. The statement Ariel Sharon was making with armed personnel in front of unarmed civilians (worshippers ??) was completely lost. The armed personnel against unarmed civilians NEVER win. Jalianwala Bagh and the Satyagrah events proved the correctness of this doctrine in the past. Unfortunately, some on Chowk who support the courageous and unarmed Palestinians in this scenario also dismiss Satyagrah and value of spiritualism in politics.

Interestingly, when Sam Donaldson and George Will questioned Simon Peres in the same program. Simon Peres answered that in five years (1940-45)in Europe 15-million people were killed, then in one year the peace was restored. The peace in Europe can be seen and felt in Europe, today. According to Simon Peres, this happened because the peace-process NEVER stopped. I believe the peace process in Europe first took over the anger and hatred, and then brought freedom and economic prosperity. Can we not do the same in South Asia? My answer is yes, if the need for leaders like Jinnah and Gandhi is felt and recognized and not symolized by hanging their pictures, if YLH’s passion is converted into productive use, if creativity of Rsaxena, Krashid and Jay is not wasted in negative reactions. Above all if present historians like Udayshankar do not loose perspective. The historians have a responsibility. That is why I am supporting, and have offered to underwrite Isa Daudpota and Foqia Khan’s budget.

ANATOMY OF A “RUBBER BULLET”

Dear Readers,

Please do not be beguiled by the term “Rubber Bullet” and “Lass Lethal Riot Control Ammo.” . The issue of Rubber Bullets that are being fired upon unarmed Palestinian, with assault rifles is a very serious matter. Keep in mind that the RBs that Israeli army is using is not exactly the same as that is used in other parts of the world to control riots and animal population etc. These bullets have same warhead as that of regular bullets except that it is coated with rubber. The air drag thus reduces the velocity but since it is fired with assault rifles using assault rifle propellants it translates into nothing. This is all to satisfy the Human Rights people and Inspectors from the Association of Coffin Thieves i.e. UN.
