Aisha,
I have stomach cramps... that was hilarious. Your attack on the Inside story is so justified. Remember the time Indians made a ISI major out of a poor waiter of Marriot?

My very dear Ms Aisha Fayyazi Sarwari#: 19
I very certainly ``do not want you to start about the Indian film Industry``
Please ask your doctor that he should not recommend watching Hindi movies to you. (I am sure you do not watch them by your own will) Please also tell your caretakers to lock you whenever you get an urge to watch Hindi movies.
``I went out to rent Mission Kashmir and since it wasn`t there,so got FIZA and REFUGEE. My intent was to understand the perception of the Indian mind.... and I have been boiling over since then.``
I repeat, do not watch Indian movies!! (BTW, by now you must be fully boiled, stuff yourself in Allu-paranthha)

Ms Versey:
Sorry to learn that you were fired from your job at Midday(?) Magazine(?). I hope you will be more cautious in expressing yourself in the future.
It is considered heartless to fire people in the Holiday/Christmas season here in the US. And then gloating about it (# 18) at a public forum like Chowk can only be described as criminal!
sincerely

sarwari,
Make any excuses you want, but Pakistanis will still continue to rent Indian movies & fill theaters abroad--no matter how crappy they are.
Judging from posters on Chowk, Pakistanis seem to be very ardent fans of Bollywood. I`ve learnt more about Bollywood from Sameer JB & temporal than any Indian counterpart on Chowk. Even poor hamidm`s wife went to see Pukar despite his threats. So what if she walked out half way, she paid full price:) The poor sod will continue to make threats, but I`m willing to bet that she will ``fall off the wagon`` again. Its like alcohol, once youre addicted, youre done for.
At the recent New Year`s eve party, I met an immigrant from Kyrigistan. Damn! I didnt even know such a place existed, let alone spell it!When she found out I was Indian, she told me that people in the Central Asian countries are absolutely crazy about hindi movies. Eventhough she doesnt speak a word of hindi, she broke out into a hindi song with a wierd Russian accent. Then she implored her husband to sing another hindi song ``because he knows at least 50 of them!``. ``Fortunately`` my wife comes running over to drag me to the dance floor because they were playing ``her`` Brittaney Spears song. Oooh I hate to dance--but that one time I actually thanked Miss Spears for her ``O baiby baiby---``
Reeaaaly burns you green doe`snt it?! Dont bother replying to this post with more rationalisations :) I suggest you start a Bollywood Anonymous modelled on AA. Too many of your countrymen are hopelessly addicted to this Indian treachery.
PS:but thanks for contributing to the Indian economy:)

``3. The Pandits have left the Valley because of insecurity and political arm-twisting and not due to any pressure from the local population or the militants.``
Have you ever met a Kashmiri pandit and asked why he/she left kashmir? If not, I can bring you in contact with dozens. I know by my own experience how threatening it became for a hindu to live in Kashmir.
And you write with great authority that ``(They are not singled out for attack.)``. Are you or were you in touch with planners of these attacks?

oye! Friend,
Listen, you said,
``Author also had ``the misfortune of watching a `Hindi` movie``. Why did author call this misfortune upon himself. Did he have no decent Pakistani films to watch?
And ``it was a bad movie even according to Indian standards``. Was it better than Pakistani standards? Is it worse than Rambo movies?``
You don`t want me to start about the Indian film Industry, ok, as pathetic as it is, its quiet sad that Pakistani films are not good either. However, comparing Pakistani films with Indian Films is like comparing a mooli to a baddam. Lets get you something that will help balance out the act. Watch SUNHAIREY DIN, watch LAAG, and before you die please watch ALPHA BRAVO CHARLIE, especially the part where Captain Kashif gets on Siachin`s peak before the Indians.
The difference is the following:-
1. Pakistanis do not attempt to use a media conducive to people`s emotions and its easy manipulation to create propaganda and sway public opinion in its favor.
2. PTV is not Zee (with that fake inside story etc)
3. Beautiful Girls with a role of a Muslim saying ``Yey Jihad nahi hey`` and, ``Mujhey dharam sey kuch nahi chahiyey, yey hindustan hi mera subkuch hey`` and all that long caravan of BHAI BHAI bakwas. Is all too silly, so please open your eyes and focus on the impact the rubbish has on ignorant minds.
I went out to rent Mission Kashmir and since it wasn`t there,so got FIZA and REFUGEE. My intent was to understand the perception of the Indian mind.... and I have been boiling over since then. Very conveniently someone came up with the idea of projecting the Pakistan army (with a very Hindi Urdu,) as a horrible corrupt disorganized side and amazingly ends with a jingle of peace. uff? doesn`t anyone else see the madness?
No wonder public opinion is what it is today there.
The next movie is something I can just visualize.

sacked `widely respected` last month so didn`t want to appear boorish and therefore abstained.
also, my visa is up before qazi sahib and don`t want to disturb the status -- u`d be surprised at how many people come to chowk.
nothing new about the khaled ahmed (he`s writing a column for us from this month), ahmed rashid bit, but most pakistanis don`t appear to read their own papers.
`peace` because i saw someone else use it and thought it cool -- thanks for reminding me it`s dorky.

Dear Ras:
Just popped in to show solidarity -- saying anything more on the subject would be disaster :)
However, as a journalist, a fact that has been completely forgotten in my case, I would like to know a few things:
1. Mr Lone sitting in the US and having a calm and serious discussion - is that a solution to the Kashmir crisis?
2. What is the basis of your assumption that we are moving towards ``something more permanent than a ceasefire``?
3. The Pandits have left the Valley because of insecurity and political arm-twisting and not due to any pressure from the local population or the militants. (They are not singled out for attack.)
4. You are partially right about Pakistan having a say in any Kashmir solution, but to what extent would that be, and which `Free Kashmir` representative group would be the spokesperson?
5. Is it possible for Pakistan to accept that solution, even if it goes contrary to its interests?
This is loud thinking. I am in no way questioning your motives. (Got to be careful these days!)
Regards,
Farzana

I agree, peace should be given a chance in Kashmir. But, ``aadat se laachar``, I read between lines written by Ras Siddiqui, and conclude that for peace to be given a chance, it is required to lock people like Ras (and perhaps many others, myself included) for few years till this issue is resolved.
Author didn`t care to explain what are ``some accommodations for the Kashmiri Hindus who had to flee their homes since 1989``, are these some bread crumbs like a Rs 1 Lakh damage (hus money) awarded by our governments after every train accident or Rs 5000 damage after a rape.
Perhaps, American Muslim Alliance (AMA) and United Muslims of America (UMA) should also invite VHP as a party such meetings on Kashmir so that they can also understand the intensity of Kashmir case (is kashmir case only of Lone and not of pundits).
Author also had ``the misfortune of watching a `Hindi` movie``. Why did author call this misfortune upon himself. Did he have no decent Pakistani films to watch?
And ``it was a bad movie even according to Indian standards``. Was it better than Pakistani standards? Is it worse than Rambo movies?
Anyway, Ras, have a nice new year, and do not watch any hindi movies during this year.

yaar aakar,
i was wondering where were you all this time when the `widely read and respected` one was around. exactly what have you been saying when you are drunk? :O)
about musha and pak, tell us something new.
and lastly, what is this fascination with signing out with `peace` amongst many? of course, the more moronic is `peace out`!

going by what khaled ahmed and ahmed rashid and foreign affairs have to write, pakistan`s last hope is a solution to kashmir that is found quickly and is not entirely religious in nature.
i hope for pakistan`s sake (and india`s in the long term) that the country halts its jihad and focusses, as we in india have in the last decade, on the economy.
however, i wonder if any deal with musharraf will hold in the future. what if a pakistani court were to strike his rule down in the future as being unconstitutional?
peace

Kia Misaal Hai.
Dekhein Oont Kis Karwat Bethta Hai.
I would only add this. Even if India somehow succeded in bypassing the wishes of Kashmiri people, it will continue to be a problem for India and detrimental to the role India is trying to assume in world politics.
Who has presented the plan Kashmir divided into three parts. Muslim dominated, Buddhist dominated and Hindu dominated and each part voting to join one or another. It will be best for all parties. Everybody gaining what is most important and loosing what is a side issue.
Opening a corridor and free travel between two parts of Kashmir is another option with autonomous status for both parts of Kashmir ultimately leading to independence, but may only be acceptable to a portion of Kashmiris and not neighbouring countries including Pakistan, India and China.
It may or not be a blessing for India, but for Pakistan there would be no reason to divert the fund from national development to defense in the name of perpetual enemy. Other borders of Pakistan are much safer now.

Assalmlaikum Ras:
It`s always a pleasure to read what you write :) Thanks for particularly writing this up. An article on Kashmir was long overdue. You keep informed about this stuff and by doing that it`s a great service, especially to us Pakistanis in the West Coast.
I told a mutual acquaintance of ours during a discussion on Kashmir that war should always be an option, because there is no way the Indians can be tamed otherwise, after a long silence I experienced a reaction I will never forget. The person literally cried and accused me of being the kind who likes to see children homeless and orphaned. Thanks to the advocacy class I took, I am quiet aware of the ad miseracondium fallacy, so I said, ``you don`t have to be so emotional!`` further projecting me as a mean and heartless person. My point was simply that when one breaks contracts, the other party is forced to take a Machiavellian approach and terminate all morality.
Our anguish is intense for Kashmiris, regardless of who is suffering, their pain is a deathly reality we choose to play ostrich with. As a natural consequence my dislike of Indian policy proliferates.
Thanks again.
Aisha
A happy new year for all Chowkwalas! :)
