The fact that you failed to read all other statements about Jinnah by Wolpert and have chosen that one statement about his descendants, who interestingly enough are not Pakistanis but lived in Bombay shows your closed mindset.
Jinnah was trying to buy some land in Simla in July 1947. He probably was going to retire in India had he lived . In Bombay Jinnah hall is still testament to his struggle on the behalf of Bombay citizens in 1915. Thankgod Jinnah died soon for had he retired in India, people like you would have used that against us too.
In any event, tell me Mr Gymnophist did you just read that one sentence in the book (which doesnot prove anything) and you forgot to read the rest of the book or what?
HV Hodson calls Jinnah ``the most honest man, a bastion of Idealism, a man who could not be bought, a man who was not accused of self seeking even by his opponents (even your Gods Gandhi and Nehru), and the most important man in India.`` I guess you just closed your eyes while reading.
I ask you who are you an insignificant little twit to decide whether he was right or wrong when your Gods could accuse him. Be a Good Hindu, and stick to your programming in the silicon valley, Politics and talk of humanity is beyond your petty intelligence. By the way what ever happened to the Indian threat to hack every Pakistani website. As far as I know, 40 different Indian sites have been hacked by Pakistanis. You people do something and you cant do it right.

Re: ylh and stock market of bankrupt country
A) If the base is 1, growth to 2 is 100% growth. That doesn`t make it any better than if 5 grows to 6 and the % growth is smaller. Perhaps that Ivy league school of your`s didn`t teach this little subtlety to you. No need to thank me...it`s my pleasure to share knowledge.
B) Even the Nasdaq suffered the worst year in history (or close to it). The other markets that fell with it, including the increasingly tech-heavy Bombay Sensex, are closely linked to the Nasdaq and the fortunes of the global tech industry. This corrolation is not necessarily a bad thing...if anything it is an indication that these markets are integrated into the global economy in a lucrative growth sector. If the Karachi Jehad Exchange moves in an opposite direction, I would be careful about barking it aournd.
You really are desperately looking for a shred of hope, aren`t you? Try again, fool.

A news item from Khaleej Times
Prominent Pakistani to join Bush team
From our correspondent
ISLAMABAD - A highly prominent Pakistani-American, Dr Shirin Tahirkheli, is being tipped to become the next US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia.
If selected by President-elect George W. Bush, Dr Tahirkheli will become the first American of Pakistani origin to hold such an important position in the American administration.
A noted diplomat and academic who grew up in Pakistan, Shirin is daughter of famous scientist Dr Raziuddin Siddiqui.
Currently research professor and director of the Foreign Policy Institute at the John Hopkins University`s School of Advanced International Studies, Dr Tahirkheli served as the US ambassador to the United Nations for special political affairs during the Reagan administration. She was also director of Near East and South Asia and director of political-military affairs at the National Security Council for six years. She is a member of the State Department`s policy planning staff, a senior fellow of the Foreign Policy Research Institute and a fellow of the Centre of International Studies, Princeton University.
Comments: Intersting! If she is selected, Talibans and their backers are in even bigger trouble. She is also big supporter of easing Indo-Pak hostilities. I hope to see her playing important role in this regard. (My guess is that she personally knows Prof. Pervez Hoodbhoy through her father who was a Physics Professor at Islamabad University?)

Is JI really that important? Why should several generals including Gen. Aziz meet JI chief? These generals have more meetings with Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Maulana Akram Awan and Maulana tahir Qadri than the PML, PPP, ANP or MQM leaders. Why not meet the leaders who are backed by majority population?
From Khaleej Times
JI wants agenda for meeting with Musharraf
From our correspondent
LAHORE - The Jamaat-i-Islami leadership will be willing to meet Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf provided the agenda and participants in the meeting are announced first, JI Secretary-General Syed Munawwar Hasan says.
Talking to reporters here, he said a schedule for transfer of power, Kashmir policy, recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology, economy, accountability and the law and order situation could be a good agenda for talks between the two sides.
[He confirmed Press reports that JI Amir Qazi Husain Ahmad had met some generals, including the Lahore corps commander, saying there was nothing unusual about that meeting.] He regretted that the advice rendered in good faith was not reflected in the decisions of the government. He said meetings could be fruitful only if they were result-oriented.

Instead, I think it would have made Pakistanis more rational if Jinnah had retired in India (which I believe would have been unlikely) even after he created Pakistan.

My dear Yaseer, do you again need to be remined of official PIADS (what was that, Pakistan Institute of Advanced Defence Studies) site that pirated the contents from a civilian Czech site?

PS: Study hard and stop wasting time in arguments

Forget leading Pakistan, the way you`re shaping up I`d put good money on you becoming the next UNABOMBER.

Well, let me say for the record on the question of skewness, to every man every other point of view will seem skewed untill every man learns to respect the other person`s right to exist and have opinions.
Yes you have accurately portrayed what I have said, but I also believe that History is not Good vs Evil but difference of opinion and conflict of national and group interests. I am an extreme reaction to what you people who have tried to paint an anti Pakistan picture of enormous proportions without even visiting it.

Oh that was funny to you? How clumsy of me! My intent was to ridicule you, not to entertain you. I wonder if it`s I who needs to brush up on my communication skills or whether you are one of those who take jokes as insults and vice versa? I strongly suspect the latter.
As my facetious post has seemingly whizzed past your walnut with nary a dent, I shall now try a more plebian persuasion. Here goes:
By pointing out that more Pakistanis have hacked Indian sites than vice-versa, what indeed are you suggesting? That Pakistan is better at Software technology than India? You would be laughed out of any sane discussion regarding this matter if you make such a claim!
By pointing out that the Pakistani Bourse grew at a faster rate than the Indian, what indeed are you suggesting? That Pakistan has a better economy than India? Again, you would be laughed out of any sane discussion regarding this matter for making an asinine claim like that!
Moral of the story. If you consistently make statements whose logical conclusions are laughably ridiculous, you come across as a few bricks short of a load. Are you?
Both India & Pakistan (or any country for that matter) have 10% morons, 10% geniuses & 80% average people. It`s not about who`s better but whose system can create a more conducive environment. As things stand now, the Indian system (An amazingly shitty one at that) is actually more conducive to IT boom & economic growth than Pakistan`s. So imagine how shitty the Pakistani system is!
Instead of shouting from rooftops outrageous sophomoric slogans like `Pakistani IT Kick`s Indian IT butt` or `Pakistani Economy Kicks Indian Economy butt`, and making a fool of yourself; you should work towards creating an environment in Pakistan where its talent may flourish. And the first step is for you and your kind to let go of your `I am better than you if not as good as you, failing which I`ll punish you` syndrome.
Nobody is racially, religiously, intellectually, morally superior to anybody. And to insinuate such concepts in this day and age is considered downright stupid!

P.S: Do you even listen to yourself when you say things like, `I react with extremism because Indians diss Pakistan without visiting it`? You sound like f_ckin four year old!

Your insightful post made me write this comment. You have excellently summarised how we are a prisoner of our own hypothetical world. Since being an Indian/Pakistani becomes a part of our own identity, we desparately try to bolster it by making ridiculous claims and justifying it by fallacious logic. Most of us, most of the times, are doing nothing but puffing our own ego/identity in the name of ``raising our country`s flag``. Good writing.
Sincerely

A gentle reminder that there are certain guidelines for InterActing on Chowk. Over the last few months we have allowed discussions to diverge and digress quite a lot. The hope was that over time we will regress to a ``steady state`` level and in the process discover and celebrate an indigenous Chowk culture/identity.
In the process we have succeeded in establishing the fact that Chowk can rise above most forms of prejudice and pettiness - but we still have a long way to go before we can proudly proclaim that Chowk has intrinsically become so strong and vibrant that troublemakers are instantly identified and made to feel unwelcome.
Gentle reader, writer, lurker, settler, squatter -please share your good self with Chowk and lets not insult each other.
sincerely
