I dont have to watch movies. Unfortunately, in this context, i live in ``sunny`` california. I am not dreaming of thongs, your insistence to call sandals thongs, in a very americansied way, compelled me to take the mickey out of the usage. that`s all.

At the very least, I am glad to get you ``off`` to a fine start, dreaming wise anywasy, eh..:)

I have no idea what the th thong song is. Perhaps u might care to sharee the lyrics for it.
``but seriously - thongs aka flip-flops - sandals to complete the beach going attire``
Hm, so why call them thongs, when you can call them sandals, a much more sombre word which does not conjure up images of parted bodily appendages.:)

Re : rubber Bata thongs...
Correct me if i am wrong, but arent thongs supposed to be worn to cover one`s naughty bits., along the lines of a highly skimpy bikini, worn predominantly by women. Beach going attire amongst the sophisticated, that is.
Naturally images of Shakar or Rsaxena wearing the aforementioned attire, is highly jarring, unless they are wearinmg something altogether different.
Some might say, this board has been hijacked by Rsaxena, Shankar, and scout. But then i am just a new comer. what do i know? :)

Shankar, Rsaxena, scout etc,
You will all be happy to know that Siqafat, the Pakistani Cultural Club`s showing of the Movie
``Jinnah`` is now going to be a fundraising event for the Indian Earthquake victims, to be held on 15th of Feb. Recent events at Rutgers have generated enough interest for this event to be sold out.

Scout,
Darling, one piece of advice.... read the first amendment before you advocate its usage or otherwise. Believe me if there were more people on both sides like Rsaxena, and myself, willing to bang their heads against each other to come to a compromise, there would be a mutually acceptable solution to Kashmir. Instead we have people like you on both sides, unwilling, and too scared of talking, to ever arrive at a positive solution to the entire problem.
I have faith that by the time Rsaxena and I are done, Rsaxena would probably have changed his mind about Quaid e Azam, and I probably would be more at ease with Gandhi, and the mutual hatred that we have for each others` countries would subside into respect and tolerance for what those countries stand for. This might seem a little optimistic, but you never know.

It`s interesting...just last week you sanctimoniously declared that this board has gone to ``lewds`` and ``crewds,`` with the implication that it was beneath you. Yet you kept buzzing around looking to somehow get involved...and finally you presented your treatise on ylh and me.
What does that say about you? It says you prefer lewds and crewds over the boring academics who answer every question with a suggestion to read some book to get the answer...but you won`t admit it. You are indeed a basket full of contradictions. (I won`t even go into your issues with liberalism.)

I read with interest your link. (looks like it is your University newspaper)
The problem with our lands is not Islam.
It is the lack of money. Leading to many ills in society.
Although to some extent we are to blame for that.
But the dynamic West during its Colonial period did a great disservice to us.
1-It utilized our resources to its advantage. To the point that it banned making of cotton cloth by Bengal because their product would not sell in Indian market in competition. Also whoever defied it their thumbs were cut. It was superiority in trade which led to prosperity and enlightenment of West.
2- West also consciously destroyed our development and extended its machinery of exploitation in the form of so called local educated etc so that we cannot come to their competition by standing on our own feet.
Because of the heroic struggle of third world countries, West has retreated to some extent. But still the system works to their advantage at the expense of third world or South.
In fact this kind of clash between Right and Left is to the advantage of West.
What In my thinking we need is a more people oriented approach with education and economic opportunity and self sufficiency. These regressive forces you mentioned in your letter will themselves retreat as they did in West. Otherwise we will be wasting our energies on non issues much to the delight of Perpetrator of status quo.

This is causing a lot of stir at Rutgers. There is one line though that I think I used which is more optimistic than true ...
``The Islam practised by most Pakistanis celebrates the values of freedom and humanity.``
Inshallah one day, this line will become true..and not just optimistic. With people like you around, it is quite possible that the day will be sooner.
Yours Sincerely

Scout,
I believe I speak for Rsaxena too, when I say, kindly mind your own business.
Waisay what gender related confusion are you suffering from? Are you in the closer cuz I thought there were Boy Scouts, and Girl Guides.. :) Hope you figure your internal contradictions out, before you decide insult Women from our enemy country. Women anywhere should be respected, its the Govt we have a problem with.

Extremely accurate and to the point! I liked the mela part. You know ``Kumbh mela`` is going on in India and close to 5000 are already reported lost out of 80 million. Who knows your version may be true. They(ylh and Rsaxena) may actually be lost brothers, if not in this birth then may be some other previous births! :-). Just kidding.
Cheers

Very impressive, ylh. Keep up the good work, the jehad against bigotry. Sooner or later, your adversaries, if they have the character and integrity, that is, to acknlowledge the new you as being an intelligent and knowledgeable young man, which Rutgers could be truly proud of.
Dont be so preoccouped with the Rsaxena`s of this world. After all, we ned them to lighten up this place with their often humourous quips.:)

Thanks for the invitation, I will try to make it. Sure getting paye wouldnt be a big deal... though I ll go back to Lahore in the Summer, this year after I graduate. I am graduating a year early. Glad to know you are from Lahore too.
Once again thanks for the encouragement.

P.S.
Yaseer,
I once asked for reference to Russell`s take on Jinnah. You didn`t reply.
btw, you might be interested in Arthur Koestler`s essay on the Mahatama. ``the Commissar and the Yogi`` from `The Heel of Achilles: Essays 1969-1978`. Don`t remember the publisher.
The essay offers a good demysitifed, de-deified appraisal of Ghandiji.
PPS.
don`t forget-- Russell.

Good on ya. Now, just LET IT REST.
I fully second F_K`s advice to you on the other board. Don`t give Saxena the pleasure of drawing you back into these puerile exchanges. It`s not like anyone takes him seriously anyway. Surely you have better uses to which to put your time.
Sorry if this sounds a little patronizing. Actually, I wish someone would tell *me * when to `just let it go` sometimes :)

This is in response to the standard Rsaxena accusation levelled against me on almost every board ...``Iranian King you rewrite History``
For the record I have always stated the view held by other authors. Kindly take a look at the list of authors I have used for my various posts.
1) Bernard Lewis
2) John L Esposito
3) Edward Jurji
4) Wilfred Cantwell Smith (selectively)
5) Harold Lamb
6) Montgommery Watt
7) Bernard Russel
8) George Orwell
9) Stanley Wolpert
10)Ayesha Jalal
11)Raj Mohan Gandhi
12)S Bandopadhya
13)Beverley Nichols
14)Martin Gilbert
Typical Mocking Rsaxena response
[``Iranian King/Bakra/Jihadi/Mullah/Pimplefaced``
Your authors are unknown, and you rewrite History, and you have no knowledge, and You wage Jihad! So you are of no value, and I wont debate with you and you put up 500 posts!]
I rest my case!

What`s the use? It takes *some * reasoning ability to understand.``
Touche`. Let us just end it right here?
On another unrelated note, di u use to write under another alias, called Patrick Maseeh by any chance. I remmeber the name, as once many eons ago, i had written about the state of affairs of Christians in Pakistan, and that fellow was very supportive of my efforts.
Even if you are not him, i hope you know, that i am not the sort of guy who would ``send the boys around to pay u a visit in the middle of the night`` for your liberties. At least not just yet! :)
Sincerely,

``you did make a little sense``
Now, now i am really offended that i made a little sense, as opposed to no sense, which is what i generally aim for, as PM can testify. :)
I can see nothing serious can ever get discussed here what with this place being curses by the indian brigade, the ``I am so cool, therefore i must be paksitani`` brigade, ``Mullah`s rock`` brigade, and various others who deserve a honourable mention but which fail my memory. So I decided to just stick with adhominem, much like these brigades, or to just write fro fun, once again much like these brigades.
Hope you dont mind!

YLH and Rsaxena, Two peas that got separated from the Pod, one went to India, the other Pakistan.
Same character, same values, same attitudes.
Both claim to be liberals, yet leave no opportunity to attack each other`s countries in the most narrow minded manner.
One attacks Gandhi, while the other Jinnah.
Both put too much value in the Ivy League system, and think that either going to an IL university and belonging to one that is close to an IL university justifies their ``high`` level of intellectual development.
Both cheer on people who have something negative to say about the other`s country.
You guys should get together seriously. Brothers lost in the mela of life.
Maybe you guys could go shoe shopping in Manhattan together. Please take pictures.

Defeat? When, where and with whom was the battle? Is this how you support your ego? With imagined battles and victories on Chowk?
``You are incapable of indulging in an intellectual discourse..``
Intellectual discourse with YOU??? You`re joking right?
``The fact that you havent ever visited the US, makes you unqualified to render judgements on any school in the US.``
Hmm, now this is curious. Were you having one of your all-too-familiar fits when you wrote this? When I checked at lunchtime, I was still in the U.S....unless India now has a huge white population. And as for judging schools, last time I checked my alma mater was still listed there in the Ivy League...unless it got kicked out and replaced by Rutgers recently; in which case, I humbly bow to you.

Rsaxena,
The signs of defeat are visible in your frustrated personal attacks. Garhay murday nikalnay say parhhez kijiyee! ``A good Indian is a dead Indian`` was said in response to your tirade against Pakistanis and then the moderate Shankar`s official support for your actions.
Yes thankyou for admitting it. You are incapable of indulging in an intellectual discourse not just with me, but anyone, as is evident by all your posts on Chowk.
And by the way, stick to relevant analogies next time since you are India, talk in Indian standards... Maruti 800 perhaps? The fact that you havent ever visited the US, makes you unqualified to render judgements on any school in the US.
Have a nice day...
Love
Yasser
PS For the record I never used any religious slogans, ... I leave that to devout Gandhians!

So, perceived ambiguity in arguments (rendered ambiguous by the reader`s inability to make cognitive connections or to simply remember things) are indicative of poor reasoning abilities??

Just observation.
Since you are defending Lahore/Lahoriites and to write about them in not a bad manner.
There is nothing wrong in writing something about a place or people by anybody.
Instead of telling other people not to write in bad manner, you can do otherwise.
Nothing personal against a people or group because each individual is different.

Thankyou for your encouragement. It is nice to know that people say good things about me, though recently I was under the impression that none of the young ladies at Rutgers had anything nice to say about me, owing to the recent propaganda against me by the Islamic Society.
There have been many times that I have taken pride in what you post, as a fellow Pakistani. It is indeed satisfying to know that people like yourself, OmarPheonix, Omar Mirza, and Sarwari, are out there.
As Iqbal says so well,

``Me, i just love driving it(the Porsche), to get far away ``from the `maddening` crowds`` of chowk on weekends :)``
Though i much prefer the battered old 1989 Corolla
for such exploits; It makes it easier for me to be recognised as a pakistani in US.
Last independence day here on the west coast, i was not sure where the big party was being celebrated. So i stopped by on Eddy street(home of pakistani restauranst), to ask for directions. A young pakistani guy, working the charcoal grill, with hands spotted with seekh kebab qeema, told me,..``Oh Sirji, tussie wi apni jiyoun corolla wekh kar, unhaun day peecahy lag jaoo, aaaj tey sarian corolla Presidio Park jaa rahiyaan ne; fikar na karyo, gawachdey nahiyoun tusaaan``
Needless to say, his directions were impeccable. And i ended up at the said park, to be shocked to see so many Pakistanis in one place, roaming freely. and having fun. The food was altogether a different story, but i digress.
Sincerely,
Asim
P.S Hope yMr Fairdinkum sahib does not see the above as paki-bashing! but then again, he may!:)

Ali1 (#176) claims that world-wide people are exercising more and eating better and therefore have better cardio-vascular health than in 1969.
I don`t think so -- first, the US. Consider the proliferation of fast food. Macdonald`s went public in 1965, and the big Mac was introduced in 1968. Now it is present world-wide. Same with the other fast food joints. More than half of US adults are now overweight, and a quarter are obese, and the prevalence of this has steadily increased among all racial and ethnic groups in the US over the last thirty years.
As the world Americanizes, it hits the same health problems.
In any case, the statistic you are interested in is easily found on the web -- e.g., take a look at

In response to Rsaxena,
Well we can clearly see who is putting 500 posts up now, and who is not :). The fact that you lack any ability to have a decent dialogue, or an intellectual discourse is evident in your use of words like ``Bakra``, ``Burkah``, ``Iranian King`` etc.
You thrive on mockery, and thus are an unproductive and substandard wannabe satirist.
Only the other day you called sources like Bertrand Russel, Orwell, Hodson, and Nichols etc as outdated, and substandard. My question to the rest of the Indians is that is this a standard Indian attitude? and if Yes then Maharaj Rsaxena kindly advise on which Pandit Swami hari Rama, I should read to be enlightened with the truth?
By the way, I am positive you still havent read the book by S Bandopadhya, a devout Gandhian, called ``Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah``... but
hey, thats your loss. Do read some of the work on Jinnah by Gandhi`s grandson though.... one can safely conclude from RajMohan`s work that not all Indians suffer from same kind of complexes as our dear friend Rsaxena does.
Love, sada jiyo phoolo phalo

Pakistani woman with a death wish.
{{{NEW DELHI: Police on Wednesday stepped up a massive hunt for a Muslim female bomber who heads a list of people likely to stage suicide attacks during Friday`s Republic Day parade in New Delhi. Detectives also released a photograph of a male and identified him as Ejaz Rasool, saying he led a suicide squad which planned to target Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani.
The unnamed woman suicide bomber was described Wednesday as a member of the Jaish-e-Mohammad Muslim guerrilla group, which has rejected the second extension of India`s unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir.
``She is sophisticated and highly-motivated,`` an official from the Intelligence Bureau told AFP and added the Pakistan-based woman, trained in combat and guerrilla attacks, had already ``sneaked`` into the Indian capital.}}}

I was at a dinner few months back and came across some students from Rutgers. ``Zahra bibi`` has been a little angry since I asked her to stop personal attacks on Solitude (who unlike most of us, doesn`t do that). So she is looking for some little itsy bitsy opportunity to come back.
``However, after taking a second look at your post, I can only say I am relieved-- relieved at the fact that, perennial fool though I may be, at least no one could accuse me of being blatantly dishonest!``
Machinations with words is about the only way Asim and The Turd could`ve extracted something out of that post.

By the way, did you attend an Ivy League pre-school too? I gotta hand it to you buddy, that Rutgers-is-an-Ivy-League school line is a classic. Then you ranted about your acceptance to Rochester too...even scout couldn`t resist that one.

No Sir, I don`t throw tantrum fits. I think ylh has safely taken that crown. Witness his past patterns....he gets needled like one would a bleating bakra (credit shankar) , posts 500 long posts in a fit of sweat and fury, and finally runs off in protest of the imposters.
``Touche`, Mr ylh. Best ``rebuke`` i have read this fine, rainy evening! :), even better than your earlier Porche alia Jinnah one. :)``

My dear man, I am afraid you lost me on that one completely. Did i mention that i dont know Swahili that very well. Possibly not:)
Clean bowled! the stumps are uprooted, and the bails went flying over the wicketkeepers balding head.
Its alright you still have the next innings to bowl me out like that again. I am an easy wicket, if you start using ``watta/underhanded bowling``. Trust me!
Sincerely
Asim

On second thoughts let me change your appelation from a perennial fool to one not blessed with a funny bone too. Good for you, i might add! or maybe not. :)
Did you see that big nudge nudge sign next to the ``modified`` statement. The next time you want to go on a holier than thou rampage, please see to it that you dont make an utter fool of yourself.
Whats the use. Whom ``AM I TALKING TO`` :)

P.S sorry RSaxena Sahib. YLh got you clean bowled once more.No need to throw a tantrum fit now. It will not change the verdict.
P.S Been to some Salvatore Ferragamo bashes lately??? I saw this wonderful pair going for a song at 550 bucks; Except i cant sing so well to save my life, let alone bargain it for a 550 bucks pair of shoes. I still look at that pair, and hope that come christmas sale again, they dont run out of that hot number. Soometimes, i do think that shoe beckons me, and whispers to be ``taken``.

After reading Asim Hayat`s supposed exposure of your gaffe, I was about to join in the party laughing at you (as I see even the the coolly aloof Zahra bibi couldn`t resist doing).
However, after taking a second look at your post, I can only say I am relieved-- relieved at the fact that, perennial fool though I may be, at least no one could accuse me of being blatantly dishonest!

You are laughable. First the Rutgers-is-an-Ivy-League-Institution crap, now this. So because no one gives a rat`s behind about Jinnah, it means he was brilliant since his intelligence was far beyond the grasp of the rest of the world???? How delusional can you get! You can either climb down to reality on your own or one day someone will kick you down and it will hurt.

This otherwise interesting board has fallen into the hands of the CRUDES and LEWDS(Rsaxena & co with the recent recruit of Ali), not to mention the little stubborn whiner (YLH).
You guys are worse than women with your ``he said, he said`` bickering amongst each other.
tsk tsk... what a waste of neurons.
And now they will conveniently get together to say something negative about me.
I`m waiting patiently.

``You, who thinks that Rehan shouldn`t write about Lahore and its heera mandi since he is of the matarwa origin, have no right to point fingers at others. ``
Ali,
I never stated in my reply that you accused me of being that kurranta whatever. All i stated was that in exchnage for my half joking ideas, you went ballistic. Thats all.
Regarding your above statement(``in quotes``), once again, you are being liberal with the truth. Let me repeat for your benefit, my reply to Urstruly, which was written in that debacle of an article,.``Udaas naslein``. Pay attention this time, and i honestly would not be this nice, the next time you try to be selective in your quotes which you attribute to me.
Re : Reply Urstruly #38 from interact of Udaas naslein replies.
Urstruly had written:
``I have absolutely no problem with anyone who writes about Lahore/Punjab-regradless of his ethnicity``
My reply to Urstruly
Dost, Neither do I. All i ask for is impartiality, and a conscientious respect for the subject matter at hand, to not distort it to suit your ``in vogue`` pereceptions. Period!
Hope that suffices for the time being.
Its good to see that Ali1, you are still captivated by bodily functions and usage of expressions by 18yr old males in Pakistan, such as Mr Smarty Pants. :)
Sincerely,
Asim

[``So, instead of poking fun at Indian males who are not that intrinsically diff from their Pak counterparts....``]
hamidm can read you a long list of intrinsic differences b/w Indian and Pakistani males :-)
Do you think that ones ``growth`` would be normal without sufficient intake of animal proteins?? Like someone (ok ok that someone was me) said earlier about Tamil Brahmins: dudes who can`t hold their head/neck steady for more than 30 seconds wouldn`t be able to keep the thingy up for more than 15.
macgupta: Tamil brahmin average is 7 seconds (not minutes), which is essentially less than Tamil rabbits.
