``For one, I never critized their esoteric and unconventional dressing style, just pointed it out as a characteristic of IITians. Wasn`t really scoffing at it really. Sorry if I offended you.
``
I understand buddy. On a lighter note, of late, I`ve started paying some attention to the way I dress.( Hey, afterall I need to get a good girl too :-) ).

Pankaj,
Why you worry yaar. Forget the Armani suits & Gucci boots. Just tattoo IITan on the forehead (figuratively, ofcourse!). Parents in India will form a line outside your door. Hottest prospect in the marriage market these days :)
Heck, do you mind waiting for about 7 years or so?. My daughter will be ``eligible`` by then. Er, where do you stand on dowry?!:) My daughter states ``if he`s cute, I`ll start e-mailing him right now; I`m not for sale though!``:)

Pankaj #49 You write ``I`ve started paying some attention to the way I dress.( Hey, afterall I need to get a good girl too :-) ).``
Once you are married, that good girl will make sure you stay well dressed. So, say goodbye to your good-old-days of dressing like a scarecrow.

REPORT CARD: HINDUSTANI PERFORMANCE IN KASHMIR IN YEAR 2000
Following is the report card representing the performance of Hindu-stani Government in Kashmir for the year 2000. I take this moment to make an appeal to all the good people with good conscience in the world to voice against this genocide of Kashmiri people. I would also request all decent Hindus to act and stop the rabid actions of their government. It is just a matter of time when all of those who committed atrocities will be dragged in front of International Court of Justice. But before that they will have to answer to the Kashmiri people. Now that when practically each and every household has suffered at the hands of rabid Hindus, it is time that all of those with live conscience should wake up. The time to act is now:
Report Card for year 2000:
Kashmiris who gave their lives for their motherland
3401 (ave. 283/mo)
Deaths/Shahadats in Army/Police Custody
363 (30/mo)
Wounded
3844 (320/mo)
Arrested
3058 (254/mo)
Rapes by Hindu Army and police
281 (23/ mo)
Property Damaged (number)
1604 (133/mo)
A month by month breakdown is available at following site:
http://www.jang-group.com/jang/index.html
I would request all people with live conscience who value human life, to forward this link and the figures to your human rights organization.
Thank you.

You forgot the rubber slippers! and that the checkered shirts, need to be strteched to capacity, thereby resulting in unnatural stresses being put on the buittons of the said shirt. Its a miracle, they dont snap off, every time the IItian exhales. Though thankfully after they land a job, they do get better shirts, with more breathing space. Though the rest of the setup remains the same.
Regardless, they make for smart people, if not street smart!

One of the most important distinction between American system of education and the Indian one is while former rewards lateral thinking/creativity, the latter discourages it or at best remains indifferent. While kids in USA do small projects that give them ample opportunity to innovate by common sense, their Indian counterparts are burdened with 10 kilo bags and long dull homeworks. In India, it is ``one fits all`` kind of educational system that prescribes the same syllabus for everybody irrespective of their special talents/unique inclinations. In US, they have honors classes for the specially talented ones and the course is designed to meet their specific needs. In short, Indian system, though good for mediocres, does not encourage geniuses. Talking about the undergraduate education, Anand is probably right in asserting that IITians do not have a very healthy attitude towards education in general. I`ll give you an insider info: many IITians are totally burnt after four years of drill at IIT. By the time they graduate, their disillusion with education is almost complete and all they remain interested in is making good money. The harsh schedule of IITs is responsible for this to a large extent. Can you believe they start teaching Schrodinger`s time dependent wave equation in the very first class of the freshmen year in Chem101 as though quantum mechanics was all we were doing in high school! The instructors care little whether you understand or not. That`s your problem. It`s a typical example of jungle rule in which only the fittest survive. This kind of system tends to kill the creative faculties of students by overburdening them with too many things in too short a time. Where`s the fun in studying when the dagger of surprise quizzes is always hanging on your head. Okay enough rambling, I will talk about some of these things later.
Cheers

URstruly,
Many thanks for praying for the poor Kashmiris dying at the hands of the evil Indians. I`ll pray for them. But I hope you will pray for the thousands of Kashmiri hindus who have been killed & driven from their lands by those jihadis. How many more innocent civilians have died at the hands of the jihadis? If you have any sense of shame, ask how clean the hands of Pakistan are in this senseless brutality. Those pigs you call martyrs & freedom fighters are called murderers ,butchers & terrorists everywhere in the rest of the world.
The ONLY country supporting you is Afghanistan. Not a single country in the world has pressured India to give up Kashmir. You know why? because Pakistan`s hands are equally dirty. Oh puhleease dont tell me about those Pakistan sponsored OIC resolutions. If you have any brains you`ll know its OIC`s way of telling Pakistan to shut up & get on with it.
So go ahead with your pious squeals of angiush & make a storm in a Pakistani teacup. Before you worry about the future of Kashmir; look at the handwriting on the wall. Those jihadis are going to make Pakistan get off the train & walk back to the 16th century before they liberate Kashmir. I wish you well in your journey of righteousness.
Now kindly shutup & stop diverting all threads to the Kashmir issue.

Even though the general quality of undergraduate technical education in India is generally good, there is a dearth of top quality research institutions. Only a few national labs such as BARC, TIFR etc and educational institutes like IISc Bangalore are infact the places where some genuine research was carried out. This might be because of the inadequecy of Indian Industrial infrastructure and Govt to establish and fund research, that usually requires large funds. Recently a consortium of NRIs consisting of most of the bigshots has come together to establish six campuses of GIST(Global Institute of Science and Technology) across India. These institutes will be fashioned after IITs but will cater specifically to the research in new upcomming areas such as Biotechnology and IT. These institutes will ensure that India remains at the forefront in developing new technologies. Indian Govt has accepted the proposal and the work is expected to commence soon. I wish that India gains a lead in the Biotech revolution in the next decade beside consolidating its position in IT.
Sincerely
PS Vinod Gupta(IIT) returned back to his paternal village, Rampur in India to establish a polytechnic for women for a million bucks. Gururaj Deshpande has announced a free aid of $100 million to his alma mater IITM distributed uniformly over a period of 20 years. It his dream to put IITM at the level of Howard, Oxford. NarayanaMurthi donated Rs 9 crores to IITK to further develop its infrastructre. Alumni of IITB had contributed Rs 20 crore to their alma mater last year in the reunion. IITians owe a lot to the taxpayers of India for funding their studies and it is the time for all Silicon valley millionares to give back to their country generously. IMO, Indo Americans have the potential to turn India into an enviable place.

It is not a matter of whose hands are more dirty.
It is a matter of Kashmiris to determine their own future.
As far as not a single person accepting a truth. Does it changes the truth.
In medical literature when a person was working on ulcer of stomach being caused by a bacteria, the whole medical community was smiling. But now the whole medical community treats this bacteria.
One of the famous Abul Kalam Azad wrote in his book about (I think) Rosseau. That when first edition of his book came out the people that matters laughed on it. And when the second edition of the book came its binding was done by the skin of the same people who laughed on its first edition.
So it is not as easy. Who cares. If the people of a land care about themselves, that itself can lead to some consequences.
To cut it short. Lets wait for the verdict of history.

You have written an informative, objective article.
The minister`s steps in reducing telephone charges is the first step in making internet wide-spread.
One area where the internet can be useful is getting better prices for the farmer. In both Indi and Pakistan, the middleman takes the produce cheap for the farmer and expensive for the consumer. So the consumer consumes less and the farmer grows less. Productivity is reduced because there is no incentive to grow. Internet can reduce this distance between the producer and consumer.
You have rightly said that for an IT industry there should be qualified people. You should also consider the effect migration will have on your industry. This is rampant in India. But India has large numbers of computer programmers and so it will not make such a dent. In India, too, there is a shortage of good teachers to teach modern IT subjects.
I hope Pakistan finds a solution to its IT problems.

An Invitation from Hizb ut-Tahrir to the Muslims of Pakistan to Re-establish the Khilafah
May the peace and blessings of Allah (swt) be upon the final Messenger Muhammad (saw), upon his family, upon his Sahabah (companions), and upon all those who carried his da’wa, who adopted his method and followed his path.
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu!
Allah (swt) states in his Noble Book:
``You are the best nation ever raised up for mankind, you enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and you believe in Allah.`` [TMQ Ale-Imran: 110]
And He (swt) states:
``Thus we have made you a just nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger be a witness over you.``[TMQ Al-Baqarah: 143]
And He (swt) states:
``And we have not sent you [O Muhammad (saw)] except as a giver of glad tidings and a warner to all mankind`` [TMQ As-Saba: 28]
Allah (swt) sent His Messenger (saw) with the message of Islam to convey it to the whole of mankind. He (saw) indeed conveyed the message in the way it deserved to be conveyed. After him (saw), this responsibility was taken up by the Sahaba (ra), the Tabi’een, the Tabi Tabi’een, and the generations of Muslims who followed. Thus, both the Muslims and the Ahlel Dhimmah (people of the covenant) enjoyed peace and tranquillity under the shade of Islamic rule. Despite the tragic and bitter events of the Mongol invasions and the Crusader wars, the Ummah never neglected the responsibility of the da’wa and continued to struggle in carrying the da’wa forward. However, this Ummah indeed stepped back from the obligation of carrying the da’wa when the British Kuffar along with the help of some Jews succeeded in destroying the Khilafah and wiping out its existence after the First World War in 1924.
After the fall of the Khilafah, the Ummah met catastrophe after catastrophe, so she became separated into nations and groups. Thus, the Muslims despite possessing one Aqeedah, became divided based upon nation, country, group and differences of opinion over the furu’ (branches). After the Kuffar managed to disunite the Ummah and became dominant over it, they clasped her in the grip of capitalism; militarily, economically, politically and culturally. They then implemented the systems of kufr and introduced into the belief of the Muslims the idea of the separation of the Deen from this life. On top of this, the Kafir Christians, Jews and Hindus launched an onslaught against the Ummah. Were it not for the deep-rooted foundations of this Ummah, it would have submitted to the attack of the Kuffar and their agents and, like previous nations, would have been consigned to history.
In this situation, and in response to the command of Allah (swt), Hizb ut-Tahrir came into being:
``Let there arise out of you a group inviting to all that is good, enjoining al-Marouf and forbidding al-Munkar, and it is they who are successful.`` [TMQ Ale-Imran: 104]
Thus Hizb ut-Tahrir began its work to liberate the Ummah from the clutches of the Kuffar.
O Muslims! Know with certainty! Hizb ut-Tahrir is not just another group like all the other groups present in Pakistan or the Muslim World. The groups, parties and movements in the Muslim World can never be a substitute for Hizb ut-Tahrir, since they do not adopt Islam as a complete idea (fikra) and method (tariqa) and since they do not give priority to the life and death issue of this Ummah. Indeed they are negligent of the life and death issue. Of a surety, the life and death issue of the Muslim Ummah is the complete implementation of the Deen of Islam and the propagation of its message to the world. That is, the vital issue is the establishment of the Khilafah Rashida, the complete implementation of the Shariah, and the conveyance of the message of Islam to the whole of mankind. Only following this course can the Ummah reach its deserved status that was revealed by Allah (swt) in the Ayah:
``You are the best nation ever raised up for mankind, you enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and you believe in Allah.`` [TMQ Ale-Imran: 110]
Without doubt, it is an obligation (fard) upon the Muslims to carry the da’wa for Islam, and similarly it is an obligation (fard) upon the Muslims to work to establish the Khilafah. In fact, this is the most important obligation (fard), for it is the Khilafah that is the only method for implementing the entirety of the laws of Islam. It is in the presence of the Khilafah that the laws of Islam are implemented and it is in its absence that they are suspended.
Individual action alone is not enough to establish the Khilafah. The undertaking of this obligation revolves around working with a group that has the ability to bear the burden of this responsibility. There are two reasons why it is an obligation upon a Muslim to work with a group (that is, a party) in order to perform his responsibility of da’wa. The first is the statement of Allah (swt):
``Let there arise out of you a group inviting to all that is good, enjoining al-Marouf and forbidding al-Munkar, and it is they who are successful`` [TMQ Ale-Imran: 104]
The second is the Shariah principle, ``That which is necessary to achieve an obligation is in itself an obligation``.
The above Ayah makes it an obligation upon the Muslims that they establish an Ummah, that is, a group, which has one Amir, which calls to Islam, enjoins what is right and forbids what is evil. And it is the rulers who are most needy to be commanded with what is good and forbidden from what is evil. . Therefore, the ``Ummah`` which Allah (swt) commands us to establish is indeed a political group; that is, a political party. The above stated Shariah principle is also clear, in that Allah (swt) has declared it haram for the Muslims to rule according to the systems of kufr, and has made ruling according to the Shariah an obligation (fard). Allah (swt) states:
``And whosoever does not judge according to whatever Allah has revealed, such are the disbelievers`` [TMQ Al-Maida: 44]
He (swt) goes on to say:
``And so judge between them by that which Allah has revealed`` [TMQ Al-Maida: 49]
As the present rulers do not judge according to what Allah (swt) revealed, but rather judge according to the system of kufr, and indeed make excuses in order not to rule by what Allah (swt) revealed, it is an obligation (fard) to remove them and take away the ruling from them. Since the power of the Fasiq or Kafir rulers cannot be taken from them by an individual, it is therefore necessary that a political party exists that possesses the capability to carry out this task.
This is the reason why Islam has obliged every Muslim, man or woman, to work to re-establish the Khilafah and to engage in this work with a group who undertakes this task following the method of the Messenger of Allah (saw). It is not sufficient to just join any group, but rather it is an obligation that a Muslim investigates and seeks out that group which restricts itself solely to the Islamic rules and has the best understanding of the Shariah. It is also not acceptable that a Muslim should look for the group that is easiest to work with. Therefore, a Muslim fulfils his responsibility only when he joins a group (party) who he understands to be the closest to the truth in this matter and which will lead to the attainment of the pleasure of Allah (swt) and his Messenger (saw).
The Ulema, upon whom is the obligation to carry the message of Islam and to raise the word of Allah (swt) to the highest, should prove that they are indeed the inheritors of the Prophets (as)! It is disappointing to see some of them content to live under the shade of the corrupt rulers and their systems of kufr, while many of them remain silent when witnessing such a situation. We wish to draw their attention to the clear reality: that the people of this nation are Muslims and that they desire a government ruling only by the book of Allah (swt) and the Sunnah of his Messenger (saw). Despite this we see that the minority (who are equivalent to salt in flour) secularists who raise the slogan of separating the Deen of Allah (swt) from the State, are dominant at every level of the government. Why is it that the Ulema have accepted this? Why have the Islamic movements accepted this? And why are the sincere Muslims content with this?
O Muslims! Hizb ut-Tahrir is the only group that works for the whole of this Muslim Ummah and does not restrict itself to any particular area or group of Muslims. This is in order that it may establish the Khilafah in a suitable Muslim country or a number of Muslim countries together, and then spread it to encompass the whole Muslim World. Pakistan from the military point of view, being situated in a region possessing in abundance both natural resources and human resources, holds the ability to become such a point of initiation, which would reunite the Muslims as one nation and convey the message of Islam to the whole world.
We invite the Muslims of Pakistan to liberate this region and the other Muslim lands from the governance of kufr rule and partake in their role to return Islam back to the affairs of life. We also invite the Muslims of Pakistan to support the Members of Hizb ut-Tahrir present in the whole Muslim Ummah, who are indeed their brothers, in order that Hizb ut-Tahrir may guide the Muslim Ummah in the noble duty of re-establishing the Islamic Khilafah.
We specifically invite the people of influence and authority from amongst the Muslims of Pakistan to join Hizb ut-Tahrir and with full commitment utilise the authority and power that Allah (swt) has provided them with to re-establish the Khilafah.
``O you who believe! Answer the call of Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life`` [TMQ Al-Anfal: 24]

Barrister-at-Law? Really? And I am a car jockey. No offense!
Can a Shia become a Khalifa?
And why is this “...invitation from Hizb ut-Tahrir to the Muslims of Pakistan to Re-establish the Khilafah” confined to Pakistan only?
Where is the ‘magic wand?’ (Sorry, Pervez!)
And will he be elected by a big mandate?
And what of the aspiring one who was elected by one and is presently enjoying the Al-sirri wal payyay of bad politicking in the land of Bebsi?

Please ignore #58. Too many typos. That`s what happens when you write half asleep.
``Even though the quality of undergraduate technical education in India is generally good, there is a dearth of top quality research institutions. Only a few national labs such as BARC, TIFR, CSIR etc and educational institutes like IISc Bangalore are infact the places where some genuine research is carried out. This might be because of the inadequecy of Indian industrial infrastructure and Govt to establish and fund expensive research.
It is his dream to put IITM at the level of Harvard, Oxford. NarayanaMurthi donated Rs 9 crores to IITK to further develop its infrastructre. Alumni of IITB contributed Rs 20 crore to their alma mater last year in the reunion. IITians owe a lot to the taxpayers of India for funding their studies and it is time for all Silicon valley millionares to contribute their due share in India`s development. IMO, Indo Americans have the potential to turn India into an enviable place.
Sincerely

Re: Kashmir problem
Hi folks,
I try not to join the allegations and counterallegations but this time I am tempted. As for as I think, no government the world over will ever give in or seen to be giving it to violence (call it terrorism or freedom struggle). I am a Tamilian who grew up in Delhi. In the 60s Tamil Nadu was rocked by protests; leaders of the day were protesting over the undermining of their language (Tamil)as well as what they perceived as unfair influence of Delhi over matters concerning their state. It snow balled into a struggle for liberation; what saved the day for India and Tamilians is democracy. The popular local party of the time (D.M.K) thrashed Congress in elections and to this day latter has not been able to win even a single election on its own strength. Tamilians are today a part and parcel of the Indian society. That is why most Tamilians today do not support the terrorism by LTTE however genuine their grievances may have been initially. Violence is just not the answer and when it is justified as a religious ``jihad`` we are walking on dangerous grounds. Pakistan has tried several times to take Kashmir away by force but has failed every time. It is now time that it changes track and allow diplomacy to takes its hold. For this to happen, it has to go the extra mile by reassuring Indian politicians that it does not support Jihad.
