Mr.Abba Ebbans` is perhaps the final word on jewish/muslim relations. He candidly admitted on camera and has written extensively on the very survival of jewish

traditions/culture due to muslim rule in spain.

In case you missed it,I wrote elsewhere on chowk, that a jewish professor from Tel Aviv,in jan this year, suggested the establishment of Khilaafa for muslims. He went on to say that the jews should be happy to live within the meesaqu-e Madina, drafted by Islams` prophet(S).That was the best period in their history!

``A raw nerve``?? You`ve gotta be joking. Chowk and the internet is nothing but entertainment. Nothing said here matters or makes the slightest bit of difference.

Before I forget, I would like you thank you and all other Bharatis for providing the mighty ISI with more recruits. Keep up the good work!

Concocting enemies

The list of ??anti-national activities?? in this country gets longer. A

new addition has come to light in the rubble of Kutch thanks to Nalin

Bhat. He is a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and it is a wonder

how even in the midst of death and catastrophe, and with his heavy

responsibilities as chairman of the state electricity board, he manages

to keep a sharp eye open for ??anti-national?? mischief. But he does

and the method he uses is, unfortunately, quite common. The easy way to

spot trouble is to start with the preconceived notion that anything the

minorities do is suspicious. So Bhat decides it is ??anti-national??

for a journalist to report and, by implication, for a minority group to

protest about unfair treatment in relief operations. It does not matter

that the report is accurate and can help remedy possible shortcomings

in relief operations by bringing them to wider notice. The mere writing

of such a report offends Bhat and he takes action. He prevents the

journalist, an Indian Expresscorrespondent, from filing any copy from

the Bhuj media centre and he tries to justify this egregious act of

censorship later on by saying Kutch is a sensitive border district.

If only Gujarat?s political leaders were more sensitive to real social

problems instead of concocting enemies. Someone should ask Nalin Bhat

what he thinks of caste segregation and prejudice in the Kutch town of

Adhoi also reported in this paper. For all the heightened concern that

he and others express for the nation, they have not been heard to

condemn caste practices such as those observed among the quake affected

in Adhoi. Those who perpetuate caste differences and discriminate

between people on grounds of caste or religion do terrible harm to the

social fabric of this country. It is deplorable that separate kitchens

have to be set up for Dalits, Patels and Brahmins and that Dalits have

to sleep in the cold in the open because the upper castes object to

sharing tented space with them and, being powerful, get the first

choice of tents.

Social prejudices are not going to disappear even in the midst of

common suffering. Therefore, the Gujarat government should take special

steps to ensure that there is no discrimination, no double standards,

no false priorities in the relief operations. Money and material have

been pouring into the state from official and private sources,

corporates, individuals and charities. Many donors will monitor the use

of their funds directly. Many others are not in a position to do so.

Taxpayers must be assured that funds will be efficiently and fairly

spent. It is essential for the government to prepare a rehabilitation

policy and to make it public as soon as possible. This has been found a

necessary and useful practice in other areas of major disasters such as

Latur in Maharashtra. A declared policy will help in the coordination

of relief work and of the rehabilitation plans of the public and

private sector. The people of Gujarat ought to know exactly what the

government is doing today and planning to do tomorrow.

Thanks to all of you who admitted and apologized for taking up this space on the Kashmir/Hindu/Muslim issue. Chowk is open for everyone and this space belongs to everyone. However i do believe that chowk provides a specific space for this sort of interaction. You might want to use that.

Thanks for the info on temporal`s work.

ali1,

#136,

Youre welcome. Just for you, I`ll work pro bono.

Only one problem though. If you become sane, how will you be able to join your friend URstruly & become a jihadi? The 72 burkha clad houris are waiting eagerly for you!

Now you guys have to look, talk & act like Kashmiris. After all, you should be able to convince the rest of the world that it is an indigenous 100% Kashmiri uprising. Maybe, URstruly can pass off as a Kashmiri.

However, how the heck can a Sindhi like you disguise yourself as a kashmiri peasant? Sai, even if you wear a burkha to hide the AK 47 & the RPG, the hindu army can smell the stench of a sindhi pappad a mile away.

I know this is off the path of this anarchic thread, but I thought some Chowkies might be interested in reading this opinion piece from yesterdays ``Observer`` written by Mike Davis, called ``Ghosts in the dust of Gujarat`` (particularly bahmad / F_K / sadna / Fuzair) about the legacy of British Colonialism, and the exploitative and detrimental nature of the raj especially wrt the famines in India in late 19th century. A timely corrective to some current colonial revisionist histories that seek to paint the Raj as a benign and altruistic era......

some highlights.....

``The British worshipped a savage god known as the `Invisible Hand` that forbade state interference in the grain trade.``

``British officials rated Indian ethnicities like cattle, and vented contempt against them even when they were dying in their multitudes``

``On the expenditure side, a colonial budget largely financed by taxes on farm and land returned less than 2 per cent to agriculture and education. While a progressive and independent Asian nation like Siam was annually investing two shillings per capita on education and public health, the Raj expended barely one penny per person as `human capital```

Bina#128;

The thing about Sahiti is that she is a firebrand feminist. I have to watch what I say when I am around her in case I say anything that can be remotely described as sexist. And she is full of invective. Anyway, you can tell her yourself soon, she is going to join the fray on Chowk herself personally, i think she has caught the Chowk bug.

She`s like scout, anything disrespectful about women is exposed and burned down.

So a misogynistic racist like the hallucinating comedian didnt stand a chance.

I agree with you though, the best policy is to ignore foolish people, something I try to do.

Harpreet

Kashmir and all those touching outpourings

New National Population Policy Unveiled by CE

Islamabad: CE unveiled a New Population policy to take urgent steps to control burgeoning population of the country. This new policy has an innovative method of reducing Pakistan’s population. The adoption of this new initiative in right earnest has become necessary because Pakistan’s sworn enemy has been able to lower its population growth rate even if its population is still increasing and will take a few decades to stabilize.

CE has requested people to adopt this new initiative boldly and fearlessly. This new initiative is TO RECRUIT MORE AND MORE CHILDREN FROM POOR FAMILIES FOR MADRASSA EDUCATION TO TURN THEN INTO TOP CLASS JIHADIS and then export this new commodity all over the world to create trouble in the name of ‘fidayeen’ In the process, all these jihaadis have a great chance of getting killed. THIS WILL CERTAINLY HELP IN REDUCING PAKISTAN”S POPULATION.

This new policy has added advantages such as exporting unwanted bodies, ensure international press coverage of the country whenever exploits and heroic deeds of these death squads are reported, give country a leverage to continue blackmail the international community with its deadly weapon getting into the hands of these valiant forces and earn foreign exchange by manufacturing these mercenaries.

Our press person covering the event reported that Pakistanis/ex-Pakistanis residing in the land/lands of opportunities have welcomed this new policy with great fanfare and have called upon their countrymen living in the land of purity to contribute towards this noble cause wholeheartedly.

``You can go on and on about muslim achievements in the past. You know what, when that happened, your ancestors were probably hindus who were at the receiving end.``

Its not a probability my friend, one can say that with certainity. What can you do eh? Sh *t happens! You oughtta know that :-). Its better to move on than wallow in self-pity, especially when it happened hundreds of years back.

I have`nt talked about ``muslim`` achievements, simply corrected your time-lines. Next time you get sarcastic about Moorish Spain try to keep in mind that amongst many, Maimonides (Musa ibn al-Mayman to be exact-being and Arabic speaking Jew) was one of the beneficiaries of their benevolent rule. You know what they say about him, right?... ``from Moses to Moses there was only one Moses``.

Shalom!

A REQUEST TO ALL MUDSLINGING CHOWKSTERS:

Can we shift this discussion/debate to the Chowk poll area (on the botton right of the screen), where the question of Kashmir is raised.

I personally would like to do my share of mudslinging too but not on Mahim`s board.

I`m trying to be nice here, work with me.

Can Chowk make a special mudsling column/forum called Mitti Pao for all of the mudslingers (myself included)?

It would save nice people like Mahim from trying to extract meaningful messages about her poetry from the dozens upon dozens of India vs. Pakistan posts.

Urstruly, remember Jay and how we used to hate his hatemonging messages? Don`t try to replace Jay.

Stop it.

Don`t post derogatory messages UNLESS provoked.

Lately, you`ve been posting useless propaganda UNPROVOKED.

No good buddy, no good. You know better than that.

Chchchchch, I am extremely sorry. Mainu pata nahi si ki main tuhadi dukhdi rag te hath rakh ditta. You know that proverb ‘Diamond cuts diamond’. So, I thought poison would cut poison also. However, I do request you to re-read that post. I was talking about my own third grade status not yours. If there was automatic implication then I do NOT plead innocent.

Of course, Jatts from Harayana and Western UP is entirely different lot. That has not yet poisoned their blood cross breeding with the cruelest people on earth coming from Middle East etc. So, you can hear them laugh uproariously, enjoy life fully and live like kings rather then being at the beck and call of Brahmins. By the way, when did you last visit these areas? Please do visit. You may get more surprises like Brahmins at the beck and call of Jatts rather then other way round. Most importantly, they are not in the habit of cosulting a Ready Reference Book for any and every action of theirs.

As for checking out the castes status of all those Maharajas, well, actually, I don’t know their castes. And as the things stand today, in the areas we live it is not normal to make such impolite queries. I will let you know the Status of Castes in interiors when I do a survey during my next inspection tour.

On your comments on Kashmir as per Ghalib, ‘Dil ki Tasqin ke liye Ghalib yeh khayal achha hai.

Regards, Live like a true Jatt and laugh it away.

``But one thing we always had was an intellectual tradition--one that helped a tiny community produce thousands of times its fair share of intellectual breakthroughs and advances. The mind is more powerful than the sword, if you know what I mean.``

No one in his right mind will ever deny the contribution of the Jewish people to human civilization. It has been grand, especially considering their total population (as you mentioned). I say this even though I am disgusted by the way they have treated the Palestanians over the last fifty years.
