This one sentence of yours is worth repeating until it becomes the mool-mantra for every Indian:
``Please, for India`s sake, lets stop giving apologies for Hinduism and admit a wrong when there is one.``
``Please, for India`s sake, lets stop giving apologies for Hinduism and admit a wrong when there is one.``
``Please, for India`s sake, lets stop giving apologies for Hinduism and admit a wrong when there is one.``
``Please, for India`s sake, lets stop giving apologies for Hinduism and admit a wrong when there is one.``
``Please, for India`s sake, lets stop giving apologies for Hinduism and admit a wrong when there is one.``
There can be NO progress if we keep justifying our past errors under one pretext or another. We can not be foolish enough to do what we accuse others of doing: running away from unpleasant truths by claiming everything to be a matter of historical and cultural interpretation and perception.
The human endeavor is a constant striving to become more perfect. Becoming more perfect is only possible if we are alive to the evil in our system and get rid of it from time to time. The willingness and ability to do so repeatedly has been the genious of India - of Nanak, Buddha, Mahavira, Vivekananda, the list goes on and on, like our search for the truth.
Caste may have nothing to do with Hinduism as people here understand their religion, but caste continues to be a living and horrifying reality for millions and millions of Indians. Until we are able to get rid of this monstrous system, we had better focus on eliminating this corruption of Indian thought instead of defending it.
PS: To be fair to RSaxena, I suspect he would be the last person to defend caste system!

``I want to break the stranglehold that Punjabi culture has on Sikhism...the Gurus belong to all humanity (Indians in particular) and Punjabis should not claim monopoly over them``
Brother, never has a truer word been spoken.
I am going to take the liberty of e-mailing you. Lets discuss things.

Kabuliwallah#608,
Bloody hell kabuli that was quite some post.
i think a theme is emerging on this thread of the youth taking control and positively trying to challenge the behemoths that are holding India/ Pakistan back...
I echo what Urstruly says about dreams and his advice to Aisha Sarwari. Sometimes I feel that India, and I expect it holds true to a certain extent Pakistan, are such weary worn out countries. Youthful enthusiasm may be blinkered, limited and sometimes overly idealistic, but it also has focus and knows what needs changing and has the passion to do it.
I think the cynical and jaded people should leave this thread for Aisha Sarwari and Kabuliwallah to expound upon their visions, and importantly how they are going to achieve them....
Just let them roll, because it is a pleasure to read their posts....
regards
Harpreet

Krashid,
Defeatists, and Pseudointellectuals are the biggest threat to Pakistan.

Kabuliwallah :
There is no legitimate theory (i.e., theory with any evidence) that Shankara was influenced by Arab traders.
Shankara represents the culmination of a tradition (and as is usual in such cases, the founder of another one).

Please notice that this board is in English. Would you mind using that language? Or Hindu/Urdu if you must. But definitely not that garble you seem to spewing.

Actually, the ``y`` seems to be in favor...read his recent post. Alright!!! But I fear potential offspring. Can you imagine? It would be like mixing mirchi with karela juice.

Saxena & scout,
At least ylh acknowleges his feelings about that lady from San Jose.
What about the two of you?!:)
You guys get very defensive & outraged when people point out the obvious vibes the 2 of you give out to each other. Like we are all born yesterday! Go ahead, call me a quack to your hearts desire:)
My cute little jalapeno, wait till I tell ammie what you`ve been up to on Chowk. Of course, you`ll angrily claim that you`d rather be the third wife of a goatherder from Balochistan than be hitched to that bum.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The only people who`ll believe that are the Taleban types:)
heh heh, talk about unholy unions...(GD&R)--grinning, running & ducking...

Habari! Hujambo?
:-)
Good to see a fellow African here, my mother`s family is from Nairobi, and my father is originally from India but moved over to Uganda in the 1960`s, worked in a hospital in Kampala. I only lived there for a little while, so my Kiswahili is very basic.... Was your family part of the Idi Amin exodus? I was over in Kenya last summer. Anyway, kwaheri!

jeez, I go away to Amsterdam for 4 days and miss the great conversation you guys had about Sikhism.... There is so much I wanna add to what everyone said, but I dont have the time right now, and this topic is about to fall off the edge anyway, but
sac..... British Indians / Pakistanis are hyper patriotic when it comes to cricket. When India knocked England out of the world cup in 1999, Edgbaston was three quarters full of British Indians. This is in Birmingham, England, and the home team were outnumbered three to one by English born and bred Indians who begged borrowed and stole to get tickets. Its the same for Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, as Omarphoenix will tell you. It isnt really a problem, England is a melting pot with Scots, Irish , Jamaicans all having divided loyalties these days, but everyone still has alot in common. Britain is a very multi-cultural country these days....
As for beef eating, I dont know, maybe it was the bacon sandwhiches Harbhajan Singh eats that give him his strength....
Kabuliwallah & everyone else....I hope we can resume this chat some other time.... take it easy

PM,
Thank you for the kind words. I do have a soft corner for the young, spirited and the brash. YLHs and Aishas of pakistan do not fill me with optimism, these are trying to white wash, they are not critical of their country, they are seeking easy ways out. They are droolng over Jinnah, cannot accept that with such few other religious people, secular pakistan is a absurd luxury, like air bags on a bullock cart.
Wake up YLH, jihadists are pi//sing.. on your swag.

krashid # who cares?
You are wrong . Pakistan was not created for the upliftment of the Muslims of South Asia. It was first of all created so your parents could leave India so we didnt have to have , ahem, * * * * like you in our country. Also it was created to kill Ahmadhis. Also it was created to slaughter 3 million Bengalis. Also it was created for Shia`s and Sunnis to massacre each other. Also it was created for Punjabi`s to screw Mohajirs etc etc. Do not be shy. Take pride in your country, what it stands for and what it has achieved. Also remember, as Hindus and Muslims fight in India, and you and ali1 wet your panties with glee, you also condone Muslim killing Muslim in Pakistan. Because it is halal for Muslim to murder Muslim as far as you are concerened.
Get my point, stupid?

sarwari #586:
``Now you see, I have no affinity with the Mouguls, it`s just interesting how Indians whine like a cat with a crushed tail when we mention them.``
What a liar. You are still sulking because they failed to convert the whole of India to Islam.
ha ha ha
It makes me laugh to see how riled you get at the mere mention of India or wait for it, Hindus....
Now go and ask Aunty Ruppinder about what happened in Rawalpindi next time you want to have a conversation about ``who started what``. Maybe she could write a shair about that.
By the way, you do tend to refer to purity and dirt alot, whats the matter? Is it just a general ``all Indian`s are impure thing`` or are you one of the Muslim supremacist`s who believe in the Pakistani Ubermenschen?? Either way, just go and take a shower or something.....

A quote by Bilal Musharraf form the reply of his Article.
“Some amongst us have a valid concern about how a ‘product’ of the system can be critical of the system itself. I do feel that what is at play here is bigger than the position my father is currently holding and it will play itself out for the betterment of the country. I am against dwelling too much on individuals and personalities, so I would request a move away from it. We should all submit to higher ideals of social equality and justice that we all believe in and let actions speak louder than words. On a personal side note however, I have faith that my father has the will and the spirit to see this change through. I think my father understands the importance of what this point in time means for Pakistan and its long awaited overhaul of a decaying colonial system. It should suffice to say that at this point, allegiance is to the people of Pakistan and ‘the system’ is in suspension.”
