Dear Shirin
It doesn`t seem like it is gonna happen very soon. I have been told by many that they would rather spontaneously combust than marry me.

Dear Scout,
Yes i agree with you whole heartedly ``key kuch pane key liyaein kuch khona hota hai ``.It is very common practice that drs. have to often move to different hospitals / counties / state , in order to requalify. This is something i think they are prepared for from the start.
About drs. helping pakistan and pakistanis ... i can speak for friends of mine or graduates from dow , as i get news of them .Quite a few of my classmates have returned back to Pakistan for personal reasons or whatever. They work now in the capacity of proffessors and assistant professors .Ihappened to meet a few on my last trip and hansee hansee mein poncha `` kya letein hain aik pt. ko dekhney ka ``? the response from many was a very nominal fee , and free treatment for those deserving .This was at their private clinic. Also some of the Allumni have been very successful at setting up and modernising the various units , with latest knowledge , which is a great form of help. you dont just help through monetory ways only .
A friend has set up a paediatric cancer treatment unit at one of the local hospitals there .Most of its financial needs are met through donations from the allumni. we are immediately reported , and money is sent for its upkeep whenever there is a shortfall. So help is there in many forms ... how can we forget our own people and our own soil ... impossible ... no matter in which cosy corner of the world we may be living in .
love,
shirin
ROmair ,
I will be very happy to provide you with a complete list of the total no. of medical colleges in pakistan. just give me some time to get the info.Sadly i do not have it on the tip of my fingers , again the reason being staying away from pakistan for so long ......

Woh To Amrika Ka Raasta Khul Guya. American Medical Association Ke Karam se glamour Hai.
Varna Pakistan Mein Doctor Ki Auqat Wohi Naw Se Baara Hai.
Is Se Acchha Rishta To Custom officer or police officer Ka Hota Hai.
Aur Lady doctor Dekh Kar Hur SaaS Ke Mun Mein Paani Aa Jata Hai.(Aur Larke Ka Pitta Pani Ho Jata Hai)
For male doctors it is ``Larka Doctor Hai Pur Karta Kia Hai``
For female doctors the title is enough.

Only one question for you.
Can you name any prominent people from your clinical group. Just curious.
Shahid Qureshi, Qamrul-Huda, Izhar Ahmed, Pervez Alvi.
Your class was probably the best class Dow has produced.

Krashid # 102,
Yes all these names are known to me .Do you mean Izhar-ul haq instead of Izhar Ahmed? The latter does not sound so familiar , but yes the rest do.Actualy some others from my batch were Waqar Ayub, Nadeem zafar, shahab ghani, Iftikhar Ahmed to name a few , and samreena hashmi [married to Qamar-ul -Hoda ],
Shabana naqvi ,Sarah Shahab, Taj Ahmed .I hope some of these names are familiar to you .Kindly let me know if you are a dow alumnus too, and if so which year did you qualify ? i would love to hear .It is always very exciting to hear from a fellow member , esp. in ``beech choraha ``, when least expected !! so now you can feel the degree of excitement in my earlier post :)

Yes I meant Izhar-ul-Haq.
Is this the same Iftikhar Ahmed who was presidential candidate from Jamiat.
Sarah Shahab the granddaughter of Qudratullah Shahab married in Dubai did her surgical internship when I was resident in Liaquat National Hospital.
I am one year junior to you. May be you know Umar Daraz, Khalid Anwar, etc.

Bina, sorry to use this space, but it`s rather important... amd for a good cause.....
I`m trying to help a kid pay for some IT course he`s taking at an SSI institute in Bombay. I need to ascertain the fee structure, and payment schedule for this course, as well as the duration... it`s called IMPACT.
Anyone willing to provide info may email me @ postmatser@yahoo.com.
Please do help if u can... It could give a helpless kid a `chance` at life.
With thanks,
PM

Krashid,
Very nice to hear from you , as a fellow member .Iftikhar Ahmed [IFTI] You are right , stood for president from jamiat.
Sarah did her residency in paeds , and i think went off to dubai then. she must have done her surgical internship in liaqat the following year.
Amrah shahab must have been with you, who married Mansoor pirzada from our batch .
Have you heard of the Allumni site for Dow ? It has been started by DR. Rizwan Karatela`84.its quite nice , do look it up and try to join in !
I think you would know a few people writing there .It is both a social and an academic forum, though more social now. more like a nostalgic site , remembering the snack corner , and ``Those were the days ``!!
incidentally where are you placed these days ? do let me know ?
very nice talking to you , please identify your full name to me .
yes the names of your friends are very familiar to me .Unfortunately since it has been such a long time , the faces are a bit blurred. You can appreciate that , with the huge clases we had ! it is becoming so difficult to remember names / faces of colleagues from my on class who in those days were just mere acquaintances .However in this stage of life , it is very nice to hear from old friends , regardless of whether we knew them or not .I realy miss the Dow days ... do you ?
take care , and very nice talking to you .
Regards,
Shirin
p.s sorry bina for making this sound as a lost and found site for the moment !!

Shirin Ahmed #110:
Since you are following this thread --- please go to the Speaker`s Forum (bottom left corner) and click on replies -- go to #209 --- this the third draft of what I had hoped would be a series of Karachi Vignettes.
Since you have discovered Chowk I think you would enjoy the `asli chouraha`. And thanks!
love,
t
PS: Bina, apologise for this digression.

Probably you would not know me.
My name is Khusro Rashid.
Who can forget Dow days.
I am presently in a suburb in Texas.
Happy with three kids and work.
I used to visit the site created by Karatela and contributed one or two interacts there. Sometimes that site is down. I have not visited it for last two years or so. (But it gives information who is where)
But the news there of paralysis of Prof Shafi Qureshi was devastating. I did my internship with him. And I was very sad. I think he is in London. If God wills, I wish to visit that gentle soul, one day, once again.
