Dear Sana,

Let me be the first to welcome you to this place (unless t somehow manages to change the temporal flux shielding, thereby increasing the magnetic poleron emitter to increase the warp plasma conduits to release a burst of tachyon beam…err as in getting there before me).

Liked the poem but for me, the subject was a case of `been there, done that.` Then again, there`s no such thing as original literature; it`s about the way you rehash it.

What I would like to know is, and please forgive me if it sounds rude or intrusive in any manner, but how much are you willing to sacrifice or work towards to make sure that some of those unfortunate ones do not suffer a bad fate. If you do not wish to say anything, I would understand. I merely ask this question to learn something.

I don`t know how the system works but if feasible, would it be possible to set up a separate section on Chowk which deals specifically with Charitable organisations, NGOs etc, their contacts, history, their missions, their annual reports, people`s experiences in working for charities, outcomes, useful ideas and so forth. I`m sure we could all contribute a little bit at a time to this particular spot and eventually give rise to something that may actually have practical implications.

PS (and this is just for the sake of learning) but would anyone know of any strictly Pakistani based (endogenous) organisations that actually send the volunteers to the site of action as opposed to the usual donations.

Take care and best wishes.

UMP.

Invitation for all CHOWK Folks .........

Budding novelists try their luck on Indian website

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - More than 150 would-be novelists have e-mailed opening chapters to an Indian website which is looking for a first-time author who can ``give (Salman) Rushdie a run for his money``.

``It`s a talent search for first-time authors,`` Sanjeev Mehra, chief operating officer of www.oxfordbookstore.com, told Reuters on Monday. ``There`s a lot of garbage but a lot of good ones.``

The website launched the first stage of its competition on March 1, opening a one-month window for unpublished authors to submit the first chapter of an English-language work of fiction.

The panel of judges will select the best three, whose authors will have until the end of August to complete their novels.

The winning novelist will pocket 30,000 rupees ($640), there will also be cash prizes for the runners-up and the books of all three will be published on the website.

The panel includes Brooklyn-based novelist Amitav Ghosh, writer and columnist Shoba De and Star News television anchorman Vikram Chandra, whose first novel was published last year.

Sana, welcome to the fringe!
Powerful message here for many CHOWK readers.
I`m glad that this is finally poetry week. The
reply section count should nosedive without
sex or Kashmir.

Ras

Sana,

Beautiful! I love it. I don`t say this to many poems. I thought it was difficult to describe sunset in a unique style, but you have done it. When I say that I love your poem, it is because the images you have used are very effective. And the language too. Keep on writing. High Five!

Dear Sana:

Welcome to the Chowk! I am not a literary person, but I do understand that you have tried to convey a few thought-provoking concerns.

Let us hope that the next 50 years are one of peace and prosperity in India, Pakistan, other Asian neighbors, and the rest of the world. Thanks!

Sincerely, Bilal Ahmad

Re : Aeisha

Are you indian?

The correct word is ghussa and no Pakistani or anybody in their right mind would quote songs from indian ``filum`` industry as proof of their assertions. :)

You do have a point. The choice of pseudonym is rather inept, however.

Asim

RE: Aeisha

``Muslim women have have far greater rights than hindu ``

Yup, like the right to be killed by husband, father, or brother in order to save the family`s honour. To be covered in a black bedsheet from head to toe in the hot summer sun. And to walk 10 steps behind the man she married. And to share her husband with 3 other women. And to get kicked out of the house with three simple words: TALAKH, TALAKH, TALAKH.

And of course, should she ever get raped, she better produce a few male witnesses, or else....

Cheers

Rsuxena #17,

Please don`t generalize your conceptions of Indian movie characterizations of Muslims to Pakistan. I know you`re limited to that, but open your mind.

I personally think you`re scared of knowing the true nature of the average Pakistani woman because you`re afraid of losing the mental images of Muslim women fed by your media.

Don`t take the easy way out buddy.

roses are red

Rsaxena is an icky old roach in my loo

he reeks of petroleum,

regurgitated boiled rice,

of droppings of pigeons

and farts shot by mice

of hydrogen sulphide and

remnants of the flu

phlegm coughed by millions

of retards that he knew

of gullets of buffalo

of crap soaked in cream

defacation dump opened

Kirk`s half only beamed

blood spurts from incisions

and flesh thus exposed

failed circumcissions:

the organs disposed

of briefs during papers

of socks shed by mouts

of breath in the mornings

and the pellets of goats

my apologies to anNy and fundi for whom this series of `rhymes`is somethingspecial;0)..also excuse the slight tampering..but daaaeeemn this man is obnoxious
