I am a writer, poet, visualizer, meditator.......

And by being all these, it`s really difficult to find something that matches one`s own parameters. Eventually, I am not immediately impressed or moved by many of the literary works of others, when I surreptitiously view my own works as superior to them. However, I was instantly moved by this poem... A very nice piece of work, an excellent expression in words of your thoughts and feelings.

Would like to counter the comment given by rsaxena. This is not about the ghetto relationship women always face; no matter India or Pakistan. This expression is about the essence of life. Yes, love does die, a little death every now and then, unless we keep it ignited. And it`s up to the lovers to keep the hearth of love ignited. What the poet has expressed is a shear reality of life, and you have to know how to appreciate literature to appreciate and understand the veiled motivation in this poem.

dont know how i missed this when it came on chowk originally. how lovely. how true. bit by bit indeed. good stuff zeejah, the pain goes, the pangs lessen but one little bit of memory that will screech across the mind and your heart stops- everything comes back. a little death at a time

I was wondering Zeejah, if you know that in French, ``la petite morte`` translated as ``the little death`` means an orgasm.

qrazy #43, ``why is it that we are so entangled in the borders and land that we forget that we all stem from the same place.``

No way, I`m not buying that! There`s no way that I stemmed from the same place as Rsaxena.

Hell no! :}

Re: qrazy

I agree with the sentiment of your post, although I`m too much of a cynic (and perhaps perpetrator) to find it realistic.

There is a line in Mrs. Roosevelt`s poem which I take exception with:

``To handle yourself, use your head;

To handle others, use your heart.``

Depends who ``others`` is. If it`s family, sure. If not, that is setting oneself up.

hmmmm does life have to be so b&w

But guilty as charged - though not for misquoting but just adding my own twist.

``to get rid of riffraff such as yourself, with the valour of her tongue.``

All these Aisha Aesha Faishas can take their hijabs and tie them tight around their necks. Let`s see how far those ``tongues of valour`` go when the male authority figures in their families marry them off (if they haven`t already) to some Riyaz Fiyaz Raza Faza Khan Fhan cousin from Lahore madrassah.

Hmmmm I believe someone has misquoted Mark Twain

Mark twain actually said `Familiarity breeds contempt ..and children ` :-)

As far as lovin ones father and mother ...as the ultimate form of love

I believe they lay the foundation on how we deal with male/female relationships.Personally more often then not ..I have seen women more capable of balancing their love for their father/parents

and maintaining normal caring relationships with other males in their lives ..the same unfortunately cannot be said for the male desi ..of which I am a proud member :P we are far too fickle :)

Rsaxena,

Are you alright, my dear indian friend? Or the jolly season of Spring has finally caught up with you out there in steely grey NY?

It not in your nature to be so pontificating and dealing so casually with such obvious truths, without taking shots at others. :) nudge! nudge!

Re: Ariel

``Why do we at times hate the people we love most??``

Because we care enough to be hurt by them.

``I hope I can hold together some of the shattered rose-tinted glasses that keep me believing in the ultimate love``

Sorry to break this to you but there is no such thing as ``ultimate`` romantic love. As a wise person once said to me, the only woman who will ever truly love you unconditionally is your mother and the only man who will ever truly love you unconditionally is your father. Some people learn to make sacrifices and out of convenience or personal need sustain long, lasting marriages.

Very nice poem. Had a couple of thoughts on the lines of identity but some other time...

Not really - havent you heard of - Too much familiarity breeds contempt : )

hi zee,

how are you ? .havent heard from u from so long

well zee .. love never dies ..

if its dead .. it wasnt love ,,

its like what they say ,,

if the one is not your friend now

he never actually was ur friend

so if love can die with lil decit

or harsh words , or a careless one .

i wont call it love ..

as u said it before...

in love its always giving not taking ..

so if ur not asking for anything ,,

then u cant get hurt ,,

u only get hurt when u dont get what u have expected ,,

but as ever a good read ,, and damn i like to read ur stuff ...

peace ..

Well done Parveen. One billion people of this world salute you. India needs more brave ladies like Parveen who can send jihadis to hell. Parveen has killed 15 jihadis(possibly) till now and with God`s blessings she will complete her century. DEATH TO ALL THE JIHADIS. MOTHER EARTH HAS TO BE CLEANSED OF THESE JIHADIS. And all of us Indians will have to do our own bit of sacrifice. Come Paki jihadis, we will send each of you to hell like C-in-C of Lashkar Salahuddin.

http://www.indian-express.com/ie/daily/20010330/ina30043.html

``Parveen is the only woman commando in Rajauri and among three senior level women police inspectors in the SOG. She signed up just six years ago, but already, there`s talk of her having killed 15 terrorists. It`s a story that Parveen dismisses, but it fits in with her tough-as-nails look: khaki dungarees, sneakers and camouflage commando cap. The only detail missing is the police jungle boots: they don`t fit her.

``

``No surprises here: she derives inspiration from that other tough woman cop, Kiran Bedi. ``She is India`s first woman police officer. I read about her in newspapers and magazines. I really want to meet her and tell her that she`s a great influence. I wonder if I will ever get the chance,`` she says.

Does she have any suitors? ``I don`t know,`` smiles Parveen. ``I am married to my AK-47.``

``

so true what you wrote.. too long too many times u turn away hoping that it is not anger and then before u know it you have turned so far that the people that u thought were close are really so far. its times like this that u need faith and belief that these people were never close and the ones that are close are nearby and u just need to believe and they will appear...and the anger turns to love..

Lovely stuff!

RSaxena: Depressing? Product of dysfunctional relationships? I dunno, I read this not just as a commentary on the death of romantic love, but of love (and the sense of wonder) in the broader sense. The love of life/living, perhaps?

PM

P.S. I`m waiting for some ultra-feminist to put a this-wouldn`t-happen-if-you-weren`t-so-dependent-in-the-first-place spin on this wonderfully human poem.

``ASK,India be a state with its own corruption ,& bankruptsy``

First of all, check you spelling of ``bankruptsy``. And yeah India is not bankrupt. Last time I read India had foreign exchange of $42 billion, that is more than the total debt of Paksitan. Indian economy is booming falsifying all doomsayers at a rate of 6-7%. The poverty rate has come down to 26% from 36% in a decade and soon we will eradicate all the poverty at this rate. Now compare all this with Pakistan and weep. Pakistan is a failed state and the whole world knows that. Pakistan`s obsession with Kashmir will become the undoing of Pakistan. Stop dreaming about Kashmir that you people wont get anyway and save your country. If CIA reports are to be believed, there is a high probability that there would be no country called Pakistan a couple of decades later.

That goof-up of #16 notwithstanding, this is what I had posted:

Do you really want to know when love dies and why? Why are we like that, seeking immortality, when we come with an expiry date for everything, including ourselves?

Lovely lines. Don`t ask me which ones. Just let the words flow... and yes we die a little. How I wish it were more!

I believe both`of your countries can not afford to even conventional arms race let alone a nuclear one. You guys should stick to improving your populations basic standard of living. I personally believe that Pakistan has no justification being a state. It is totally corrupt and bankrupt. It should be divided equally between Iran and India. I think that may happen in the future anyway.

Ahhaa! Now that was what I call poetry. Was that impromptu? You see my point? Even our English poetry (by desis) need a healthy dose of lassi. Well people! excuse my penuche if I have trouble considering the following as poetry. A nice short article would have sufficed, wouldnt it?

``his room

pictures of einstein and max planck from a special issue of the sydney morning herald are on the walls.``

Dude, lady, whatever,

You are the lamest Paki I have ever taken on on Chowk. Either get some creativity and intelligence or buzz-off. Even krashid with half his neurons inactive fares better than you.

What next? Let`s see, if your pattern holds you`re going to write some garbage on Hindus and/or India in broken English followed by a 2-year-old news story on India from the wild-n-wacky section. So, so predictable.

Zeejah,

That was beautiful.Read it so many times , and discovered something new everytime .Words eloquently spread on the canvass ....

``Each time you leave in anger

I die a little death

Until you return.

Life quickens then,

Joyously awakening

And I live again. ``

reminds me of a beautiful verse from Mirza Ghalib

`` MEHR BAAN HO KEY BULLA LO, MUJHE CHAHO JIS WAQT,

MEIN GIYA WAQT NAHIN HOON, KEY PHIR AA BHI NA SAKOON.``

Though both the verses are not exactly synchronised, but both have that feeling of ``Want `` in love !

Will definately visit this site again. My comliments to you for a wonderful piece !

Thanks,& Take care !

Shirin

Now this poem is good and I understood all of it as compared to one by Sarwari and Dreamer. But I will have to agree with Rsaxena that there has been a string of depressing poems being published at Chowk lately-mostly written by ladies-this poem is an exception; it aint so bad. I think the common denominator under all this depression is not the ``relationships`` but it is deficiency of vitamins and calcium because of the self imposed anorexia by the ladies. I think our doctors on Chowk, Shirin and Krashid, will second my recommendation to use milk, lassi, butter, dahi, parathay, Nihari, Payay and tandoori chicken in abundance. This regimen cures everything.
