AAir,
jokes from dawn of today, opinion section
Defiance and corruption
By Kunwar Idris
MAINTAINING law and order is the first duty of a government whatever its other pursuits or preferences. This rule is recognized by all governments except by the government of Pakistan or, at least, by the administrator of its capital city.
According to a recent report in this paper, Islamabad`s district magistrate is prosecuting 150 shopkeepers for not employing security guards. Quite obviously the district magistrate thinks it is not his duty at all to maintain law and order, leave aside his first duty. If he cannot put the robbers in prison, then he must their potential victims.

[Mughal-e-Azam and a film by Indian actor Sheikh Mukhtar have been the only exceptions after screening of Indian films was banned in Pakistan in mid-1950s. Mukhtar, who migrated to Pakistan in 1965, was given special permission by then President Zia-ul Haq on compassionate ground. No Indian song or film has been shown in Pakistan on TV or cinema.]
Why the exception for Mughal-e-Azam? Did Akbar also migrate to Pakistan? I thought he liked being the emperor of Hindustan. Or, was his title Kaiser-e-Pakistan?

AAmir,
Keep all those statistics ready for the requium of pakistan, carried out through euthenesia by a country in whose praise you will recite the statistics. The day is not very far, your wait is coming to an end, the tormented nation is to take its last breath.
regards and better collection in the mean time.
jay.

Double standards:
If the citizens ruled by the Pakistani Army for 25+ years are deemed unfit to criticise or even discuss the Army because they cannot know its ``inner workings`` well enough, by the same token how can Indians know enough about the inner workings of their Army to be asked to criticise it? Our only contact with our Army is seeing them once an year for 2hrs on TV during the Republic Day parade.

AAmir,
Take it easy, let some new information come to you. You dont have to post the same thing three times, especially when you had been posting this report for the last few weeks.
At least check the dictionary for a new word `nacrophelia`, that would be a an addition to your vocabulary, and check with a shrink. Just move on to another carcass, that would be something new.
regards and best wishes. Dont treat news items as the book, the only book that you keep reading and reading and reading and reading till the mind is fully closed.

harimau #246 So at last we have a response to my post #214.
You write : ``Just like the girl`s silence is taken to be acceptance of the marriage proposal, why don`t you take my silence as acceptance of your proposal?``
You are so-o-o-o bashful. :-) I wasnt exactly proposing marriage. It was more like a gentleman`s agreement that I suggested. Anyway, I take it then that we do have a deal.
``After I read your post #214, I have not posted anything at all. A few posts might have gotten in before I read your post but I have been silent on all boards.``
Why be silent. Surely you have lots to talk about other than talking about besides how bad we Pakis are (remember some of the things I suggested in my earlier post, or you could tell us about some real life incidents that made an impression on you for example).
``I have no compliments to offer Krashid, AAmir, headshrinker and a few others on both sides of the border.``
Fine. I have full respect for your opinions about individual posters even if I do not agree, and may even share them partly or fully with you (as in case of AAmir, e.g.).
``I haven`t gone out to pick a quarrel with a lot of your people.``
I think we should stop thinking in terms of your people and my people. Political boundries are trivial things, particularly as people move around increasingly freely in the world. Religious affiliations are accidents of birth for most people, and the core of all religions is the same (and that core message is by definition violated by those who claim to be the biggest defenders of their faith). We should by all concerned only about one set of people: future generations, since they belong to all of us.
``My very first appearance was started by Pakistanis calling Hindus penis worshippers.``
Let me assure you that Pakistanis in real life do not spend their time discussing this. This is a common theme with those who trade insults on chowk though, and simply demonstrates that they are vicious individuals who have no understanding for either what they think is their own religion (Islam) or of Hinduism.
``Where were you when Ali1 asked Harpreet to go cut his hair? So, you didn`t keep your end of the bargain.``
It so happens that I did write a post in response to Ali1 on that (#746 on board Sher Shah Suri) which I have cut and paste below for your convenience: ``Harpreet is one of the most reasonable people I have come across on chowk (I say this based on earlier interactions). I have not followed your earlier discussion with him, but if at the end you have been unable to establish any kind of a dialogue with him (and insulting remarks of the type in your email do not constitute a dialogue) then I think the problem is with you, not him.``
Of course I cant be there 24/7 as I mentioned in the deal, but I do what I can as I hope you will too to make chowk a slightly more pleasant and interesting experience.

I find it funny that today we Indians are deriding Pakistan as a failed economy. What Pakistan is experiencing today, India has seen in the 70s and early 80s. So before anyone starts gloating about our ``superior`` economy, we should remember that for almost three decades Pakistan had a higher growth rate, and a higher per capita income than India. If in the last decade our economy has done better, we should be thankful to god instead of putting others down.
On another front, religion is a very personal thing. By debating in crude terms on chowk, it is unlikely that we will be able to convert anyone to our own point of view (whatever the alleged benefits this confers). The only purpose discussing religion here serves is to antagonize and provoke. For myself, I think that using god for petty purposes like this is very disrespectful to him.
In any case, not everything in this world is about religion.

``How about throwing back the dirt at the individual Paki poster then, rather than all 135 million of us? Like targetted ``smart weapons`` we could call them ``smart posts`` which make the perpetrator really, really sorry he said what he said without your having to lower yourself``
I will try my best but please forgive me if my hot blood gets the better of me from time to time...

anNy #237 I am taking my bows now. I think I am getting good at this peacemaking business.
Harpreet #234 Well said. I think it is the mark of a dynamic culture that people are proud of what they do, be it manual work or knowledge work.
