I think some people just abhor mathematics (maybe they find it hard to understand). Its not their fault because they aren`t born with a built-in math coprocessor. Don`t waste too much energy in stooping down to their wavelength. It would be you who may lose something in the end. Contrary to Binifer`s views I found your reply to Bijli quite amusing. I appreciate your efforts in pointing out that success rates of individuals in every 6th game is quite a remarkable achievement. I would say one thing though. Maybe you would like to look at Half-centuries too as a partial success. One cannot totally discount them. Nevertheless a good attempt to prove your point.

Farzee

Dear Binifer,
Just because you don`t have the spine to stand up to your verbal excretions does not mean that you get gifted the final say. Very convenient for you to deem yourself `dignified` as you fire off some insults while running with your tail on fire. I`d just like you to know that I can go on with the likes of you forever... so just try me babe.
As far as having a nice life goes.... I already do but thank you very much regardless.
Now then... since its an eye for an eye... here goes:
I wish you loose your genetalia in an accident involving a fishing hook & a meat slicer!
Hugs & Kisses

P.S: While you are defending your lover Bijli here, should you have any integrity whatsoever you should visit the psychobabble`s board and defend his verbal defecations there as well.

Dear Binifer,
I couldn`t agree with you more. As it turns out Anjum and I were doing precisely that...exchanging ideas. Until of course your lover Bijli dropped in with mucus dripping from all orifices.
There seems to be a special breed of people on the Internet discussion fora. These are the nimrods that run into discussions foaming at the mouth essentially objecting to the discussion itself and not the content thereof. Anybody is welcome to come and disagree with me but calling me names and chastising from having a discussion period is not going to fly with me.
As for you... This is not the first time I have seen a post from you that betrays who you are.
Your wish that my nose gets broken and that I have a horrible day is very touching indeed. Please allow me to reciprocate in kind:
1. I wish 10 donkeys take turns kicking you in the ass.
2. I wish 10 dogs take turns peeing and crapping on your shoes.
3. I wish you get 10 speeding tickets and the big butch cop applies full cavity searches.
4. I wish you get homeless and spend your life in a shelter `exchanging ideas` with other hobos.
And Finally...
5. I wish none of your wishes came true.
Toodlee doo.

Dear Bijli,
You said: ``You spend all your time working with meaningless numbers of runs ,wickets,& time like sonme laid off CODE COOLIE,going around calling himself I.T. professionals.``
Boy where did you learn your English? If I were you I`d enroll myself in the neighborhood community college & take Grammar 101 at the earliest. At least I wont make a complete fool of myself like you do.
Now then, about my time.... I do retain the prerogative to spend it in any which manner I may choose. Having said that however, it is quite off the mark of you to assume that I spend `all my time working with meaningless numbers`. These numbers are readily available at cricinfo.org.
Getting back to your penchant for fumbling around making an ass of yourself, please duly note that I am neither `laid off`, nor a `code coolie`, and most certainly do not go around calling myself `I.T. professionals`.
You said: Nothing comes out of brooding ,staring at bunch of numbers rearranging them according to your fancy.Games are played as Sports dont try to make it something else -challenger,task,subject of thesis, over Analysed!!
So when you do go to Jimmy`s Family Owned & Operated Community College, also please take a course in basic communication because I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Please allow me the liberty to loosely interpret what your yap hole is struggling to spout. I think you mean the following: ``The affairs of sports are trivial & no good come out of analyzing statistics relating to sports``. Now you are certainly entitled to your opinion but I would say that if widely accepted notions regarding the importance of sports and the relevance of statistics in sports are to be considered the norm; then your opinion seems to come from `way out in left field`. In simple words more commensurate with your level of perception therefore: `you`re a whacko`!
You said: ``There are hardly cricketer these days who plays to win,as concerned as you sideline cheer leaders hope. Ask Azhar,he liked Gold more than winning`` !!!
Again Sir, should you have the desire to be taken with even a modicum of seriousness in any forum whatsoever I would urge you to strongly consider some language lessons. There are probably a good 200 cricketers right now who are in contention to play test cricket. There are probably a 1000 more who fancy their chances and another 10000 more that play first class cricket of some sort. In your esteemed opinion it seems that if one man is corrupt it logically follows that every single peer of his is too. Based on your logic, having taken in your post number 16 in this discussion thread, one would have to conclude that all humans are complete raving lunatics. That wouldn`t be fair to the entire race would it? To vilify it based upon the performance of one bad apple? So please reconsider your position.
In conclusion:
Anjum wrote an article on cricket. I along with others responded talking about nothing but the topic at hand. And then you barge in screaming and cursing. Now ask yourself this:
If Anjum and I were at a gathering talking about cricket quietly in a corner, would you come barging in and tell us to our face that we are wasting our time? Would you have the balls to look at me in the face and accuse me of being a `laid off code coolie` because I was discussing cricket statistics? NO YOU WOULDNT! So why do you behave like that in a discussion forum? Because you are a coward! That`s why!
So understand this my friend. Your English is horrible. Your logical reasoning is of simian proportions. And you are a coward.
Have a nice day!

You talk as if you could almost predict victory & defeat based on your complicated pseudoscientific variables.

Re: First Slip
Mike Ditka was a great coach. His 85 Bears are considered by many as the greatest team ever. Even better than the 72 Dolphins which went undefeated. His second stint with the saints may not have been as effective but he had a very different talent pool to play with.
It is also wrong to say that great coaches are not great players. Landry played corner for 6 years, Shula played corner for 5 years, Noll played line backer for 7 years, Halas played end for 11 seasons & of course Ditka played tight end for 11 years.
There might be some truth to the fact that players on defense & special teams are more likely to make great coaches since they observe the game more and are not full of themselves like the offence.
Same applies to the DH in baseball as he sits next to the manager all game long.

Anjum Sahab,
Loved your article about cricket (and Pakistan). Funny enough, thats exactly what I was saying to my Dad the other day. How Pakistan cricket team is a miniature version of the Paktisani Nation as a whole. We as a Nation tend to get b0red very easily. We need a big change and we need it fast. Every single time we have a political change in Pakistan, we all get really excited that now all our problems are over and we reached our goal, while in fact it`s only just the begining... and nothing can be achieved whithout team work and consistent effort. So in a year 6 months we realise that ``nothing`s happening`` and we get bored. we loose our consentration and start ``give up`` on the situation and start looking for easier and faster ways out.
I think it`s very much the same with our cricket team. We enter with great confidence and spirit, If the ``dice`` rols well and we land on a six and then there`s no stoping us ... but as you say, that doesn`t happen a majority of the times. So rather then putting our heads down and working our way out of trouble, we give up hope. And it`s not very often that we see our team make a come back to be remembered (like in Sharjah or Lord`s second test between england and pakistan in i think 92?!?!).
I`ve notice how we have a tendency to act like sheep when we play cricket. If we see early wickets falling, we never change our style and get defensive and try and control the fall of wickets. Every single player wants to come in and hit nothing but a six every single ball. Afridi is a great play (one sixth of the times) but it`s like he`s running on DURACELL or something. I think we need to take his bateries out and put some old ones in. It`s a shame that after Imran Khan, we always had great ballers, But afther Miandad, we never got a batsman like him. We really could do with one. Some one who know`s when to hit sixes and when to stand fast. I think the we still have lots of ``great`` batsmen, but the only ``sensible`` batsman I can think of is Yousaf Yohana. Saeed Anwar is cool but he`s never had a proper partner to run with him. Afridi is a big hit or miss guy, i think his bigges down fall was his quickest century in the world, cause now it seems as if that`s all he can think of. Inzamam .... emmm well he i think, NEEDS TO RUNNNN.
Regards,
Placebo

Dear Mr. Anjum,
Looks like your analysis of the issue has some
real stuff in it. The mental toughness is an
outcome of a very well organized cricketing setup
and letting the players come through that setup
and not through streets. You can get quality
players from streets but the possibility is they
won`t be the schemers you need in the field (I
understand and know there are exceptions like
Miandad and Akram - but you can`t base your
cricketing setup on exceptions.). Not only that
our cricketrs lack a solid educational background
they also lack a solid firstclass experience which
iron your abilities to handle pressure and the
demands of playing at highest level. I think that
PCB need to have a real shrewed coach who can
instill (or at least try to) mental toughness in
these teenagers. Again coach does not need to be a
great player he should be a great coach and a
strong personality (like in NFL how many great
footbal coaches you can name who were pro-stars -
I can only think of Mike Detka, but he never was a
great coach, ask the fans of Saints).
PCB needs to strengthen Pakistan`s doemstic
cricket setup otherwise be an average team we are.
