{{ Agreed that shias are being killed in large numbers and that too doctors and other professionals (an aunt says it?s a conspiracy?kill all the doctors..phir hamara ilaaj kaun karrae ga?) }}
This is one question I`ve been meaning to ask. Why are doctors and professionals targeted? I can imagine sectarian terrorists targeting lawyers defending (people whom they consider) Shia terrorists... but doctors?? Are these doctors politically active Shias?
I admit I cannot think of any motive other than anNy`s aunt`s conspiracy theory. Anybody else has a better theory?

anNy #184 Thanks for an excellent post. I admire the patience with which you explain the ABCs of being a human being. People who are frustrated in life due to their own inadequacies or due to economic uncertainty are the ones who are foremost in indulging in communal or ethnic hate-mongering. A person who is at peace with himself or herself is generally the one who is at peace with other people on this planet as well (as you obviously are).

Dear Ali,
The letter that you have reproduced was indeed freaky. Moreso since I am a living eating breathing member of the khoja shia community in Karachi. May I mention that almost all of the individuals mentioned- dead, alive and endowing away I have had the pleasure of knowing. I go to the Hussaini Bagh with my dad every Thursday to offer fateha at my grandparents grave. Doctor Pirani`s grave there is very fresh with gulaab kae phool kae haar on it still pink. Also Dr. Sibtain a few days before he was shot, treated my broken thumb. Besides all of these people mentioned, we have lost so many other people. All those who while praying fajar namaaz at the mehfil e murtaza some years ago were shot in the early hours before dawn in P.E.C.H.S. The entire city remained closed in mourning for 3 days. And this mourning was not of a strike nature like your beloved fools do every few days. It was, my father says a crime against humanity. Nobody should have to worry about their lives while praying. It was not a crime against shias or khojas. Not even muslims. It was one against humans. My father a devout man and an active member of the community insists to his children and others at every opportunity possible that it is this close mindedness that is destroying the nation. If shias are dieying today, so are sunnis and wahabis and christians and sindhis and balochies and punjabis and mohajirs. Agreed that shias are being killed in large numbers and that too doctors and other professionals (an aunt says it’s a conspiracy…kill all the doctors..phir hamara ilaaj kaun karrae ga?) But at the end of the day we are all humans. And after that we are muslims (or non muslims) and then Pakistanis. And thank god that an other wise pretty moronic community has leaders who don’t promote the kind of crap your people do. We are told time and time again that we are first and foremost Pakistanis.
I`m speaking here for all like minded Shia`s. Before anything else- khojas, gujratis, africans, kacheez- we will be Pakistanis. And this common identity ali, you should share too. Because if we go out hunting those who killed our doctors and you those who killed your mohajir men, chances are we`ll both end up shooting each other in the gut andhaerae mae. A common goal would enable us to fight all those people killed as cold bloodedly as the doctors, be it christians on the pretext of blasphemy or wahabis for not adhering to mainstream muslim thoughts. My religion and my country dictate that I be tolerant towards others faith and religion and creeds. And besides anyone can go out and kill. Bigshit. Whats difficult is to be patient and pray to Allah mian for justice and peace in the midst of so much mayhem, lawlessness and senseless deaths. The letter I`m reproducing below is one from the same place u reproduced that other letter. I wish so bad all of us would start thinking like this man.
Pakistani first (letters to the ed...Dawn 28th June)
I`m very proud of the fact that my parents were Mohajirs and this pride is only for the reason that they contributed in the creation of Pakistan by deciding to leave their dear ones, their birth place and migrating to Pakistan.
An example of their sacrifice can be gauged from the fact that when my grandmother died in India, my father, who was then in the Air Force, could not even go to attend her burial and console his sisters. The sad part was that he had no one here also, with whom to share his grief, because we were too young to offer our shoulders for him to cry.
* *But having said that I would dare anyone to call me or my generations a Mohajir. We`re Pakistanis first and foremost and it`s not anyone corner of Pakistan with which we identify ourselves. I feel as comfortable in Karachi as any other place in Pakistan.
The love and affection I`ve received is not only from the Urdu-speaking community, but from each and every corner of the country. Rather my best of friends are from among the Pathans, Punjabis and Sindhis.
I mention all this to only implore Barrister Baacha that please do not isolate the Urdu-speaking Pakistanis by your writings (which I normally admire). Just because a majority of them have been influenced by people like Altaf Hussain, does not mean that their love for Pakistan is diminishing. Do we still identify all Germans or Italians with Hitler and Mussolini only? So please do not identify the Urdu-speaking people with the likes of Altaf Hussain or Afaq Ahmed only.
I can say with full confidence not only for myself and my coming generations, but for the vast majority of Urdu-speaking Pakistanis, that we were borne as Pakistanis will live as Pakistanis and die for Pakistan. * *

WHO IS RAW AGENT.
I have some idea. RAW agents:
1- Have broken Pakistan into two.
2- Have sabotaged the constitution.
3- Have usurped the rights of Pakistanis.
Who are Mohajirs:
1- Who have sacrificed for the creation of Pakistan.
2- Who have given their sweat and blood for sustaining Pakistan and are still languishing in Bangladesh for this crime.
3- Who are demanding the rights of people and fighting for it.
You can judge for yourself who is RAW agent and who is patriot.
A parasitic instititution which has never defended its borders, which has invaded its own country many times. Whose rank and file abscond to foreign countries after filling their pockets with Aid money and leaving the whole nation to pay the debt. Who is RAW agent, I don`t know. Judgung by actions, it is clear that our armed forces have done and are doing irreparable harm to the people of Pakistan.
Will army be another Gorbachev for Pakistan. The situation is rapidly moving in that direction.

It is important to form a frame of reference.
If the frame of reference of Pakistan is Punjabi, Sindhi, Baluchi, Mohajir, Pathan then why all this dragging of logic.
What is your frame of reference. First be clear in your mind.
If the frame of reference is equal rights, for all people of Pakistan we can talk. If the frame of reference is Islam we can talk. If the frame of refernce is hegemony of Punjab we can talk.
For example, police is a provincial subject. There is no say of any other province in this matter according to constitution. (Which constitution?). Islamically the police behaviour needs to be condemned with full force regardless of where they belong to. If it is the matter of hegemony of Punjab then it is the right of people of Sind to resist it with full force.
In which frame of referrence you are talking?

Dear Campeon # 175
As far as I can remeber the main culprit was awarded death penalty. I can attest that. However, in of his posts Ali1 informed us that the death penalty was reduced to a life sentence in the first Benazir government.
I am also relying on my memory to recall that the high court judge who had awarded the death penalty, also issued a gag order to the media to further discuss this incident. The death of two innocent human beings and not to mention the loss of life of more than 300+ people (govt stats) in the aftermath-thus went unnoticed and ended as just another statistics in the city files.
I appreciate your sentiments towards Karachi, and completely relate to them.

``is just that.... bombastic rhetoric. You cannot unilaterally declare a mohajir home a RAW hideout (# 37) and then dream about ``a polity that considers all of its members equally dignified``. Show us your true face man. Either you can go around declaring mohajirs as RAW agents or you can go around demanding their rights for food, health, education, dignity etc. Can`t have it both ways, sorry.``
My reply:
Please read # 37 again. I dont think that any fair-minded person can sense even an inuendo suggesting that the ``RAW hideout`` that I wrote about was actually a ``MQM hideout``. It is all in your head and this story was written with a purpose to explore those demons which are in our heads. I wanted to request you to have decency not to attribute things that I didnt say and cannot be inferred but then I would say that anything goes that would help start a dialogue. So I dont mind.

Please add more to this subject, with specifics, if possible. To some extent I do agree with you.

My reply:
Any police, who invades any house in Pakistan, illegally, deserves to be shot in the face. But I must say that your line of argument won`t help anyone. Please have mercy on 10s of thousands who have lost their lives to this fiery rhetoric, lost their loved ones, and lost their livelyhood. If you do care about Mohajirs, as it seems, plz consider them human first, and not the gun fodder. Ali1 we cannnot and should not let it keep happening to us as human beings and as citizens of Pakistan. Someone has to take the first steps-and why not us.

At this point I have to mention this post I saw earlier (careof Farangikush) - requesting people to leave the female species out of the discussion - at that momnet I got all hot&bothered thinking it was too patronising but can now appreciate the sentiment!!

Murder of a doctor
Seth Mahomed Ali Habib endowed the cemetery of Hussaini Bagh number two in the late fifties, to the Khoja Shia Isna`asheri community. Prominent in Hussaini Bagh are about 15 graves of the Shaheeds that have been given their importance, in the sense that their edifices are somewhat larger than the standard sized graves. Bigger tombstones have been made to identify them. Graves of the Shaheeds in Hussaini Bagh has three prominent doctors, who served humanity, without distinction of cast or creed. The tombstones of the murdered doctors are that of Dr Mahomed Hussain Dhevjani, Dr Abul Qasim Jiva and the celebrated physician Dr Sibtain Dossa. And to this list of revered tombstones will be added the fourth of Dr Mahomed Raza Pirani.
He was murdered in a cold blooded manner when he was leaving his clinic in the midst of Soldier Bazaar, inundated with traffic, Rangers, police, on the afternoon of June 26. And yet the two assassins got away on their motorcycles after shooting Dr Pirani in the brain and neck that tore the esophagus.
Another Dr Ali Wajid, son of late Dr Wajid Hassan, had the sense to leave Pakistan and migrate to Canada. So also has Saminah, widow of Dr Sibtain Dossa and her son, Sadek who have sought political asylum in England, forced out against her wishes from the land of the pure, whose founder was the Mahomed Ali Jinnah, a true son of Khoja Isna`asheri community.
Participating in the funeral of Dr Mahomed Raza Pirani and observing his son, shaking the blood-stained shroud for the requiem or Talqim, in the cold grave, of the star-filled night of June 26, I was reminded of Sheikh Saadi`s Faryad, over the massacre in Baghdad in 1257. ``Oh Muhammad,`` wrote the sage, ``raise your head and see the tribulations of the people now``.
