tahmed321 #146, ``I have come to the conclusion
that these morons (Indian and Pakistani) have nothing else to talk about, so they get into this verbal exchange of insults with one another.``
Hey, it`s cathartic sometimes, after a long day at work, there`s nothing better than to exchange insults and release some pent up frustration.
Just think if we held it all in, there`d be a bigger explosion at the end. So we let out a few sparks here and there.

Thank you for clarifying the points I have raised. Ultimately the writer is king and the reader interprets the royalty’s robes (or the emperor with no clothes!) as he/she deems fit or as per one’s own emotional and intellectual backlog.

Well, you have talked about “self-policing”, so I suppose now I can release you :) Besides, on this Board itself someone has been saying that you are more honourable than I am because they know where you stand; it sounds like something you had told me on one of my Boards when you lectured me about my “Hindu-bashing”! This itself should show MY consistency, that both Hindus and Muslims think alike :) Anyway, I am happy for you, as always…
dost-mittar (#102):
[“Well Farzana, what can you expect from a political junkie in a junkyard?:-)”]
I know what you mean, but I suppose I am going through that phase where I am not amused or irritated by the unsolicited, unprovoked references to “people like Farzana…”. I am a political junkie too, but… I am sure sane voices like yours can be heard above the din.
Thank you for adhering to my request for shair-o-shairi, but yahan to kuchch iraade nek nahin…Anyway, I found this one…ghaur farmaaiye…

So let`s consult a psychiatrist, I believe there are a few of them amongst Chowk interactors.
I do think NewEntrant is a regular Chowkie using a differnet nick. Could it be sadna?
Sadna, I`m just kidding, before you decide to throw a fit again ;)

Bhai Kia Khiali Batein Hain.
Where the elctions are held on gun point. Which citizen are you talking about.
Karachi is hostage already, it is a police state where there is ban on people forming group until it directly benefits PM and his regime.
Police and rangers are patrolling the city, and harrasing senior citizens and talking people in jail and terrorizing them to vote.
You are probably talking about some democratic country or you are no more in touch with news except the official newspaper.

NewEntrant #123,
...i happen to consider myself a liberal, and not the Farzana kind...and i have always wanted to take up issues with people like you..
..its nobody`s case that Islam has been the most tolerant religion in history, or even now...but does it justify what you guys are doing in india- creating an intolerant Hinduism with the apparent justification that such a streak exists in Islam?..creating non-existent issues and whipping up passions...
..i mean, for God`s sake, what was/is the whole bull about the Ram mandir..and its still not over..do you realize that, in the final analysis, its india which loses...if i were a paksitani i`d be very happy at the way the whole damn `controversy` is going..
..is your solutiuon to (historical) islamic intolerance more intolerance...what point do you prove by this..the RSS inspired hindu revivalism of today has ``hindu tolerance`` as its fundamentalism- i am sick and tired of saffron columnists singing the same tune...and this fundamentalism is no different from the chauvinisms of other religions which have their bases in `final prophets` or `the(only)way, the truth` etc...
..and the tolerant streak in hinduism is not a legacy the RSS can lay claim to..it belongs to people like Gandhi (and we know how the RSS looked at Gandhi- inspite of whatever they may say now)..and i think its time people realized that the RSS is a devious and manipulative organization (inspite of all that PR that goes around reg. their social sevice etc.)...
...i agree some of the complaints raised are genuine...its a fact that Islam, Christianity and Judaism are exclusivist religions- i.e. only their way is right, no other point of view is accommodated-unlike hinduism...but shouldnt that be a right to believe too, in a tolerant society...i am a christian, and know that-inspite of all those nice lines about love etc- christianity at its core says that there is no other way to `salvation`....so does that mean i am necessarily an intolerant individual?....am i more a community/religion and less an individual..
..but i know its a two-way street...all the righteous indignation we see on this board to your just one post was absent when urstruly was indulging in his constant sickening hindu-baiting...we`ve even had ppl like Farzana come up with justifications for him- apparently genuises can hold extreme views...
..of all the liberals i`ve seen write in india, most are sensitive and balanced people and unfortunately tags like `pseudo-liberal` and `pseudo-secular` have done a great deal to undermine their credibility...i however agree with you on Farzana- its been disappointing to realize that she passes off as a liberal ...she has a very obvious agenda which cannot be hidden with all her clever language..she is so bogged down by her own victim complex that she is utterly insensitive to an alternate point of view...i have read articles/posts by her saying that jinnah was not really pursuing a communal agenda whereas gandhi/nehru were not secular enough..that pakistan represents a right to break off, and kashmiri `jehadis` are justified because they atleast follow a purpose...she tries to undermine suffering when its hindu as in case of kashmiri pundits by attributing political motives to it or by giving anecdotal evidence...it just tells you that the lowest form of bigotry can come couched in sophistication/elitism and good english...

Dear Urstruly, # 125
I was by no means looking for areas to criticize in. just that having studied Forensic medicine a few salient features came to mind, just as a flashback of that horrid subject. As far as scratch marks go, they can be found on the vicim ,as well as the asailiaint[ indicates struggle].I think every woman does does attempt to save her honour , in such situations, no mater how out numbered she may be , unless tied and unable to move .It is just human instinct.
The reason I mentioned this, was despite your excellent homework, on the Forensic scene , since you are a writer, maybe these few bits might add to your next production. Anyways just a trivial thing , no issue to be discussed further.
And yes Inspector Sami should have had the finger nails inspected !
p.s. [ however i do enjoy your pieces on a lighter vein more , like Farzana said earlier , and i quote her `` how i miss those wrists `` ] :)
love,
sa:)

Latif Chappu #131 ``You and Urstruly are both from of the same category. You respond to venom from individuals with retorts that vilify their whole tribe. The only thing that renders your action `right` in your eyes is a mistaken belief that your tribe is superior. WRONG!!``
Greetings on this post. What you say is wise, but is probably not going to have any effect: like ``bhainse kai samnay been bajana`` (playing music to the water buffalo``. I have come to the conclusion that these morons (Indian and Pakistani) have nothing else to talk about, so they get into this verbal exchange of insults with one another.

RE: Urstruly
[``He finally proved that when he laid down his life in the line of duty in 95/96 when his men stormed a RAW hideout in New Karachi.``]
Everyone who resists state`s terrorism is a RAW agent in Pakistan. Just like every muslim who will not rollover and play dead is an ISI agent in India. Further, all Sindhi/Mohajir homes are potential RAW hideouts and all Sindhis and Mohajirs are potential RAW agents.
[``This police officer was a thorough gentleman and an honest police officer.``]
An ``honest police officer``, specially in Karachi police, and specially if the officer is a Punjabi, is an oxymoron. It is difficult to think of a Punjabi policeman in Karachi who is not on a real estate buying spree in Lahore/Gujrat/Sargodha etc. and whose brothers and ``daad-poutras`` are not running ``flying coaches`` on Lahore-Rawalpindi route.
Urstruly, would you mind naming your ``thorough gentleman`` ``honest`` hero? Not all your readers are American born you know, some of us may tell you a few incidences of honesty and gentlemanly behaviour of every policeman hero that you might have.

Dear Masd
Thank you very much for your promising and pragmatic post. I think people, especially Karachiites must understand that together we have killed the swan that used to lay golden eggs. And I am talking about the public sector and bureaucracy. Times are changing. And this transition is being felt with pain because our governments (almost all of them are unrepresentative in the true sense of democracy) failed to foresee the eminent future. The private sector is a hope and it can make a killing (in business) given the pathetic performance of our public sector.
In order to turn this idea into reality people must be organized to form cooperative local governments where most of the revenue is generated from within. Locally formed NGOs, that should be established on the revenue from the local resources and funded by federal or provincial government may play a great role in this. The present NGOs who get their funding from UNO are a curse for Pakistan who are injecting an opiate of reliance in the people. Everything is possible if people want it. The ``awareness`` is the key. A sigle person who can sell this idea to a fellow Pakistani can start a chain reaction. And by cooperative I am not promoting communes. I am talking about more local government. Like in US and in west where even the littlest town has its own schooling system, mostly funded by local resources and supplemented by federal or state aid.
The people of Karachi not only have guts but also the intellect and attitude to win this unchartered territory. It is a win-win situation.

There was once a wise OWL (and u`re a human being I think!), the more he listened the more he kept quiet and the more he kept quiet, the more he listened...
So my dear friend, refrain from being yourself in public as you are incapable of possessing a rationale thinking and tolerance!
and don`t forget that ``Verbal Diarrhoea leads to Mental constupation``...

Ah, vile language!!
Never thought I had any left in me...but I am struggling like anybody else...
And the animal in me wakes up...sometimes...given the `right` conditions...
Apologies to everyone if I ever sounded `high-minded.`
I am just as weak...only praying for another chance...and whipping myself in the process.
