..i wish i can tell you something similar, that there is space for a settlement of the kashmir `issue` outside of India`s constitution but that would be untrue...and i do not just mean sentiments of the kind of people you may have seen celebrating after Pokhran.....there is this understated resolve across India`s political spectrum to not let go kashmir, left and right through centre....and that includes me...the reasons are various, and whether Jaswant Singh believes it or not, I sure believe that ``kashmir is at the core of Indian nationhood``...and i believe so for the same reason that pakistan wants it, that it is a muslim majority state
...i think for the most part the Indian state has kept its part of the bargain in the secularism stakes..i can vouch for that as a minority..and that wasnt easy...the immediate memories of partition bloodshed, the bitterness and the creation of an Islamic Pakistan- it was very tempting to go in for India as a Hindu State in theory and practice
that is why many of us find it terribly unfair that the only muslim-majority state of india would want to secede from India..especially a state that has enjoyed a privileged position in the scheme of things...it is unfortunate that a section of public opinion in kashmir today supports this- but this, unlike what many in Pakistan believe, has not always been the case...and we believe this too -like so many other things- will pass...
..what i am trying to say here is that if normalization of Indo-Pak relations was predicated on Kashmir`s secession from India (which is what a ``solution`` means from a pakistani POV), then that is something which will never happen in the forseeable future and we would have to live with this inertia of almost-war for a long time to come....but then your post is encourging..
btw, i saw a mention of your name here for a Booker!...just curious, do you guys get to read indo-anglian writing out there..or would that also be a distraction from the core issue :)

[RDesikan,& Iqbal Qasim on the thread ABOVE .The same asrticle by same guy Tunku Varadarajan, may be basterd son of Tinku Abdu Rehman ,& there are many TAMIL in Malaysia ,to not make it stretch of my imagination.]
The Honorable Tunku Abdul Rahman was not a rapist in the style of your ancestors. So the least you can do is not malign either Mr. Varadarajan or the former Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The author says [During the 17th Century Shah Jahan, the Muslim Emperor of India, ordered the building of a monument to parallel the beauty of the woman he loved (and lost)]
Get your history correct. When one says `loved and lost`, the conventional meaning is that somehow or other the lovers never got together. Not so with our Padishah Shah Jahan. Mumtaz died in childbirth -- her 17th confinement, to be precise. I am sure she wouldn`t have minded having a few days off or having a harem staffed with 300-odd females.
We all need to find out what it is that Shah Jahan was eating. We could put Viagra out of business.

I did read the article thats why I posted it. My request to you to explain was a polite response to your one line post.
My original post was not directed to you. Please do me the honor of ignoring my posts in future instead of taking the trouble to direct cryptic remarks at me and then asking me to figure them out for myself.

(``Whats your point?``)
figure it out for yourself..it will help to read over the article you posted and also paying attention to the hostility and downright condescending tone the writer employs..i`m not explaining the `point` to you and getting into a slanging match..have to go count the bristles on my toothbrush
bye bye

Here`s a hilarious take on Kashmir summit, courtesy The Friday Times:
Ittefaq Nama
Open latter to Vajpayee Saab: “Ja ray ja bewafa, naheen tujh ko pata, yeh sharafat hai kya, yeh mohabbat hai kya. Coming on bus. Hmmph! Doing juphhee-puppee. Hmmph! Looking so bhola. Hmmph! Now suddenly enema No 1 has become hero. I was responsible for Kargil, hain ji?! My angels were not even having news of where Kargil is. When Fauji fust mentioned to me about Kargil, I said ‘which car?’ and I only gave permission when Shbaz Saab killed eye at me and said Bhaijan, break fast of harisa will be had in Srinagar, Inshallah. Oye, leave it, Vajpayee Saab, you are a turn goat. Abbaji was right. He sad ‘Lalas are again Lalas. Lalay phhir bhi Lalay hain’. As far Fauji, he is snake of sleeve. To think that he will now be going to Dili and Agra and touring Taj Mahal with his begum singing songs from Mughal-e-Azam and taking photoos. Hai, hai. My heart has been burnt to a Cinderella. As late Madam Nurjehan wrote in her song ‘Raqeeb say’: Aa kay vabasta hain us husn ki yaadein tujh say, jiss nay iss dil ko pareekhana bana rakha thhaa.
“Your bhabi has been v angry since she hud of Fauji and Begum Fauji going on romantic stroll of Taj and doing shopping in Janpath, Ritu’s Boutique, Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri and Mahesh Jeweller. Jinn has again climbed on your bhabi’s Gucci bag and it is all the time coming towards my face, specially when I am least expecting. Yesterday, your bhabi was sitting sarhoing in front of tally viyion screen in which Fauji and you were being shown. Anger climbed on me and I offed tally viyion. I said to your bhabi: ‘Do you think my heart is not wanting gol gappas and bhatooras of Bengali Markeet? Do you think water is not coming in my mouth for kaju ki barfi made by Haramdas Shurlidhar? No, begum, I told her, I am just more sabir than you and the fruit of patients is sweet. Now, Vajpayee Saab, if you are having iota of humdardi for me, please sand the following by express post to this hell-hole called Saudia — oops, delete, delete:
“1. Solitaire from Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (14 karats only, quality flawlass, superwhite).
2. 55 raw silak laddies shalwar kameez suits from Ritu’s Boutique (size Extra Large).
3. One dozen banned shahtoosh shawls (6 yards each).
4. Big packet of kaju ki barfi from Haramdas (10 ton container).
5. DVD prints of Avara and Mughal-e-Azam.
“Last request: please go and put green satin sheet on Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia from my side only so that I can gat ought of here and sit on throne again”.
