That the police and the officialdom had gone thoroughly Muslim League was demonstrated by three successive events: The Provincial Assembly elections in the Punjab early in 1946; the Muslim League agitation against the Khizar Ministry in January-February, 1947 and the Punjab Riots which began early in March, 1947 and continued in Pakistan as late as January of 1948, till which month incidents of glaring brutality on a colossal magnitude against the Hindu and Sikh remnants of the population continued to be reported.

Out of so many Indians, there will always be some writing anything. There may be an Indian tomorrow writing Jinnah was an old pink woman. Will you take that as Gods word? Think of what most people say, not a few here and there.

I smell a dirty rat in Sadna`s request but I will proceed in good faith :

1) Muhammad Ali Jinnah : Quit 17th December 1947 saying that as the Governor General he could not continue to be the head of a communal organization. His Government had J N Mandal as Law Minister and had a very secular outlook.

2) Liaqat Ali Khan : Remained secular though Objectives resolution marred the secularism a little. Read Liaqat Nehru Pact for more details on Pakistan`s avowed declaration of secularism.

3) Chaudh. Khaliquzamman: President after Jinnah

Ex Congress party Worker, Joined AIML and supported the creation of Pakistan. Declared that Jinnah buried the tnt on 11th August.

4) II Chundrigar: Avowedly Secular. In Cabinets

5) Suhrawardy: Bengal Muslim League Split from the Muslim League to create Jinnah Awami Muslim League which finally transformed into Awami League.

Can we have an objective description of the post-Independence history of the Muslim League in Pakistan, its leaders and its legislative record wrt secularsim?

It is a known fact that Badshah Khan was not secular... indeed, had he lived today he would have been in the frontline of the Taliban Movement in the name of Pakhtun Nationalism. ANP is a reactionary party which uses Pathan Nationalism, and fanatical Islam interchangeably.

You cant use the mistakes party members today to judge Badshah Khan. Pakistanis have been crying that despite their religious mess of their country Jinnah was secular! They cant play it both sides.

Jiye Sindh Movement:

Now that Sigalph has exposed the reality of ANP and its so called `secular` leadership which Indians consider as good as their own (though it might actually be better), let us talk of Jiye Sindh Movement.

Jiye Sindh believe it or not was led by a Power hungry megalomaniac who was trying to get some political mileage out of sindhi nationalism. Thankfully it never caught any public attention, as Sindh consistenty voted for PPP, a Pakistani Nationalist Party!

Right on, but to people like Gowardhan who so blinded by their hatred of Pakistan, Talibanophile, Pakhtun Nationalist, Wali Khan will remain a secularist.

The truth remains: Fanatics and Fundoos amongst Muslims were in bed with the Congress Party. It was the secularists who made Pakistan, including Jinnah, Suhrawardy, etc.

You are right that Pakistan`s record is not impeccable, but when people like Gowardhan come in attacking us for being fanatical, I can tell you that is a lie!

I have never said that Pakistan is secular. I wish it were, for Jinnah`s ideal was a secular Pakistan. But let me tell you this, Sigalph, I do not wish to be a secularist to earn brownie points with Indian Bigots, who will lie and lie and lie again to prove Pakistan wrong!

Secular Democracy or Not, the minorities in Pakistan in practical terms are not any worse off than India, and that is a claim that cannot be contested. Do both Pakistan and India need to treat its minorities better? Yes... Can India claim to be the beacon of light? NO!

Dada, Oriya is one of the official languages of India. At the last count there were more than 2 Crore Oriya speakers. Pakistan has only one official language, but Seraiki speakers exceed 3.5 crores.

What you say is right. However, their behaviour over the past few decades cannot be extrapolated to Badshah Khan. Is it fair to similarly extrapolate the buffoonery of Congress (in India) or Muslim Leage (in Pakistan) over the recent past to their leaders before independence?
