[Carboload #248, ``When are you going back? You sound like a true leader. Why wait if you are waiting. What are you waiting for? Safer conditions, things to get better, more suitable for your leadership style? Go now. ``
I`m still a poor student. If you have money to buy me a ticket, I will go. I`m waiting to graduate and make some money of my own and then go (not forever, because i believe i can make more money here and channel it to do some good in Pakistan).
]
Practise (first) what you preach. Why are you making excuses? When there is a will, there is a
way. I think your hypocrisy is far worse a crime than a doctor leaving Pakistan.
[``Pakistan secretly funded my education. Pakistan secretly funded the education of so many expats., it`s mind boggling.``
WHATTTTT are you talking about?]
LOL. Never mind.
[``What does affluence got to do with Pakistan falling deeper and deeper into debt and poverty?``
It has a lot to do with Pakistan`s current state.
If all of these filthy rich expatriates gave up one Mercedes each and made a school or hospital in a rural region of Pakistan, we could get somewhere. Have you ever thought of that? Money rules the world, my friend, and it can make a lot of difference to a poor country.

A feudal landownder would let an expat. build a school when he doesn`t let the
local govt. erect one! Get real, for a change.
[`` Where are the WE for the daily victims of the car jacking, murders and rapes?!``
And where are WE when we leave and never look back? Is that any better? Turning a blind eye towards our own people?
]
Good point, stop making excuses about your poverty and go back!
[``No demand for health care professionals anywhere?! HORROR!!!!!!!``
Where the hell did I say there`s no need for health care professionals, I merely pointed out that the US has enough graduates of it`s own medical schools, taht it`s getting more and more difficult for FMG`s go get jobs.
Now relax and chill out.

Uhuh. I am not the one who is holding grudges against expat. doctors. As I wrote earlier,
take your own advice first, practise what you
preach.
Over and out.

God forbid (rather Allah Forbid) I comment on the relative muslimness of various muslims. Say are there any rankings of muslims (by the AIM maybe - Association of Islamic Mullahs?) I guess the Saudis must be the top seeds or are the Taliban rapidly climbing up in the rankings? Please do tell

NOT FROM DAWN
80-yr-old makes officialdom climb down, literally
I can’t climb stairs so send my refund home, she wrote to MC; it responded by shifting office
N GANESH
THANE, AUGUST 9: A CITIZEN’s initiative is known to help change things for the better in small ways. Like cleaning up waste-laden streets, or fixing broken street lamps, or even nailing a corrupt official. But 80-year-old Tarabai Shaligram has a unique achievement to her credit: A simply-worded letter from her has been instrumental in prompting the Thane Municipal Corporation to shift its entire property and water tax office from the fourth floor to the ground floor.
Tarabai, a retired teached with a Marathi translation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice to her credit, pays her civic taxes well ahead of the last due date. This year was no exception, the only difference being that, after paying her tax, she learnt that the corporation owed her a refund.
“The tax office is located on the fourth floor and for a person of my age to climb a staircase without railings is real hardship. Paying the tax, in fact, was not as taxing as climbing the stairs. I was not prepared to make a second trip to the tax office to claim my rebate,” she said.

Gowardhan 252,
THE FLAG ACT
I do agree the pak authorities have a problem, under what law the child has to be booked. This is the same problem they faced when the women are getting killed, the killers said, it is to protect the honour, the police asked the courts, the high court of lahore, and the court said, it is fine, every partriotic pakistani has to uphold the honour. Honour ``non-killing`` is considered a crime.
One thing we can be sure, this crime is very different from the killing. ``Blasphemy laws appear to be the appropriate one, pakistan is islam, hence islam is pakistan. India is hindu, hence indian flag is hindu flag. So the boy has hoisted the hindu flag, which implies he has converted to hinduism. So lynch the boy.`` I dont want this to be censored, so please note that the above quote is not the ruling of the lahore high court. I repeat, if the above quote has any semblance to the ruling of the lahore high court in the honour killing case, it is only coincidental.

Looks like exposing desi doctors in the US has touched some raw nerves. To be expected I suppose, considering everyone`s chacha, chachu cousin Raju, or uncle Ali is a doctor in the US.
For those who still insist on misinterpretation or just have their heads deep in the hot sand of Jones beach, let me reiterate:
1) There are exceptions to everything. Pointing out how great your neighborhood desi doctor is doesn`t change anything. Neither does telling us how great your third cousin from falana dhimaka med school in India/Pakistan is doing in the US.
2) This isn`t about who went to Harvard Med and who went to Ohio State...it is about who scammed their way when they couldn`t get into the legit US schools. Or in India and Pak who paid a donation to get into med school.
Calling the messenger arrogant won`t change the message.

In your Face,
{{So, which one of the above three explainations was applicable to YOU when you called Vajpayee a homo in couple of your posts earlier? }}
Ha ha, good point! You got me there. Do I have a good excuse to wriggle out of that one?--NO. I do have a ``bad`` excuse--I was trying to be humorous, but I guess it bombed with you. Heck it even bombed with Farzana--& I`m accused of ``kissing up`` to her!
My vulgarity never sits well with Tahmed & scout--2 people I`m accused of ``kissing up to``. I`m appreciative that the two of them get along well with me, despite the fact they dont approve of my vulgarity or agree with some of my views that are very critical of Pakistan.
They`ve appealed to me on many ocassions that my vulgarity doesnt sit well with them. They`ve realised that its an issue that we cant reconcile--so we`ve moved on. Ultimately, is`nt that how mature, non-bigotted people are? They accept people for who they are--``warts an` all``.

More likely, 3.7%. I mean, when there was unrestricted immigrations by FMGs, the number of foreign doctors stood at around 20% of all doctors in the US, with Filipinos and Filipinas in the lead among the FMGs.
....i read the article in passing, so you may be right....but almost 4% out of 20% ain`t THAT bad...let me see if i can lay my hands on that article or if someone on this board can tell us if they know the correct figures
