scout:
Was hoping for a some playful tee-a-tete.. Kinda prompting to see if you still had the stuff you used to use on RSaxena in your repertoire.
Sorry if I overstepped.
(btw, pretty perspicacious of you to pick up on that remark.... behenji) :)

To all those teasing Saxena and scout
Chill out guys. When they agree you have probs, when they disagree you have probs. Dont you have your own boyfriends/girlfriends or wives. Or all of you are one of those desi coders who lock themselves up in a tiny room writing code the whole day. Come out of your cell, life is beautiful!

No my dear, I read somewhere this figure for desi doctors. A large percentage of them are Indians actually. Both are equally bad and rude IMO

so what is wrong with that? I find the community to be well organized, progressive, hard working, philanthropic (they contributed generously after the gujrat earthquake).

Your mind is dirty if you took what I said in any other way. I suggest you rents lots of Disney movies and stay away from the evil media for six months.

[i was reading somewhere recently that 37% of american physicians are pakistani, so some of them must be doing something right......]
More likely, 3.7%. I mean, when there was unrestricted immigrations by FMGs, the number of foreign doctors stood at around 20% of all doctors in the US, with Filipinos and Filipinas in the lead among the FMGs.

How nice, characterizing someone as a serial killer!
Remote diagnosis once again, and that too for free!

On IITs and IIMs, the oldest is around 40 - 45 years old, and the average age would be around 25 years or so. Bit young to produce presidents in a country where political leaders are around 70 at the time of the ultimate gaddi - but that said several Chief Ministers are IIT graduates.
American Univs and Profs have no issue with calling you if they like your work/record. Its not a matter of ego, merely making sure you get hold of someone interesting. Happens pretty often, and they usually call the deeepratment or mail to fix a place and time - a lot of the Profs are aware IIT hostels don`t run to phones in the room.

.......... i guess i gave you too much credit.....i thought you had picked the moniker ``scout`` because you stood for liberty, justice and all that is good and poofy - like scout in ``to kill a mocking bird`` .......... i guess it is not required reading to get into albany ............ how about renting the movie, or is greorgy peck toooo old for you ....... and what is this whining about older men on the other board - it is quite unislamic, you know.......

[Even though IITs and IIMs are indeed great institutes, they`re pretty one-dimensional and not not in the MIT/Harvard league - yet. MIT, for example, provided navigational software for the moon shot while Harvard has produced Presidents. What have the IITs and IIMs done in comparision?]
Code coolies by the thousands.

RSaxena #197 I would be quite happy to agree to disagree on some points and agree to agree on others and move on. However, I think you bring up an important point that goes beyond Shankar or any one man. This is on the nature of Shankar`s ``Big Crime`` is:
You say that his criticism of India has nothing to do with it, and that you too criticize India. OK, accepted and I wont start splitting hairs on this issue. But then you repeat something that you said when we made Shankar the subject of our discussion the first time (on another board): you imply that Shankar is motivated by ``a strategy to win acceptance from anyone.`` You had said as much in our previous interaction, where you had also made it clear that the ``anyone`` were Pakistanis. I had said there was no logical reason (as I mentioned before) why Shankar would need acceptance from anyone, least of all us Pakistanis (jay will be happy to explain this to you). You said something about psychological reasons - I think you are stretching it a bit. But enough of this digression.
Coming back to the point of this post:
Even assuming the most selfish of motives, then, THIS indeed is Shankar`s big idea - friendship between India and Pakistan. Or, if you like, ``seeking to gain acceptance`` from the other side (how else can one be a friend unless one respects the other side enough to seek acceptance?).
So: Both you and I in fact agree on what Shankar`s big idea is, which is exactly as you state in this post and also indicated earlier. I happen to respect him for that (I dont care what kind of language he uses to express them). You choose to ``point it out`` (as you say, or ``ridicule`` him for that, as I think) for that.
At the end of your post you indicate a second reason (something to do with his language - that issue is not my concern and I have nothing to say one way or another).
On your other points, we can agree to disagree or agree to agree. They are not as important the Big Idea. That is, If Harimau called Shankar names and you just ``inquired if it was true`` and if you think there is a difference, then I think you are splitting hairs. You may not think so. Fine.
Harimau: Thanks for responding. I have nothing more to add for you beyond what I have said above.
Akash: Thanks too for responding. One point: I am glad you have this nice image of yourself as a playful twenty-something who has fun on chowk exchanging insults with twenty-something Pakis and hurling abuse at others. Personally, I think you are a moron: Most people do not ridicule others for fun. Even the class morons stop this fun after they have completed middle school). (And your poorer cousins in India and Pakistan who are paying the price for ylh`s jet planes and for your fun are grown up men and women at the age of six years, but let me not get into that).
And finally, to Shankar: You dont need me to
defend you, as anyone familiar with your posts can tell. However, the issue of the ``Big Idea`` is important enough I think that one should spend time defending it.
