Zafar!

I just saw this...Yes! I am told I may be the only person who will publicly confess to this crime :)

We must catch up on Doon-Mussoorie gossip sometime.

And thank you for that warm welcome.

anNy welcome back.....has been ages since we tasted the khyali pulao from Burns Road to Tariq Road and Sabri`s Nihaari and Kareemu`s kababs. Looking forward to your chirpy reportage

Urstruly,

I was under the impression that Rosy was a pichathar sala Buzurgh lady , who went for a daily walk , and you met her in the elevator every morning .Sometimes you would help her getting her grocery bags to her apt. being a dutiful young neighbour. Sometimes you would take her out for her errands, like Drs. trip, etc. as Rosy poor thing cannot drive anymore .

I thought she would be blessed being trapped in the elevator during load shedding, and you would just gently console her by showing her your wrists .She would smile back, and it would give her the courage to stay put till the rescue guys came and got both of you out .

Now whatever gave you the impression that i was corupting your innocent mind ? [LOL] !!

love,

sa:)

urstruly,

well, its like what you guys are very fond of saying - one man`s terrorist is another man`s freedom-fighter...

with that in mind, you will get the answer to your q.

For a humble, inconspicuous, and an ordinary people like myself it is like a complement. Was that a complemet? :)

Thank you.

Dear author, see what you started :).

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789-_

I think the above line is beautiful because it acknowledges every single chowkwallah(contributer, interactor, silent reader) and his/her/their uniqueness.

(The omission of any possibly relevant `special` characters apart from the above two is not intentional).

THE GOOD OLD DAYS,

Yes there indeed was a good old day, the days of the chowk forum, when one started a thread of discussion. The days when hamid confused a lot about his posts about the american indians and how sleeman is adored in pakistan. The inspirational and evocative posts of Bhaajan is really missed, especially the one he wrote when bagdad was bombed. I miss the posts of Tehsin, a rare pakistani. Those were the days of no pass word, one could assuma any name and had several multiple posters.

Gangadin was another colourful charector. Rarely see ranaransher and vidyadhera, still around some time.

Do you realize that you use gender putdowns yourself, such as addressing suxena raveena? What`s up with that? Or are you being endearing?

Pankaj and SameerJB,

Thanks for the definition. :)

concerned, ``thanks sameer for your explanation to scout (does she realize her part in the story?)``

Hmmmm... I read it again and couldn`t find it...but I`m sure it`s not nice (comments from men to me usually aren`t, esp. on chowk)

On the occasion of Independence day my best wishes to everyone, Indian or Pakistani. Here are some of my all time favourite lines by Rabindranath Tagore.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high

Where knowledge is free

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments

By narrow domestic walls

Where words come out from the depth of truth

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit

Where the mind is led forward by thee

Into ever-widening thought and action

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake

For your excellent description of Paan ingredients, you are invited to Prince Paan at M Block Market, Greater Kailash 1, New Delhi. Your choice of Saada or Meetha. and many hours of Totey taadna as free benefit...;)

``what does Katha mean?

As far as I know it`s the reddish/brown stuff people put in paan.

``

What you are talking is Kat-Tha. Katha means tale or story.

hello all,

wow, seems like chowk is in a mood to publish new articles at a manic pace.

on a lazy afternoon, i typed in a few random thoughts...and i was only on my third cup of fine darjeeling when the `submit` button got clicked. perhaps should have waited till the fourth cup to put this `katha` in a more refined manner.

as a result, many worthy ones were presented in a clumsy manner (sorry, sadna) and many were left out (sorry pankaj, hobbyty,...). and veeresh, nothing makes sense to me as well at times. thanks sameer for your explanation to scout (does she realize her part in the story?) and everything else. sac, you are quite right. and temporal...well, no thanks for diminishing the literary value of my piece by putting one of your own right here... ;O)

sac: As promised in my post below, I looked up the board which is: ``A Sensory Report of the Agra Summit From Bombay (Part I and II)`` and AAmir`s Big Math Issue is #79.

sac #9 I think Gowardhan and AAmir are fine posters and you are mistaken in singling them out. Maybe Gowardhan slips once in a while, but recovers admirably. And maybe AAmir could cut and paste more carefully (and spare us the huge amount of blank spaces and irrelevant stuff), but this man can do math that would give Einstein a headache (see his posts on the board titled...I will look it up and post it in a sec). And now I shall get back to what I should be doing (which is not attending to patients, incidentally, JBSameer).

And yes, this article was great, but way too short to include all the fine posters like Pankaj and Dost Mittar and Temporal in it. Indeed, it is obvious the writer started from the bottom of the barrel as I see my worthless name there too. The cream got left out!! I protest!

And may God bring our delightful anNy and our good buddy Eklavya back on chowk soon in good health.

Pankaj: I assure you that you, sac, Fuzair, Arun Gupta, FerozK, Gymnosophist, temporal, sadna, Harpreet, DullaBhatti, dost-mittar and many more are worth reading. You guys are the reason for many of us still hanging on here. I will more than happy to offer my last spot to any of you very talented individuals.

I think chowk must get rid of 1) cartoon, 2) Murad Beg`s Aryan Invasion stuff.

Replace it with two permanent threads for 1) Sub-continent 1940-1950, 2) Islam x Hinduism = Annhilation like a collision between an electron and a positron.

Both sites must be in chat format and immediate updating with an automatic rejection to less than three sentences replies.

Scout: Katha is story/ tale whereas Kattha is what goes with Beatle nuts, calcium hydroxide (choona), qawam (concentrated tobacco extract), peeli patti (flavored tobacco) and sometimes with a laxative (due to high fibre contents) called gulqand.

Chowk sadly is dying a slow and painful death at the hands of characters like Gowardhan, AAmir and company. The chowk staff needs to post articles other than the usual India/Pakistan,Islam/Hinduism bullshit. If Chowk has decided to make a niche for itself by allowing single-dimensional psychopaths on both sides of the divide to vent their anger, then come next August 14th there won`t be many sane voices left here.

later

-sac

INVITATION

Come (with me)
let us turn this night to day, gloom to bloom
tyranny of the dark to the glow of hope
terror to tranquillity, ignorance to knowledge
sibylline clouds, parched earth, slow death
to oasis of prosperity and pacifism.

Come, take this hand
move, (move your feet)
the little lamp
keeper of yesterday’s sun’s trust
will shortly return it to the sun.

If we do not move forward
If we do not come nearer
then this passage
of light to dark to light
will strand us
for ever in darkness.

Come (with me).....

DAWAT

Aao kay shub ko seh`r kar daiN
aao kay is tareek shub ko seh`r kar daiN
zoolm ki zoolmut ko such ka chiragh dikhaa daiN

Happy Independence Day(s) to all desis. May the One and Only Lord...........yourself in the heightened state of awareness......have mercy on others. Peace to Pakistanis, Peace to Indians and Peace between India and Pakistan.

Concerned: Thanks for including me at last, in the list. This summer has been just the previous one which was same just the one before, which was......what worried me this summer was actually chowk.com. Everytime I clicked on it, it was same god damn ``Casino ON Net-20 percent off``. I was wondering that how long a fine site like this one will survive on the basis of practically one banner only. I even had a bad dream that chowk did not update for a week in a row. Can you imagine what would have happened to YLH? Rsaxena? tahmed321? Well, tahmed321 would finally start taking interest in treating his patients.

I pray to Lord Buddha for Chowk survival.

Most discussed period of history at chowk must be 1940-1950 that saw rise and fall of ML in Pakistan. It was much quicker than the time between the rise and fall of ML under Nawaz Sharif. Reminds me of western movies in USA when the wild west really lasted for a brief period. Well, Jesus minitry lasted little more than a year, yet Mormons and Jehovah`s Witness have knocked at my door for years now. That is life!!!!
