I don`t read every single post on Chowk. Most of it is totally useless, without meaning, and therefore a complete waste of my time. I`ve better things to do. I visit Chowk every now and then and respond to some of the posts I feel responding to. I don`t know where Ali stands on all this worthless bickering between Hindus and Muslims, and Indians and Pakistanis. I only agreed to a sentence of his that I thought was well said.
Now, as far as some virtual Muslim girl interacting with a virtual Hindu man at Chowk in an affectionate manner, that`s her business. You think I give a damn? If Ali or Shah has a problem with that, well, that`s their business. I don`t give a damn about that either.
Whether I`m putting up a facade, is for you to figure out. I cannot answer that question for obvious reasons. However, Gowardhan, my question to you is: why single out Shah and Ali? How about other Hindu inter-actors at Chowk, namely Jay and Rsaxena, who are as hateful? An objective person, Gowardhan, looks at the complete picture before arriving at a conclusion and making a statement.

I don`t think that heckling and trying to interfere with the converations of other people is admirable, do you? Your buddies Ali1 and Aamir has been doing several despicable things on Chowk. As for religion, lets use the example of Christians. Have you heard any of the music, seen any of the art, read any of the books and poetry that question some of the interpretations of Christianity or Jesus Christ? I have. There has been art that serously questions the way Christianity has been interpreted in various times and places. Many people argue Jesus was a revolutionary for the marginalized. Has the religion crumbled? Arent there people who have a variety of Christian beliefs and non beliefs?
Why then is this impossible with Islam, on Chowk?
My growing suspicion is that its because there are many Chowkwallahs who are too afraid of expressing questions, or opinions in fear of harrassment or bullying from the addled brained trolls that keep guard of and try to monopolize and dictate ``Islamic`` discourse. That to me has no justification, and therefore sabotages the purpose of Chowk or any open, dynamic dialogue on Chowk. So lets not fool ourselves of the intent of some of these interactors, okay?

as an insurance agent and later as a veterinary
doctor, Shaharia was arrested by the Pakistan Army after one of his men gave him away.
Convicted under the Pakistan Army Act, he was sentenced to death in 1977. But Morarji Desai
intervened in 1979 and got the black warrant
stayed. Come 1994, and the stay got vacated, but thanks to the Pakistan Human Rights Commission, the death sentence got stayed again.
All this time, Shaharia was lodged in the dingy death cells of various jails. Years of torture and inhuman living conditions took their toll and Shaharia suffered from a paralytic attack. ``We would not even get any medicines in the jail,`` he said.
But the attack proved to be a blessing in disguise, as the then chief of Pakistan Army General Jehangir Karamat commuted his death sentence into life imprisonment. Later in April 2000, he was released, thanks to the Pakistan Human Rights Commission`s efforts.
Shaharia returned home in a wheelchair, to a hero`s welcome. Affection from his family and expert medical care got him back on his feet. But soon the media blitz was over and the government too forgot him.
Shaharia expected the government to compensate him for what he went through for the country so that he could at least spend his remaining days in peace.
``The Intelligence Bureau offered me Rs 200,000 as compensation for the 26 years that I spent in Pakistani prisons. They even refused to accept me as an enrolled agent. When I did not accept their terms, my daughter was threatened,`` Shaharia told rediff.com
Undeterred, Shaharia knocked the doors of the Delhi high court. Finally, the home ministry paid him Rs 650,000 as compensation.
But the residential plot and a petrol pump or a gas agency that Shaharia had asked for were nowhere in sight.
``I filled the forms for a petrol pump at the Indian Oil Corporation and they even came for verification, but nothing happened. The petroleum ministry said they had no special quotas for such cases. In fact, some officials asked me get directions from the Supreme Court,`` he said.
``I`ll wait for a few more weeks. If nothing turns up, I will go to the Supreme Court for justice,`` he said.
``I never expected this to happen to me. Look at Pakistan. Masood Azhar (the militant who was

And my dear Shah, please don`t be so crude -- I am not “ rabidly anti- Pakistan” for -- “the heck of it”.
