quratulain #104,

i can`t call a pervert anything else but a pervert. you`ll realize it sooner or later.

grandpa ali1 #109,

``nah. not until I get my bribe. I can give you a senior`s discount and forgo the cash part. bolo?``

i am a broke student but will a fist through your nasal septum or a paanch ungliyon ka nishaan on your gaal be enough?

``What do you know about men, real or otherwise? haNh? Was taya jaan marhoom a real man?``

do me a favor, take a bottle of red paint and paint a big red L (for loser) on your forehead.

save people some time.

Bay-gham Sahiba

“ZAFARSAAB.how would you like to be called zafoo, hain?”

Er, actually hamari Ammi Huzoor kabhi kabhi…but getting back to the main point, Kookoolain is a little bit over the top, but Qurrrrooooo sounds quite pleasant (no?). I think we could all live with that. But your father (as usual) is right – Qurratulain (sp?) is a lovely name (and also with literary implications, haan) not one you should shrink from.

Zafar

PS I also note that you write bay-ghamati Urdu. Things like “mamooz thanda” come to mind. Aap ke Abba Jaan kya kahenge yeh sun ke?

[``I don’t go for your tabliban inspired midieval division of the world by religion``]

The leaders of your country, the Hindutvadis, do believe in this medieval division. (They also believe that Taj Mahal is a hindu temple and a snakes lingam has therapeutic properties, but thats another story)

They are the ones who really count and are running your country today. You are just a pseudo secular who is trying to save his arse and not end up as a TADA detainee.

BTW, anyone who is not a Hindu arse licker is taliban inspired? sadna school of debating?

[``Refer to Pakistan’s cricket team, where I believe a Dinesh has become a Danish.``]

?? sadna school of debating again? ``I seem to recall..... add an outright lie here``; ``I belive.... add an absolute distortion here``

[``Megawati is actually (beaming at the serendipity of the Universe) Sanskrit. Didjaknow? So is Sukarnoputri. If the head of the largest Muslim Nation in the world has no problem with having a Sanskrit name, what is your issue with Jawahara? Can you articulate it clearly? Have you THOUGHT of it yet?``]

Megawati`s forefathers, like other Indonesian converts, seldom changed their names to ``muslim`` names. Jawahara forefathers, like other Indian converts, always did. I don`t have an issue with either. People in Jawahara`s generation and later who have forgone their tradition and are reverting to Sanskrit names are doing so in the face of the rising tide of Hindu fundamentalism. They are scared, they want to save themselves from the wrath of the awakened hindu giant. They have given in to the threats from the Hindu majority (choose whether you love India or Mecca -- AB Bagpipe). They want to appease the majority, the cowards don`t have the guts to do otherwise. They think they can save their behinds but I think they are mistaken.

Megawati`s name is Megawati because most muslims in that country have a Sanskrit name. Jawahara name is Jawahara because she wants to fit in into the increasingly aggressive Hindu fundamentalist Indian society.

[``You seem to be saying that you only admire open-mindedness from one group if all other groups are equally open-minded. Explain the logic of this…if you can. (I doubt you can.)``]

More sadna school of debating. ``You seem to be saying.... put words in the other persons mouth``.

I am saying that one group i.e. the pseudo secular Indian muslims are capitulating in the face of increasing hostility, intolerance and influence of the other group i.e. the Hindutvadis.

As for the dictionary and the thesarus, I will make a 32 (punjabi wala) of these, dip `em in sarsooN ka tel and send it your way.

[``Not a good prognosis for the famous Pakistani spine.``]

Forget about the spine, there are several other more interesting bones in the body. For example, try the ``boner``.

Or maybe its 30 years too late.

Zafar:

Nope no reference to moolis. Just evidence that power corrupts, and the party that once laid claim to vision and discipline is in the same cess pool as the others.

The only thing I`d like you consider, and mind you this not an apology for BJP hooliganism, is the amount of time these chaps apparently have. I don`t think any of these guys have futures to look forward to. Maybe conscription in the army is an idea? Honestly, I wouldn`t mind people like these to be used as canon fodder. Or an economic environment where there is opportunity for them.

Oh dear – please, do as I say, not as I do…

Reply Ali1 # 63

Ya Ali,

“I was referring to the social rather than the religious aspect of changing names.”

The selection of names is always a social act, with perhaps a religious motivation at times.

But a ``beleaguered Indian pseudo-secular muslim`` like yourself couldn`t help jumping in, probably just to prove your secular-than-thou credentials?

Yeah, of course there’s no other possible motivation, is there…

“There is no such thing as a ``muslim`` name. Arabic names are not muslims names. Haven`t you met an Arab christian named Abdullah? Persians, Afghanis, Turks, Indonesians etc. converted largely without changing their names. Do you think Asfandyar, Izzat Beg, Gulbudin and Megawati are ``muslim`` names?”

Megawati is actually (beaming at the serendipity of the Universe) Sanskrit. Didjaknow? So is Sukarnoputri. If the head of the largest Muslim Nation in the world has no problem with having a Sanskrit name, what is your issue with Jawahara? Can you articulate it clearly? Have you THOUGHT of it yet?

“Coming to your point, I would have more respect for a Usha Ismail or a Jawahara Saidullah if I would have known a Hindu Mohamed Talibani. Until it happens both ways, it would remain a compromise (aka suc_king up to Hindus) on the part of Indian muslims.”

Refer to Pakistan’s cricket team, where I believe a Dinesh has become a Danish. So now it’s OK, huh? You seem to be saying that you only admire open-mindedness from one group if all other groups are equally open-minded. Explain the logic of this…if you can. (I doubt you can.)

“Unless ``any natural expression of big heartedness`` comes from the other side, this ``small hearted`` pakistani would continue to think of your kinds as spineless turds.”

Charming, Ali, charming. You’ve started to achieve Sarwari’s level of three easy steps “debate”:

(1) Make a really stupid statement.

(2) Get challenged on it.

(3) Respond with vulgarity or abuse, hoping that in the ensuing noise and dust your total inability to prove your point is not noticed. (A refinement of step no. 3 is to try and push as many buttons as you can with the assumptions behind your final response, further muddying the water.)

Hey – are you really Sarwari in disguise? (I thought that you were smarter than that.)

[“BTW what do you consider a ``natural expression of big heartedness`` from the other side these days? That they haven`t burnt down your house in the past 5 years and that you are not one of 17000 Gujrati Muslim TADA detainees?”]

Actually, my preferred expression of big-heartedness from the other side (I assume you mean uss paar, because you KNOW I don’t go for your tabliban inspired midieval division of the world by religion) would be the cessation of honour killings, closely followed by equality for Ahmediyas with other Pakistanis (heck, equality for Pakistanis of all religions) and also (I know, I know, it’s a lot but you DID ask) a halt to the current violence against Shias being in Karachi.

Btw, I think you should eat more fish. And invest in a dictionary and a thesaurus. Unfortunately you can’t buy original ideas, but the fish should help with that in the long run.

Best wishes,

Zafar

“hows anNy for a paranoid muslim like me zafarsaaab?”

Qurratulain Begum (or Bay-gham, since you are so relentlessly cheerful),

Your parents named you Qurratulain with such love….don’t you think that you should be proud of that name and use it in your daily life?

Re: paranoia – why ask me when there are so many other people on chowk who seem to specialise in this quality?

Best wishes

“Arrey, yeh to BJP waley kee tarah bolta hai. I didn`t know BJP had a following among Pakistani

Muslims ;)”

Some things become clear. Aaaj ke rediff se:

BJP activists on the rampage at the Taj

By Deepshikha Ghosh in Agra

Hours after Union Home Minister L K Advani admonished activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party`s youth wing for their aggressive display of loyalty on Saturday, the young men stunned and shocked people at the Taj Mahal with their shameful conduct…Thousands of youth activists went berserk at the 17th-century monument of love in Agra, teasing women, urinating publicly, plucking flowers and rinsing their mouths in fountains, as officials watched helplessly…The trouble began when some BJP workers went to visit the Taj, which opened to visitors free of charge for three days beginning Friday to commemorate the Urs of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan…Once there, they urinated all over the lawns, heckled visitors, plucked flowers, uprooted plants, ravaged the ancient fountains and launched a free-for-all, violating the placid environs that had been recently done up for the India-Pakistan summit in July…The activists picked on foreign women in course of their teasing spree, much to the disgust of the victims…Honeymooners also fell victim to the unruly workers and their lewd comments and heckling…By the time the rampage was over, the Taj and its surroundings resembled one vast garbage heap.

(I read through the entire text twice, but was unable to find any reference to parathas, muli de or otherwise…)

anNy,

Yes ma`am! Jaisa aap kahein :)

ali1,

I did get upset because I thought you were rude to Jawahara without her provoking you in any manner. Still, I was too harsh. My apologies to you. We, I above all, need to learn to be tolerant of one another.

Best.

Re: Stuka

``I would agree with you but there has to be a distinction between initiation and retaliation. Both cannot be put on the same moral page. I f Person A initiates an insult, he/she should expect full and complete retaliation, and not necessarily in proportion to the original insult. Once you begon a fight, cyber or otherwise, then everything is forfiet. There are no holy cows.``

Been saying that for a while now...but who cares...it`s just a damn message board...no real people here.
